It is the dawn of September 1939, and the dark clouds of war hover over the globe. China and Japan have already been at war for more than 2 years and now a Continental war is about to become a worldwide war, a World in Flames.
You, as leader of your nation, must guide your country through its darkest days, enhancing your economy, working with allies, building the units you need and then employing them effectively to defeat your manifold foes.
You are in charge of your country from 1939 until 1945 or until you conquer or fall. How you use your assets is up to you. Militia and garrisons
are cheap but not so great on offence. Armour and Mech units
can blitz through clear terrain, while artillery and anti-tank weapons
can help assault the enemy or support your own flawless defence.
Aircraft can be used to dominate the skies, help your attacks, disrupt your opponents and impede their assaults,
while ships can shore bombard, interdict your enemy;s sea lanes, your aircraft carriers can fly air support or sink the enemy's fleet, and your supply vessels can provide vital sustenance to your forces while they hold Dunkirk or spring forward from Normandy.
But what you build is up to you. Your production is based on all the factories and resources at your disposal (which of course fluctuates during the war as you seize or lose key industrial assets),
but if you want to concentrate on ships, land units or aircraft and what type within those categories (e.g. fighters, land bombers, naval bombers or air transports) is entirely up to you.
Each country has its own special abilities and capabilities based on your country's skills aptitude and leadership. And of course there is the all important field of diplomacy where how you negotiate the minefield of international relations can be the difference between victory and defeat.
Only one player can win, but you have to be on the winning side to be that player. So you want to help your allies JUST enough so your side wins but not so much that it is not you that gains all the glory you clearly deserve. Give my chums all support short of help is my war-winning strategy.
World in Flames shows the entire world and will be the world's biggest boardgame. That's right, for the first time ever all maps and displays will be hard-mounted boards with bound edges.
Furthermore all the counters are now die-cut not knife cut so no more flash and no more wrestling with the cardboard stem before it gives up its precious offspring counters.
The game is sumptuous, with some of the most beautiful counters ever printed.
Each one lovingly hand-crafted and individually assessed and valued. The overall look of the game and counters is a work of art.
Here are some examples of classic game situations in World in Flames.
As to the quality of the units, they speak for themselves.
In 35 years of business this is by far the most lavish production we have ever staged. It is so far down the rabbit hole no other game will ever dare to follow.
They say (well Stephen Fry to be precise) that if everyone on the planet from the beginning of time 13.7 billion years ago shuffled and dealt a pack of cards until the end of time, no two decks will play out the same.
Well multiply that by a gazillion for World in Flames. Infinite universes could play out an infinite number of times and we would be still waiting for an imitation to show up. So I wouldn't wait until your next life to give it a go.

Note that all the components of the World in Flames Superdeluxe games set apart from the World in Flames Deluxe game itself are current games, expansions, maps and magazines (they will be shipped from the USA but check our FAQ for Euro friendly delivery options).
Note however that America in Flames and Patton in Flames sold after release of the World in Flames Collector's edition game will be shipped with the rules and charts from that game. The Collector edition rules incorporate the rules for all 4 games in the World in Flames Superdeluxe games set. Furthermore Patton in Flames even though it comes with a paper map, can now be played on your hard-mounted World in Flames map which is fully compatible with Days of Decision and Patton in Flames having pre-war, wartime and post war boundaries and countries (e.g. Vietnam, Pakistan and Israel) included.
Finally all the World in Flames Collector edition kits that come with your World in Flame Deluxe game are also fully compatible now with America in Flames, Patton in Flames and Days of Decision. Although you will still have to play America in Flames on a paper map,, and use its standard land and aircraft (knife-cut) counters, all the AiF ships are replaced by their Collector's edition Ships in Flames equivalent, and the other Deluxe counters added to the force pools. At last we can play America in Flames and Patton in Flames Deluxe.
(Note: we could always play Days of Decision Deluxe as it has always been designed to be played using the current edition World in Flames maps and counters, but now we can play DoD Collector's edition Deluxe)!
As a special offer to all advance order customers (both ks and ADG's site) if you pledge/buy any of the above Collector edition games and want to top up with the other World in Flames expansions compatible with the Collector's edition, the:

AU$50k All systems go!
We have a number of stretch targets in mind should we exceed our funding targets. Please note that all stretch target items would become available for purchase separately.
Australian$100k Hard mounted Scandinavian map
Aus$200k Hard mounted African map
Aus$300k Hard mounted America maps
AUs$500K Print Days of Decision IV with individual cards, hard mounted maps and updated counters and rules.
Note that all these stretch goals will be produced after the release of World in Flames the Collector's edition, not at the same time. It is simply not humanly possible considering the tight timelines we are under to print the Collector's edition.
For benefits that you will gain when we reach each of these stretch goals please go to the FAQ where I have organised all the benefits of the ks campaign.
Printing the America in Flames counters and Patton in Flames counters to Collector's edition standard (die cut) has been removed as a stretch goal because we are planning to do that now anyway (see First class immortal update).
Risks and challenges
32 years ago we brought out a 1000 counter, 2 map game called World in Flames that went on to become an international multi-award winning game and smash hit.
60,000 games (and over 200,000 of all the games, kits, magazines and T-shirts in WiF world) later and here we are with the definitive World War II gaming series.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
