Update #3: Only 10 Days Left!
We've surpassed the second Stretch Goal of $16,000 and a couple of you said to me "Let's set the next stretch goal at $20,000!" I'm game if you are! It means spreading the word to all your knitting friends. The more pledges are received, the more patterns, ebooks, and classes I will be able to develop to continue teaching the traditional techniques I so dearly love.
I hope that everyone will find this DVD on stranded color knitting to be unique. It will illustrate techniques I have not seen written or described anywhere. Even as it is being edited, I am still thinking how I can make it better. My production team and I decided to shoot a bit more footage to better illustrate knitting with four yarns in a round on the right side and the wrong side. I hope this won't delay the completion of the DVD, but it will certainly make the content comprehensive.
Just a reminder, if you would like to pledge twice, email me for your second pledge (Beth at KnittingTraditions dot com), as Kickstarter will delete your first pledge. They only let you pledge once.
At this point I am ordering the boxes and bags for shipping, and the gift tags and plastic bags for the yarn kits. The note cards just arrived, so I'll be folding them and putting them in their glassine envelopes this week.
So I am busy getting ready to send all this out to you with HUGE THANKS!
STRETCH GOAL: $16,000
My Kickstarter project continues to grow and I am amazed and gratified! Thank you all for your heroic show of support for my work!
I am adding a pair of Swedish Twined knitted fingerless mitts for a reward. Another reward offers 10 more Gansey Sock kits in green (and one in red).
I communicated some misinformation in my last Update. If you have already pledged, you cannot pledge again under the same name without deleting your original pledge. Some of you have expressed interest in more than one yarn kit. In that case, you can email me and let me know what it is you want and we can complete the transaction by check or Paypal.
My new STRETCH GOAL is $16,000. This will enable me to purchase needed photographs for both my patterns and for some eBooks I am working on. Please consider continuing to spread the word about my Kickstarter project. I am thrilled with how much money has been raised by a little over 200 backers. But when you consider the thousands of knitters in the US alone, there are more people who don't know about the project! This project ends October 22. Thanks for all you do!
STRETCH GOAL: $12,000
Wow, everyone! Thank you all for your wonderful support! Now that the minimum goal has been reached, a new bar has been set to more realistically fund the project. All that yarn and shipping for the rewards must come out of the goal money:
Please keep spreading the word so more knitters will hear about the project. That is what makes the difference! I am so grateful for all the help many of you are giving to make this happen!
I'd like to add four more yarn kits as that seems to be the popular choice, after the new DVD itself: Toasty (the photo is below), Spring Latvian Mitts, Latvian Mittens, and Morning Glory Mittens (that can be stranded or twined). Here they are...
Spring Latvian Mitts kit
Many thanks to WEBS-America's Yarn Store for donating some of the yarn to help keep my costs down!
I've been teaching knitting for more than 25 years across North America and parts of Europe. My particular area of interest is in traditional knitting techniques, and throughout my career I have worked towards keeping these historic knitting traditions alive. Some people are unable to attend knitting conferences or don't have yarn shops in their area where they can enhance their knitting knowledge. DVDs are the perfect way to learn knitting techniques.
My first DVD, Knitting Ganseys with Beth Brown-Reinsel, has been well received, as has my book Knitting Ganseys, still in publication after 20 years! My new DVD, Techniques for Color Stranded Knitting, has been waiting on the shelf for two years to go through the final production process.
Post-production consists of editing, authoring the DVD, color correcting, audio mixing, purchasing music and art for the cover, testing the DVD, purchasing the covers, manufacturing the DVDs, and more. These steps all cost money.
I am asking for the minimum amount needed to get this project to completion. If funds exceed my goal, they will be applied to shipping costs and packaging, new photography with live models for my patterns, and much more.
I have gathered together many rewards for you to choose from as a thank you for donating! If I don't reach my goal of $8500, I will receive no money and the DVD will go back on a dusty shelf. My students will be disappointed!
In order to spread the knowledge of these techniques, I need your help to help make this DVD a reality. I hope you'll be a part of my dream. Thanks so much!
I am excited about offering rewards! Several options include my knitting patterns, which are available on other sites, but purchased here will help me toward my goal.
I am also offering yarn kits of certain designs of mine: Latvian Fingerless Mitts, Fair Isle Bag, Gansey Socks, and Nordic Mittens.
In addition to being a knitter, I am also a basket maker and will make a 12 1/2" x 13" Williamsburg basket, perfect for your knitting projects. This is limited to five donors.
Among the offerings are a pair of woman's medium hand-knitted socks from my design Gansey Socks. They are made from Frangipani Guernsey yarn and will wear very well.
For those of you who would like to gather with friends while learning to knit a gansey, I'm offering the opportunity to take part in a Knit-Along (KAL) based on my design The Big Easy. You will receive course materials (a syllabus and "The Big Easy" pattern booklets) and my first DVD, Knitting Ganseys With Beth Brown-Reinsel. In addition, to guide you through the process, monthly one-hour Skype sessions for a period of four months are included. This could be your finished product.
One of the biggest rewards is a pair of gloves or mittens, designed and hand-knitted especially for you. They can be of one color, Twined knitted, or two-color mittens or gloves. You decide!
Take a look at the options here. You're sure to find something to your liking! And thanks for supporting my Kickstarter campaign!
Risks and challenges
Because the DVD has already been taped, and editing and post-production work are all that remain to complete the project, the risks are minimal. However there is always a chance of unforeseen challenges, such as technical difficulties or shipping delays.
In order to capitalize on holiday sales, December is the target date of completion for the project. If there are any delays, the DVD will still be completed and will be available for purchase and shipping as soon as it is completed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
