Wander, Wonder, Wilderness is an interactive documentary project that explores the urban wilds and parks of Greater Boston. It celebrates the importance of nature-based experiences in an increasingly technological world.
Its multi-platform approach includes a long form essay film, smartphone application, and interactive website. One part history lesson, one part ecological perspective, and one part poetic rumination, the essay film chronicles a range of ideas around landscape, evolving notions of wilderness, and personal meditations on the environment. The mobile app and website will allow participants to visit green spaces and capture their own experiences in the form of picture, sound, and text.
It is clear that technology tends to pull us away from nature, but it also provides a creative opportunity. Wander, Wonder, Wilderness empowers users to crowd source diverse nature-inspired content, catalyzing a collective dialogue around the significance of green spaces in an urban environment.
The project team has been hard at work on a general user version of the mobile app which will be available in a limited pilot release this fall. We are also developing an educational version that can be used by high school and college students as a location based learning tool, providing users with information about the natural sites they are visiting, educational activities, and creative tools to document their experiences and thoughts.
Though the film is complete, we need your help in order to fully complete the mobile app and website, and enable the project to reach its full potential.
The funds from this campaign will be used to conduct comprehensive user testing for developing refinements to the app and to expand the website to include interactive maps, timelines and data visualizations of our users' experiences. Building on this foundation, these crucial funds will also go towards the development of the educational version of the mobile and online experience, encouraging high school and college students across the region to get outside into the dynamic classroom of nature.
These are some of the important costs you can help us cover:
·Website developer for interactive galleries of user content - $2,000
·Mobile app refinements for full version release - $4,000
·Purchase of mobile technology for classroom use of the app - $2,000
·Educational workshops for regional schools - $2,000 ($250 creates the opportunity to do comprehensive presentations with a location based learning exercise for two classes at a local high school)
Any amount you give will help towards reaching our goal.

Risks and challenges
We could have setbacks related to building the final version of the app and any other technology-related delays. In addition, there is a potential that we encounter obstacles with school boards and curriculum regulations while trying to integrate the project into schools.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
