Who are we and why Kickstarter??
I’m Trevor Charles, creator of SBL. By day, I’m an 11th grade English teacher at a NYC public school. By night, I’m a comic aficionado and aspiring graphic novelist. Actually, that night stuff kind of blends into the day sometimes. I assigned V for Vendetta as required reading for my class. I’ve read and loved all the classics, and now I want to make my own contribution to the comic world and those who love it. I’m bringing my story to Kickstarter because I know the audience is receptive to new talent and creativity in whatever form it takes. I’ve felt how special it is to personally contribute to making someone else’s dream come true. Check out my Kickstarter comic library...
Yea I know, total comic geek.
How did it all start?
Sea Breeze Lane started as a short story. It was published while I was a junior at SJU, in Sequoia, the school’s literary magazine. This was an incredible personal accomplishment for me. All my writer friends told me they could see the story as a comic or even animated on screen. They encouraged me to go further with the story. I did. And that’s why I’m here now.
We get by with a little help from our friends...
I sent my story to Salomon Farias, an amazing artist from Chile. He was passionate enough about it to come on board, and help me turn SBL into a graphic novel. Our colorist is David Aravena, whose work can be seen in IDW’s Transformers. Our creative team is rounded out by my brilliant designer Frank Luera and my lovely editor Erin Teresky.
What's it about?
It is several hundred years in the future and humanity lives on the moon, in domed Earth-like cities. David Bell is a Skyborn, one of his society’s elite and their next leader. David grew up on fairy tales, like any other child. Except, his bedtime stories about strange and distant lands may actually be much more than simple fantasy. Outside of the domes, on the Moon’s harsh atmosphere, nothing like the one we know today, reside the antagonistic Dusters; this group believes they are descended from the original lunar settlers. David has started to question the secrecy of his society and doubts the dogma preached by its past leaders. He is determined to know the truth and is willing to risk his life to find it. David’s journey to uncover meaning could lead his world to a brighter future or completely destroy it...
To infinity and beyond...
This campaign is to finance production of the hardcover graphic novel and make the SBL story known. The reward system is designed so everyone gets something. It costs approximately $2,000 to produce one issue of the comic. Multiplied by 5, and that’s $10,000 (I’m an English teacher, not math. But don’t worry- I used a calculator). The sooner we can reach our goal, the sooner everyone can enjoy the fruits of our labor.
