Growing up I have had a love for the game: the thrill of creating characters, the unpredictability of rolling dice, and the hours dedicated to campaigning and rpg'ing. Many of those adventures turned into stories for my books and artwork. Many of those encounters were also rather funny.
I decided that I needed to combine my memories, my humor and my art, and draw a simple cartoon just for me. Little did I realize that this "simple" cartoon about my love of fantasy, gaming and friendship would grow so quickly into a daily strip. I also found that my experiences were far more universal than I could have hoped. Life of the Party has given me the chance to bond with an incredible, extended family of gamers - pen-and-paper and digital - who have all felt the intense of pain of rolling a 1.
Now after several months of creating this wild, offbeat adventure, I am humbled by the consistent demand for a book. I have decided to bundle all of the existing strips, along with the many more I am currently creating, and put them into a single, beautiful volume. So grab your dice, your character sheets, and your friends. It's time to be the Life of the Party.
WE HIT THE GOAL!
Life of the Party: The Realities of a RPG'er will start as a 90 page soft cover book, with a uv spot cover (this means there is a gloss overlay on the cover to help it stand out and make it really nice). The basic book will feature the comic pages that have already been posted online, plus all sorts of extra little goodies. Once we hit the goal and begin to "Level Up!" I will look at upgrading the cover as well as the page count. The more pages the merrier, in my opinion.
To print 2000 books and ship a huge portion of them out, my blacksmith and gnomes will need about 7000 gp. This will cover production costs, shipping and packaging (which I know, from experience, is a significant expense), kickstarter fees, and any surprise costs which decide to show up.
Leveling Up: The Stretch Goals
Grab your armor and favorite weapon, and join in our quest to level up. Each stretch goal opens a new level for Life of the Party, and each one of those levels is guarded by a fierce monster; but where there's a monster there's loot! When we reach the stretch goal - we triumph over the monster, claim their treasure, and then progress on to the new level that appears beneath us. You can track our progress with our LOTP Character sheet. It tells you what level we are and what rewards have become available at a very quick glance.
Quick Reference Character Sheet -
Here is where we are at.
also if the lower tiers want the pdf- its a $20 add on- All you have to do is just adjust your pledge and when the survey comes out you will be able to select it.
Into The Dungeon - 13 levels defeated...
The dungeon has been vanquished, now it's time to return to the tavern for mead and stories. Where we will distribute treasure and plan our next adventure.... but be careful the road back might still be filled with danger.. with time running out - now is the time to set up add-ons.
If you have missed some of the comics, you can read the entire archive here at http://lotprpg.weebly.com/ Here are a couple to enjoy as you scroll through my Kickstarter quest.
While the campaign is progressing, there will be a webcomic update here on every day (except Sunday, I need a rest) for everyone to enjoy as well.
Rewards come in many different flavors, from the book itself to original, custom illustrations of different sizes and complexity. There is even the granddaddy of all rewards which will get you, along with plenty of other awesome loot, the art for the book cover.
If you want to add additional books just add $20 per book to your pledge-
Everybody needs to paper for notes during a campaign... especially when you are trying to remember everything that is discussed during a session. This is your Life in the Party Adventure Log. Perfect to document all the crazy wild NPC's you meet, what loot belongs to you, quests that specific to you and most importantly where things are. There will be four unique Log Sheets ... and as we open up more Stretch goals... I have heard rumors that there may be more.
Shipping and why we have to add international shipping....
International Shipping. Due to shipping costs rising all over the world for us, we have to charge extra for shipping. Currently, it costs around $25 USD to ship to Australia. This is actually the norm for most areas - between $15 and $25. If we offered free shipping, it would eat up all the money that will be used for production, and that would make everybody sad. We do NOT want people to be sad.
If I could get Amazon rates, I would be more than willing to cover the costs of shipping, but I am just a one-man shop. As a result, I don’t have access to bulk shipping rates or distribution centers. I am sorry that this creates more of a challenge for my international backers, but - as many of you know - I add all sorts of goodies with my Kickstarters to try and make it worth your while Plus I have a pdf version as well. Thank you to those outside the US who still support these projects. I am grateful. Keep creating.
I think we could use a couple of more pages to look at....
Every day while the campaign is running I will update a new page here on the updates in kickstarter.
Share the fun.
Honestly, it's no fun gaming by yourself. So grab some friends, dice, controllers, your incredible imagination, humor and a love for fun and make the experience wonderful for everyone. The bigger the party the more fun the adventures can be. So please and invite people to join the fun.
My names Trav- and I am an artist, gamer and dreamer. I have been creating books and illustrations for 20 years. Past books and current series that I am working on are Tanner Jones and the Quest for the Monkey Stone, The Bean (an Eisner nominated webcomic series), Adventures for a Lazy Afternoon and many more. I love Kickstarter and how it has been able to help me and other illustrators create some fantastic projects. A special thanks to Darne for the flats, and all the advice from so many friends who have helped me work out the game kinks, and edits for this page.
Risks and challenges
There are always risks with every project. After 7 successful projects and one that failed, I have come to realize that as you can hope everything to run smoothly, but that is not always the case. Sometimes, things just happen.
For instance, shipping can be delayed. The boat could sink. You could miss the e-mail with the survey from Backerkit or Kickstarter (this happens a lot). The computer with all the files could explode... a variety of reasons.
Though I cannot predict all the things that could happen, I know that the most important thing is to keep communication open with my backers. Those who have backed my previous projects know this to be true, you will find I am easy to contact.
My goal is to make this project run as smoothly as possible. If there is a bump, which happens from time to time, I will let you know about it. I won't keep you in the dark. My goal is to run my projects clean, smoothly and very open. Thank you for your support.
