Remaining Rewards !

Dear RICKY on LEACOCK Kickstarter supporters, fans and friends,

Hard to believe that it’s been exactly one year since, thanks to you, our Kickstarter campaign was a resounding success! Most importantly, we want to thank you all for your patience. I know you’ve heard news of the film’s journey in this last year and we’re very pleased to announce that we are soon able to send out the remaining rewards!

After fees and taxes, with the money raised on Kickstarter we were able to pay in-part for the final 4K film transfers on the fabulous Kinetta Archive Scanner and beautiful color-grading by Jean-Marc Dufour at AS’Image in Paris as well as the sound design by Michael McMenomy and the mix by Matt Gundy at Carmen Borgia’s great sound department at DuArt in New York.

In August, when the film was selected by the IDA for DocuWeeks Frédéric Gaffigne and Alexandre Moniot at AS’Image stepped in again and, working day and night on a very short deadline, produced the DPC required by the Academy. Although our film wasn’t short-listed for the Oscars, the screenings in New York and Los Angeles pleased many spectators and garnered great reviews in Variety and the Los Angeles Times and the wonderful Basil Tsiokos.

Festival screenings at IT’S ALL TRUE in Brazil, BIOGRAFILM in Bologna, Italy and DOCFEST in Kassel, Germany were all fantastically rewarding as well as the USA screenings in MILL VALLEY, SYRACUSE and STARZ-DENVER.

Having started the shooting there in 1972, we’re all looking forward to the ‘homecoming’ for RICKY on LEACOCK in Cambridge, Massachusetts as part of The DocYard at the Brattle Theater on Monday, 8 April 2013. We’ve suggested that they also screen the short, LE TROU DAN LA MER that was commissioned by ARTE in 1993 to be part of a 4-hour thematic evening that Christoph Jörg and I put together to celebrate the opening of the Chunnel between the UK and France. This film, never before screened in the USA, is part of the DER collection of Leacock-Lalonde’s work during The Paris Years (1989-2009).

Continuing his legacy, this coming June the 2013 edition of BIOGRAFILM Festival in Bologna will give a special Richard Leacock Award. It’s a truly wonderful festival and I encourage all of you working in Direct Cinema to check it out.

So, slowly but surely it’s getting out there. We still are not in distribution because we still need to raise financing to cover licensing of the many clips, but we’re working on it. In the meantime, you’ll soon be the proud owners of the your very own Kickstarter ‘personal copy’.

Thanks to the support of AS’Image, Sebastián Eyherabide and Brian Newman we are finally able to announce that those of you who requested a digital download of RICKY on LEACOCK will be able to do so starting mid-January 2013. The DVDs and Posters will be ready for shipping after 25 January. And, we hope to have the digital downloads/DVDs of LA CAMERA PASSE-PARTOUT ready by mid- February. Please be on the lookout for Kickstarter messages coming soon.

Again, I want to thank you all for your incredible support. Without you it would not have been possible.

Wishing you all a healthful and happy New Year!
