WE HAVE REACHED STRETCH GOAL #3!!
I am humbled and awed by everyone's generosity. I simply cannot thank everyone enough.
As a reminder, you must have pledged $20 or more (The Nothing But Books Package and above) to receive the print copy. You must have pledged $5.00 or more to receive the pdf of Chapter 4.
Here is a teaser panel from Chapter 4:
Keep spreading word! We're not done yet. :)
You are the most amazing backers ever! Not only have we reached our initial goal, but we've reached STRETCH GOALS 1 AND 2! I can't thank you enough for your support!!
STRETCH GOAL #3 IS A BIG ONE!! PRINTING CHAPTER 4!
OUR NEXT GOAL: $5,400 - REACHED!
This will be a 24-page issue which includes all of chapter four plus 2 pages of extras. This stretch goal is available to anyone who has pledged $20 or more including the Nothing But Books Package AND EVERYONE who pledges $5.00 or more receives a pdf of Chapter 4. Emily is currently working on chapter four so the earliest it will be available is in May.
I know this is a big goal, but this issue will be mailed separately from the third chapter so we had to add a little more to cover the extra postage. If we make this goal and you are willing to wait until May to receive all of your mailed rewards (other books, stickers, bookmark including Chapter 4) please let us know and you will save us a little money and have our undying gratitude. (Posters and lockets will be mailed as scheduled.) Any money saved will go directly to production of Chapters 5 and 6. If we do not hear from you, we will assume you want it separately.
BOSTON METAPHYSICAL SOCIETY needs your help to print the third and fourth chapter in our six issue mini-series. The third chapter is 28 pages and the fourth chapter is 24 pages.
Cover of Issue 3
The year is 1895...An evil from a parallel dimension escaped and now roams the city of Boston.
Faced with a new century and new steam technology, the social and political status quo is turned on its head. People are uncomfortable with change and, in fact, many people fear it. That fear and the violence which follows causes a psychic rift to puncture the veil of space and time allowing the entity known as "The Shifter" to escape. Feeding on the resentment and fear between the rich and poor, “The Shifter” triggers a rash of murders.
Four of the greatest minds of the time have banded together to try and stop this malevolent entity. Known only as B.E.T.H., they are:
THEY FAIL. Against their better judgment, they look to a man driven by revenge – SAMUEL HUNTER.
For the one mistake The Shifter made was killing Samuel’s wife. An ex-Pinkerton detective, Samuel gathers his unlikely team of… Caitlin O'Sullivan, Medium and Spirit Photographer
and Granville Woods, Scientist Extraordinaire.
They are the Boston Metaphysical Society.
Their job: Stop The Shifter before Boston tears itself apart.
COVER ART ISSUE 1
COVER ART ISSUE 2
BOSTON METAPHYSICAL SOCIETY is written by Madeleine Holly-Rosing and drawn by Emily Hu.
The third chapter is ready to go to the printer, so there will be no huge lag time before you receive the book. Also, the 4th Chapter has been sent off to Emily for her to start on. So we are moving forward!
Where the money goes: Your backing would enable us to print enough copies of chapter three to send off to backers with some leftover to sell at conventions along with incentives, shipping (which includes mailing envelopes/tubes, postage and handling.) And, of course, the Amazon fees (5% off the top, plus credit card fees.) The third chapter will be 28 pages long which includes chapter three plus six pages of extras.
Our incentives not only include the pdf and print version of Chapter 3, but also B.E.T.H. bookmarks, short stories, A BRAND NEW BMS NOVELLA, posters, a BMS Owl Lapel Pin, and fan art in the pdf version which (depending on the package you pick) will include fan art from LUNARBABOON,
and many others.
OWL LAPEL PIN (Die Cast Antique Brass - 1 inch in diameter) The pin was designed by my dear friend, Bill Meahan! A retired engineer, he is now an ardent fan of the comic and a huge help to me. Thank you, Bill!

SEE WHAT OTHER PEOPLE SAY ABOUT BOSTON METAPHYSICAL SOCIETY:
"With over "cough, cough" years in the comic business as a writer, editor, artist and a publisher, I’ve worked with many new and established talented writers and artists. Madeleine Holly-Rosing and Emily Hu are the real deal. It’s hard to believe that BOSTON METAPHYSICAL SOCIETY is their first comic book series. With its spot on writing and elegant illustrations it's got something that crosses over genres and refuses to be pigeon-holed. We'll see more of this dynamic duo. Back this Kickstarter with me and you'll be able to boast you knew them when as well." – Dave Elliott, A1/Atomeka Press
"As a huge fan of steampunk, I was very happy to be introduced to the webcomic BOSTON METAPHYSICAL SOCIETY. Ms. Holly-Rosing nails the tone with her expert writing and her artist, Ms. Hu, is a wonder. I definitely want to see how this story ends and will be backing this Kickstarter. (As you should too.)" - Bryn Pryor (Writer/Director, Cowboys and Engines)
“Boston Metaphysical took the scientific and engineering greats of the Victorian era and mixed them with ghost hunters. It’s history and mystery blended into a fascinating story that can't be put down!" - Travis Sivart (Host of Sounds of Steam, a Steampunk radio show)
“Boston Metaphysical is one of my favorite webcomics not just because I'm a sucker for any comics that feature Harry Houdini in lead roles (though I am) or because I love comics that use ghosts in different ways than most strips do (though I am). No, Boston Metaphysical is one of my favorite webcomics because Madeleine Holly-Rosing creates a wonderful fictional world with bold characters and thoroughly entertaining plots. And because of Houdini and the ghosts. I like ghosts.”-Jason Sacks, Publisher, Comics Bulletin www.comicsbulletin.com
"The Boston Metaphysical Society has more diversity in a story set over 100 years ago in Boston then most modern day stories in New York City do, that alone should let you know this series is different in a great way. If the idea of Tesla, monsters made of magnets, or spirit photographers intrigue you, you should be supporting this series." - Dr. Alexander Bustos, Comic Attack

STRETCH GOAL #4: $5,950
It has been such a tight race between Caitlin and Tesla for the pencil/ink portrait poster, we decided Emily will draw whoever takes second place. This will be a 8.5 x 11 portrait on 10 pt. card stock glossy.
STRETCH GOALS #5: LOCKED
Risks and challenges
We learned a lot from our last Kickstarter so my husband and I decided that we would fund the art production for the rest of the issues in the six issue mini-series and use Kickstarter as a way for backers to pre-order each issue as they become available. That way we can scale back the goal substantially and have a far greater chance of achieving it.
Since I have managed three successful print runs of the comic ( 1st Chapter Special Edition; 1st chapter - 24 page edition and 2nd chapter - 24 page edition) and I have been handling fulfillment through my own website store for over a year, I do not anticipate any problems. However, if there are any production delays or hiccups with the printer, you'll be the first to know.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
