About

Update #1: We're so afraid our campaign won't be successful that nightmares torture us non-stop. To get over them, we converted our fears into cartoons:

Update #2: The sequel of Colin's crowdfunding story. In this episode you will see how much effort it takes to make a professional and high quality Kickstarter campaign.

Update #3:  An unexpected turn of Colin's Kickstarter campaign. In this episode something mysterious happens... Watch what crowdfunding can lead to!

When you enter the game for the first time, you get a chunk of space, where you can do pretty much whatever you want, by following the simple laws of the market, simple laws of physics and simple moral values. The area you get includes a star, three planets, a couple of hundreds of asteroids and an urge to investigate, transport goods and build capital.

Watch this video to see how to play

"...for f**ks sake, another f**king money-grabbing Kickstarter wannabe. Holy f**king shit, these people don't ever f**king give up. I don't give a flying f**k about your f**king Kickstarter!" - James Gamble, agameaweek.com

Your goal is to transport resources and manufacture products, then sell them to an outer space market. By doing so, you gain money and your growing wealth and prosperity allow you to ignite and support technological progress, which brings you inventions and devices to exploit all available resources and technologies around.

Your star system gets more and more complex and populated. Every time you gain another level, more and more fascinating things and adventures are unlocked, which guarantee: you never get bored in our vacuum!

You know how a table with model trains looks, it has its own charming plastic/wooden feel. Now imagine you are a rich man, you live in an enormous castle with lots of rooms, so many of them that you can dedicate each room to each of your passions: music listening, sports, a shadow theater and all the rest. One of these rooms is dedicated to a solar system model, much like the railways I described above, but dedicated to space: in the middle of this room you have a suspended sun, which in actuality is a lamp. The walls, floor and ceiling are the night sky, with distant galaxies and stars. You also have planets, slowly evolving around the star in an ecliptic. Planets are made of different lovely materials, for example one is made of antique bronze, another one is a marble sphere, with incrustation of continents. Some are made of wood or ivory. Spaceships are suspended too, and you send them from source to destination points using remote controls, much like in toy trains, and an invisible mechanism, hidden high in the ceiling, does the job of timing and moving the spaceships.

Now take a deep breath and try to capture this feeling of the room, illumination and even smell – the same charming atmosphere model trains have, but on another, bigger scale. And this is exactly what we try to achieve, the atmosphere of small elegant old-fashioned gizmos, but by the same token with all the advantages any virtual medium has: it's playable, flexible and adjustable. On the other hand it is highly accessible: runs in any browser and utilizes the latest native Flash 3D platform – nothing is as accessible at that!

Take a look at our "Procedural Planet Generator" - it's primitive, but it's only a basic prototype of an actual generator. We publish it here only to demonstrate how easy it will be to access the game via browser (requires Flash 11)

All users and all their star systems have precise coordinates in the galaxy. The world is a single network, a single galaxy. Why only one galaxy? Because one galaxy contains 20 times more stars than the number of users in the whole Internet!

Why is everyone so obsessed with megalomania nowadays? People create games with “The Universe of This”, “The Universe of That”. No, we're nothing like this folie de grandeur. We have one modest Galaxy for now, thank you very much. With one single modest supermassive black hole in the middle.

Everything in this game has solid scientific background and accuracy. One out of every two people we know is related to space in one way or another (it's Science City, baby!). We have friends mathematicians, physicists, engineers – and all their work or investigations lie in a cosmic domain. Some of them will consult us when required.

All things, like star life stages, pulsars, black holes, nebulae or supernovas – not only will they have scientific adequacy, but they will become essential and intriguing parts of the game, too! Besides, if we achieve a specific stretch goal point, we will hire a special adviser full time, who will keep the scientific accuracy at the top level.

One of the most important features of the game is the ability to build space stations from cubes. Space stations are a kind of artificial place in space, where you are not limited to planet government restrictions and rules, the place you use for your own purposes, like intermediate material/product storage or even processing nodes, with factories and industries. No, it's not going to be the same old boring brutal cube flooding you are used to.

Here you will have to put all your engineering skills into it! Especially when it comes to the electric supply: you will have to power up all your station segments with electricity, which will be a lot of fun!

This is a draft of what it will look like. Just a draft! A proof of concept only, an actual station builder will be hundred times better than this.

This is a graphical representation of pledges and rewards. For details, see you know where.

Ok, let's face it, publishers are too serious, too careful, too grown-up for such jocose people like you and us. They are so serious, that they forget that they work with rather non-serious content, like games. I don't want to downgrade publishers, they have their good points, too, but all the risks they take just do not allow them to be playful and to look forward to new interesting ideas. Of course you are biased, when you put a huge chunk of capital on a game, you must be pretty damned serious. But you are not a publisher, and you only spend a small amount of money, which allows you not to be so serious, and hence, to be unbiased.

Tonya is an energetic source for our team: she inspires, ponders and fantasizes, draws the sketches and models 3D objects. Since her early childhood she was charmed by outer space, spent a lot of time dreaming about rockets, planets and stars, read tons of sci-fi books by Azimov, Bradbury and other great authors.

Shalmu is a software developer and screenplay writer. He started to write programs when he was 9, later he was involved in the development of secret Russian space-dog monitoring software, where he learned how to launch spaceships by writing and compiling C++ code. Shalmu still dreams to become a cosmonaut, while most children leave this dream behind along with beliefs in Santa Claus and The Tooth fairy.

As we said in the video, two developers and two 3D artists are the minimal number of people we need to deliver the high quality game we envision. We also need funds to rent and maintain a reliable server system to keep the galaxy accessible anytime, anywhere. More funds mean more talented and dedicated developers will be involved. It means a more polished and advanced game, more “inventions”, ships and industries, more splendid details and thrilling space adventures we'll devise for you! Of course there must be some small unexpected expenses during and after the development of the game, but it's included in our basic goal as well as everything else.

This is the game we always wanted to play: meditative, with its unique mood, entertaining at every stage, as well as creative, accessible and connected. This game is for enthusiasts, dreamers, brave and kind people, who are not afraid to look forward to escaping the boundaries of our mother planet. The game? Not for long! Very soon it shall become reality and we are proud to be a part of this, even though it's a game, it's virtual yet, nevertheless we must face the fact that all the sci-fi literature and movies are virtual too, but they inspire humanity to make yet another step forward to conquer the outer space, don't they? Do you want to become a part of something really big? Then this is your chance.

Yes indeed! We take humor very seriously. We are going to make fun of every single thing throughout the game development (including you, mister Backer!), and the game itself is going to be full of joy. Although the joy of the game development process will be available only for our backers.

Risks and challenges

Here are some of the risks we may encounter during the game development. Please keep in mind that they’re just a couple of the many of problems we take into account, but we don't list them here, because they are too dull for you to read (too much math!).

• The possibility of hiring the wrong people. The history of software development teaches an important lesson: good employees lead to a company’s success as well as the opposite – irresponsible illiterate workers throw the best companies down the well of bankruptcy. Of course we will be as careful about it as possible, by looking for not just talented and experienced professionals, who care about their reputation, but those who are genuinely passionate about the game. Besides, our goal includes 10% reserve, hence in case of such a problem we detect the mistake early on and eliminate it.

• Inability to meet the deadline – well, as a result of laziness, it may take place, but industrious people might be late too, if they don't use a distinct software development method. We do! We are fans of Scrum.

• Sometimes developers simply overestimate their skills, talents and possibilities. It happens to very experienced people too. The main thing for us here is to think clearly and be aware of such risks.

• There can be a factor of a single person, who isolates himself for a long time, takes too much responsibility and ultimately becomes unable to evaluate the situation correctly and wisely. But it won't happen in our case, because our backers won't allow us to go the wrong way, for the game development process itself is going to be transparent to all our backers. Each backer will have private access to the closed section of our website, where he will see everything that is going on, all updates, videos, articles and game progress will be published there immediately.
