A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
What are we doing?
We are building a chair mat that is not only a chair mat but so much more! KeyMat is a keyboard for your feet. KeyMat is a spelling/dancing trainer for your little ones. It is also a critical device that helps the people with Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (ASH) disabilities to work with a computer.
We are currently in the prototyping phase and we are making sure that the touch keys work in all conditions. We are also researching the materials on the surface of KeyMat to make KeyMat as durable as possible. We know how much you care about the quality as well as the look of the product and we want to create a unique experience for you. We want KeyMat to be as organic and green as possible and at the same time, build a durable and a very high-quality product.
Currently, we offer two colors: 1. Bamboo and 2. Mahogany. In the near future, we will look into other colors especially if you guys like a different color. Just let us know and we will look into it! In any case, we will use the highest quality products and we will not sacrifice quality for color.
We are also working to make KeyMat water resistant. We all have been there! We probably can not make this mat work under your swimming pool, but we will make sure that spilling a few glasses of water does not do any damage.
We will run a series of tests in our home with different groups of people (probably our poor guests!) to make sure that KeyMat works for every body size. We will keep working on this, and if we realize that we need various keyboard sizes to accommodate everybody, we will do so.
Our plan is to do our comprehensive internal testing of the products before we ship them. So, we will make sure that the early-bird products are perfectly functional. However, we will use the feedback that we receive from our early-bird users for fine-tuning the V.2 series. User satisfaction is our gyroscope and we always tune ourselves to that. We follow the Lean Product Development methodology to make sure that what we build is what you want. So you are the most important aspect of the product development! Thank you!
How fast can you type using KeyMat?
Risks and challenges
Testing the product under various conditions and making sure that it works for all of those is a challenge and a priority. We need to make sure that the proximity sensors work for any humidity, temperature and body mass.
Another challenge that we are facing is making sure that the product is as green as possible and very durable. A chair mat takes a lot of punishment and by researching different coatings we will make sure that this mat lasts you a long time before you decide to give it away to your grandchildren!
We have yet another challenge which is shipping. Unfortunately, since we do not have a retailer at this stage, it is not super cheap to ship a relatively large package across the country or the world. Please let us know if you have a solution. We will be happy to hear them.
Get a KeyMat V.2 for a lower price than the MSRP, while benefiting from a KeyMat that is optimised by listening to our early bird suggestions. Every KeyMat comes with a few photos of it while being built with extreme care.
Get an early bird KeyMat for a discounted price. We will send you a few photos of your very own KeyMat as is it being built on the assembly line. We impatiently wait for your valuable feedback to make KeyMat better.
