Thank you for checking out our Kickstarter campaign. This marks the official unveiling of MORTAL TREND CLOTHING.
Our story really begins in Glasgow, Scotland, where founder Lachlan MacKenzie was born and raised. When Lachlan was 16, he and his brother, Callum, got heavily into the burgeoning Punk Rock scene.
It soon became clear that Lachie and Callum needed the right duds to wear when they went to shows. Punk Rock was as much about fashion as it was about music. But money was tight in the MacKenzie household, so Lachlan had his mother teach him to sew on her manual Singer sewing machine. He began altering his and Callum's jeans, shirts and jackets to suit the Punk aesthetic. Soon a couple of other lads in the neighborhood asked him to do the same for them. Lachlan's passion for design and style, something he'd felt since he was a boy, was being made tangible and real. He loved re-designing his friends' clothes and sewing them into new life. He loved creating a look that reflected his ethos of individuality and durability.
When it came time for college, Lachlan was given a four-year grant to study fashion design. He was the only boy in a class of 20 girls.
Then Lachlan found himself up against the harsh reality that earning a living and contributing to the family coffers would be a much riskier pursuit if he chose a creative path. In the end, practicality won out over his passion and Lachlan changed his major to engineering.
Cut to five years ago. Lachlan was finally ready to bring his dream of designing clothes back to life. He named the company MORTAL TREND. He knew that he wanted to make his clothing here in Los Angeles, not overseas, and be a part of bringing manufacturing back to the U.S. He and his wife, Lis, found a pattern-maker and a small shop to create his samples. Manufacturing and assembly partners were tested and selected. He sourced fabric and found a mill to create and dye the heavy cotton fabric required for his designs.
We know that MORTAL TREND CLOTHING can become a reality and grow into a thriving company. We're turning to you for support so we can take our next, vital steps forward.
MORTAL TREND designs focus on versatility, fit and the kind of style that doesn't need to shout to be heard. We also believe that everyone deserves to wear quality clothing made to last. We're not interested in creating disposable fashion and we're committed to bringing back American manufacturing.
Our mission at MORTAL TREND CLOTHING is to:
- Make the clothes in your closet you'll reach for first
- Create a fit and style that's perfect for work or play
- Utilize the vibrant and revitalized garment industry in Los Angeles to make quality clothing
- Provide you with indispensable building blocks for your wardrobe
- Create a company that grows, thrives and creates opportunities

Our goal is to raise $20,000. With your support, we can manufacture our first collection, send you your Premiums and have product left over to sell on our website and in brick and mortar stores.
If your support gets us to $40,000, we will also be able to create each of our six pieces in Charcoal Black.
At $60,000, we can get patterns and samples made for our next collection - a huge step!
Thanks to you, five years of hard work, faith and self-funded, slow-but-steady progress is about to pay off.
More than anything, we want you to experience our clothes. We're incredibly proud of them and the response from our friends and people in the industry has been phenomenal. The Rewards for your Pledge reflect our belief in the clothes and our desire to make you, our supporters, the first people out there to wear MORTAL TREND designs.
And here's the thing: once MORTAL TREND CLOTHING is up and running, our clothes will retail for more than the amount of your Pledge. By supporting us now, you're not only helping get a business up and running, you're getting great clothes for less than what you'll pay in stores or online in the future.
We know that everyone and their granny is launching a Kickstarter these days and you've probably supported at least a few. That's why, should you choose to support our MORTAL TREND CLOTHING campaign, we will be grateful forever and we promise to build a company that you can be proud of.
This is an incredibly exciting time in our evolution and we're honored to share it with you. And please feel free to check our Tumblr, where we've started collecting images that inspire us.
Risks and challenges
As with any project, there are risks involved. Production delays are the most common issue for clothing brands, but we've been assured by our manufacturer, who works with companies much larger than MORTAL TREND, that he can get started as soon as we've raised our funds.
We've chosen July as our deadline for delivering your clothing based on our manufacturer's estimates of production time. Should delays arise, we will alert you immediately with an adjusted delivery date. Remember: our priority is to have you experience MORTAL TREND clothing for yourself and show it off to your friends.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
