What Makes This Bag So Unique?
What Fits in the Bag?
The number of games that can fit in the Boards & Bits Traveler depends on (a) the bulk of each individual game and (b) the method in which the games are packed.
For example, for greatest space savings, we use zip-lock freezer (gallon and quart) bags for game components. For games that may have delicate components, we use plastic containers which take up more space.
We loaded the bag up with random games from our own libraries:
Pack 1: 28 games. 14 board games, 14 card games. Zip-lock bags for components.
Pack 2: 26 games. 12 board games, 14 card games. Zip-lock bags for components.
Pack 3: 20 board games. Zip-lock bags for components.
Pack 4: 16 games. 10 board games, 6 card games. Used our stretch goal PVC bags and some plastic containers for extra protection.
You can even fit entire boxes in the bag for game nights:

Key Design Features
Built to Last
The Boards & Bits Traveler is designed with sturdy "wrap around" straps. The shoulder strap and handle straps wrap all the way under the bag (as seen in the image below), strengthening the bag and allowing it to carry some hefty weights. The bag also has double stitching in critical areas.
We will ship to the United States and Canada for this initial kickstarter.
"Solo Traveler" pledge: 1 bag = $19 shipping
"Companion Travelers" pledge: 2 bags = $29 shipping
"Group Travelers" pledge: 4 bags = $49 shipping
"Solo Traveler" pledge: 1 bag = $29 shipping
"Companion Travelers" pledge: 2 bags = $49 shipping
"Group Travelers" pledge: 4 bags = $88 shipping
We will either ship out of a distributor in Canada (if we have a lot of backers) or mail directly from the U.S (if relatively few). Note that if we do ship from the U.S., we will pre-pay the customs/duties when we ship, to avoid the frustrating situation of our customers having to pay duties upon receipt. These border duties are built into the Canadian shipping price.
International shipping is a little more complicated and costly for this product than say, a board game, because of import duties on bags, and the relatively heavy weight and size of the product.
One of our goals was to introduce as little logistical risk as possible into the project, and as such we are sticking to the United States and Canada for this campaign.
We understand that there is demand from other countries, and hope to find an international distributor post-kickstarter to serve these markets.
Please visit meeplelab.com and sign up for our mailing list if you would like to be kept up to date about future international plans.

Timeline / Where We Are At
We began design of this bag over a year ago and have gone through several iterations to ensure that we create the best boardgame bag possible.
Over this time we have established a relationship with a Chinese manufacturer specializing in bag manufacturing. We have iterated our design across three different prototypes and produced some final prototypes which we used for reviews.
We are "feature complete" and happy with our final prototype. We are ready to place an order with our manufacturer. All we need is funding for this order and is why we launched this kickstarter.
Images used on this kickstarter page are mostly from our 2nd prototype. The final (3rd prototype) was used in the Rahdo review above. This third prototype has more padding and a sturdier wrap-around handle design. The third prototype also changed the word "Bag" on the logo to "Traveler".
Board to Death TV
Meeple Lab was founded by Steve P. and Terry F. out of a passion for boardgaming.
We went on several board game cruises and felt that there simply had to be a better way to take games aboard cruise ships. Our game boxes got damaged, we could only take a small number of games, and transporting games from suitcases to sites around the ship was a huge hassle. The Boards & Bits Traveler is our answer to that problem (and many other problems too!).
We both have extensive experience in managing complex projects in our day-to-day worklives and look forward to bringing that experience to this campaign. Our previous Kickstarter was for plastic dividers for Dominion. The project funded successfully and was delivered before the date we had suggested in the campaign.
Here is some of the feedback from that campaign:
“Amazing turnaround for a kickstarter!” --Regina
“Holy Moly! That was fast. I expected early November based on so many other projects instead of the first week of October. Please keep me informed if you plan on any more projects.” --Niranth
“WOW! When you say that I was getting this in October I didn't realize that it would be on the second of October.” --Joe T.
“Thanks for a brilliant product!” --Steve H.
Risks and challenges
Risks and Challenges
* Minimizing Risk
The Boards & Bits Traveler has been in development for over a year. In that time we have completed multiple design cycles and conducted extensive testing to be sure the product will handle all travel conditions.
We have been working with a Chinese manufacturer specializing in bag manufacturing for some time to ensure all our requirements are met. The bag is feature complete and ready for production. We intend on placing the production order immediately upon the closing of the campaign to ensure the fastest delivery possible.
We believe the project risks are low. We created a simple campaign to facilitate the follow-on delivery of the product. We deliberately chose a single color to simplify the manufacturing process and mitigate the risk involved with fulfilling different combinations and quantities of product to different people.
We have simplified delivery risk by targeting only the United States and Canada for this kickstarter.
* Standard International Production Risks
Producing overseas carries the associated standard risks. Customs hold-ups, port closures, component shortages, shipping mishaps, etc are unlikely but still possible events impacting delivery timing. We pledge to work through any unforeseen circumstances that could possibly occur and deliver you a quality product.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
