With the successful publication of the first book, Life of the Party: Realities of an RPG'er and it's successor Life of the Party: Roll for Initiative has continued to grow in scope and popularity-- Currently showcasing over 700 individual strips online. I love to game and I love cartooning and it turns out that this makes the perfect combination.
The great thing about a daily webcomic is the abundant supply of new material, and I now have enough cartoons to produce a third volume in the LotP series. Let the campaign begin!
I believe that Kickstarters need to be fun, clean and unpredictable, and that's why I turned ours into a game. The more levels we unlock, the more monsters we defeat, the better the goodies that the adventurers can bring home.
This time the monsters want their due...
WE HIT THE GOAL!!!!! NOW ONTO THE DUNGEON!
Life of the Party: Into the Dungeons will begin as a 90-page softcover book, with a UV spot (this means there is a glossy overlay on the cover to accent the art). The basic book will feature comic pages that have already been posted online (including the cameo cartoons from the last Kickstarter), plus all sorts of extra goodies. Once we hit a goal and begin to "Level Up!" I will look at upgrading the cover as well as the page count. The more pages, the merrier, in my opinion.
To print 2,000 books and to ship a huge portion of them, my blacksmith and gnomes will need about 7,000 gold pieces (but they also take US dollars). This amount will cover production costs, shipping and packaging (which I know, from experience, are significant expenses), Kickstarter fees, and any surprise costs that rear their ugly heads.
Here are a few of the comics that will be in the book:
And the cool thing is … The book is ready to go to print NOW!
Here's where we are....
The Character Sheet will help you know at a glance the campaign’s current level, what goals we’ve unlocked, and what new stretch goals have become available.
What's adding on?
Leveling up...The Keep
Grab your armor, favorite weapon, spell books, and healing potions, and join in our quest to Level Up! Each stretch goal opens a new level for Life of the Party, and each one of those levels is guarded by a fierce monster. On the plus side, as we all know: Where there's a monster, there's always loot!
When we reach the stretch goal, we triumph over the monster, claim its treasure, and progress to the next level that appears beneath it. You can track our progress with our LotP Character Sheet. It details our current level and the rewards that have become available, all at a quick glance.
The goal has been hit and now onto the dungeon...
Each level allows for the book to be upgraded and the opportunities for add-ons.

Rewards come in many different flavors--from the book itself to original, custom illustrations of varying sizes and complexity. There is even the opportunity to get some Legendary Gear
If you want to add additional copies or add another book from the Life of the Party series, just add $20 per book to your pledge!
Shipping and why we have to add international shipping....
International Shipping. Due to shipping costs rising all over the world, I need to charge extra for shipping. Currently, it costs around US$25 to ship to Australia. This is actually the norm for most international regions--between US$15 and US$30. If I offered free shipping to everyone, it would eat up all the funds necessary for production, which would make everyone sad. We do NOT want people to be sad.
Also, if you mistype your address and your merchandise is returned to me, I will ask you cover the costs to reship it to you.
Share the fun.
Honestly, it's no fun gaming by yourself. So grab some friends, dice, controllers, your incredible imagination, humor, and a love for fun, and make the experience wonderful for everyone. The bigger the party, the more fun the adventures can be. So please invite people to join in the fun!
My name is Trav, and I am an artist, gamer, and dreamer. I have been creating books and illustrations for 20 years. My body of work includes Life of the Party: Realities of an RPG'er and Roll for Initiative, Tanner Jones and the Quest for the Monkey Stone, The Bean (an Eisner-nominated webcomic series), Adventures for a Lazy Afternoon, and much more. I love Kickstarter and how it has helped me and other illustrators bring fantastic projects to life.
(A special thanks to Darne for the color flats and preproduction work and to my many friends whose advice has helped me work out the edits for this page.)
Risks and challenges
Inevitably, there are risks with every project. After 10 successful projects and one that fell short, I have learned that you can hope everything runs smoothly, but you have to be flexible and adapt when you hit a snag.
For instance, shipping can be delayed. The boat transporting the books from the printer might sink. Backers might miss the email with the Backerkit or Kickstarter Survey (this happens a lot!). The computer with all the files could explode. There are a variety of potential gremlins!
Though I cannot predict all the hiccups that could happen, I know that the most important thing I can do is communicate openly with my backers. Those who have backed my previous projects know this is true; you will find I am easy to contact.
Another issue--and one that especially dogged my previous Kickstarter--is backers answering their Backerkit Surveys with either inaccurate credit card or address information. If a reward gets shipped back to me because of a wrong address, then I have to ask the backer to help cover the shipping costs to resend it.
My goal is to make this project run as smoothly as possible. If there is a bump, which happens from time to time, I will let you know about it. I won't keep you in the dark. My goal is to run my projects cleanly, smoothly, and transparently.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
