Thank you for your patience while we pieced together this massive update!

You guys have been the best fans anyone could have asked for and we are so grateful to have such a passionate bunch of people backing this amazing project! When we first started down this journey we had no idea we would come across such an inspirational group of fans that it makes us really excited to be trying to make sure all of your needs and wants with this game are being met. We have been reading all of your comments, ideas, and suggestions and have decided to rearrange the Stretch Goals to move your priorities such as platform preferences and additional creative talents to the front of our list.

We want nothing more than to give you what you want so we have moved the PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS closer to the top. We have also heard your requests for a console release and so after much consideration we have added development for the PS4 to our list! But it doesn't stop there; a lot of you have been asking about whether or not you would be able to receive a copy of the game on one of the Stretch Goal platforms if we reach them so in response to this question we will now allow every backer in the $80 tier and up to choose their platform of choice for their copy of the game! So help us reach these goals by spreading the word and getting your friend to join in on this amazing journey!

Here is the list of Stretch Goals for all of us to work together towards:

$750K - Alexander O. Smith and Joseph Reeder added to the project

At this level we will be able to add two of the best translators for English and Japanese to our game, Alexander O. Smith and Joseph Reeder! Both of these men have worked with Mr. Matsuno in the past and are very excited to have this chance to work with him again on Unsung Story.

$1M - Hitoshi Sakimoto added to the project & PS Vita

After reading all of your comments, we have not only brought Hitoshi Sakimoto and the PS Vita a lot closer to the base goal, but we have also combined them into one tier!

$1.25M - PS4

A lot of you have been requesting that we add a console as one of our platforms for Unsung Story so because of this once we reach this level of backing you will now see a PS4 version of the game available for you to own!

$1.5M - Nintendo 3DS

Many of you have been asking that we move the Nintendo 3DS closer since you want to be able to play Unsung Story on this device so in response we have moved it closer for you! Help spread the word of this Kickstarter campaign and let’s reach this Stretch Goal and bring this game to the Nintendo 3DS!

$1.6M - New Game +

Replay value is very important when it comes to games today, so at this level we want to make sure you will have a New Game+ mode added to Unsung Story allowing you to build a better and stronger team on your second (and even third) time through!

$1.7M - Co-Operative Play (2v2 and 2vAI)

Want to pair up with a friend and take on another team of individuals in a head to head style tactics match? At this level we will add just that to our game, allowing you and a friend to compete against other teams of players or even against the AI!

$1.85M - Map Creator

Added Are you a creator at heart? Then this goal is for you! The addition of the Map Creator will allow you to create maps that you will then be able to share with the Unsung Story community! Have your friends play your map and use their feedback to become a Map Creating MASTER!

$2M - Full Orchestra Recording of the Soundtrack & Bonus Music Tracks

For the music lovers, at this level we will have a live orchestra play all of the music from Hitoshi Sakimoto for Unsung Story! In addition to this live orchestra Mr. Sakimoto will also compose additional music tracks for everyone to enjoy!

$2.15 - Voice-overs for Unsung Story subtitle translation by Alexander O. Smith

Allow the game to come to life with some amazing voice-overs and get the feeling that you are actually in the game watching the scene unfold! Translations for the subtitles will be included and will be done by Alexander O. Smith!

 $2.25M - Challenge & Arena Mode Added

Like a good challenge from time to time? Think you have what it takes to live through waves and waves of monsters? Then the Challenge Mode is for you! Want to take your skills to the next level and prove you are the best and go head to head against others in this Arena Mode!

$2.4 - Live Concert by Hitoshi Sakimoto

At this level of backing Hitoshi Sakimoto will now perform a live concert somewhere in Southern California, performing music from some of his most memorable titles. We will do our best to either include a live stream of this event or record the concert and upload somewhere for fans across the world to enjoy!

As for the additional characters and scenarios we had originally included, we have decided that since you guys are helping us out so much by backing this project we wanted to help you out by adding as much to the game as possible as our way of saying “Thank You” for your support. We will take care of these goals ourselves and will be sure to make the game as rich and as fulfilling as humanly possible!

We are very excited with these changes and hope you are too! By meeting the PS Vita and PS4 Stretch Goals we will be able to bring this game to the North American Playstation Store and again all backers at the $80 level and up will be able to choose one of these platforms for their copy of Unsung Story!

We are also excited to be able to bring Hitoshi Sakimoto in closer and to be able to tie him in with the PS Vita goal is just amazing since it means at the $1M level you will not only receive PS Vita development but you will have the incredibly talent Hitoshi Sakimoto on the team to compose the soundtrack. We have been fortunate to receive this message from the man himself to share with everyone!

It hasn't just been the Stretch Goals that we have been evaluating; after reading many comments and suggestions we have decided to make the following additions to some of the backer reward tiers based off of your input and desires

  • Beta Access has been added to the $50 tier!
  • At the $80, $110, $140, and both $165 tiers backers will now receive 2 Kickstarter Edition Characters (your choice!)!
  • Backers at the $250 tier and up will now receive ALL 4 Kickstarter Edition Elite Classes!
  • Backers at the $165 tiers will now receive 2 additional copies of the game! (3 copies total)
  • Backers at the $250 and up will now receive 3 additional copies of the game! (4 copies total!)

Please know that these additional copies of the game will be for the PC/Mac/Linux/Windows Tablets platforms only. You will not be able to choose any of the Stretch Goal platforms for these additional copies.

Also we have added the option to choose either a physical copy of Unsung Story or a digital copy for all backers in the $140 tier and up which should excite some of you collectors out there!

Another big request we saw was to add the Kickstarter Edition Characters as add-ons, so we have done just that! You are now able to purchase your choice of Kickstarter Edition Characters as an add-on that you can add to your pledge:

  • CD Soundtrack - $10 (include $15 for international shipping)
  • Digital Soundtrack - $8
  • Printed Strategy Guide - $25 (include $15 for international shipping)
  • Digital Strategy Guide - $20
  • Printed Art Book - $30 (include $15 for international shipping)(This art book will have a soft cover, while the art book being offered as a backer reward will have a hard cover)
  • Unsung Story TShirt - $25 (include $15 for international shipping)(NOTE: This TShirt is NOT the same TShirt that is being offered as a reward)
  • Special Kickstarter Edition Character - $10 each

If you are an international backer you will need to add $15 for shipping if you already have not added shipping based off of your backer tier. You only need to pay for shipping one time!

In order to take advantage of these add-ons you will need to do the following:

  • Click the “Manage Your Pledge” button.
  • Adjust your pledge amount to reflect the add-ons you wish to purchase. So for example, if you want to purchase the soundtrack you will need to add $10 do your current pledge amount.
  • Do not change the tier you are currently pledged at unless you want to change your tier as well. For add-ons you will just need to add the specified amount to your pledge.

After the campaign has ended we will send out a survey in order to find out which add-on(s) you purchased size of the Tshirt, and other customizations where possible. We have more exciting information coming out soon that I know you will all be excited about!

Thank you to everyone so far, and help spread the word so together we can make this amazing game!

Cheers,

Playdek

I just want to echo what @Jordan W Leigh said below this post. It's critically spot on. The 'Final Fantasy Tactics' name, along with Matsuno's, has so much weight behind it that it is important to take as much care and consideration into each aspect of the game (characters, story, script, soundtrack, gameplay) to make it worthy of being a 'spiritual successor'. Since Playdek has repeatedly cited FFT as the pinnacle of Tactical RPGs and their primary inspiration, it gives me great faith in this project.

Anyway I can't put it any better than Jordan did. Best of luck Playdek team!

My all time favorite games remain my all time favorite games, because they are unsurpassable. Whatever their genre or niche, they define it, and become the standard by which its successors are compared. Games like Final Fantasy Tactics, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Chrono Cross, ICO, Portal.

Of these, I have probably played FF Tactics more times than any, because the chess-like battle structure is just too playable. But the iconic success of Tactics has resulted in several spinoffs over the years, and while emulating the battle structure, they have been trite by comparison. Childish, shallow, inferior imitations.

FF Tactics was what it was because, like the others in my list, it had a story and characters and script and soundtrack to match. It was more than a moneymaker; It had craft. It had soul. No element was secondary to the gameplay, all were produced with due consideration, so that the whole thing coalesced into a dynamic, atmospheric, effecting, unique, memorable experience.

So when you guys say you want to make a "spiritual successor" to the original Tactics nearly two decades after its release, I assume you realize the pitfalls of the original's successors. This makes me hopeful. Let's make something inspired!

While still relative, I gave specific examples as to why I thought the way I do, meanwhile you used solely your opinion about "what the masses are most excited about" and "what will be easier."

      Agree to disagree, I suppose.

Fimbul we are working on preparing a large content update for everyone so you and all our other backers will have a better understanding as to how this game will play and what it will look like!

Jack and VkBest right now we are able to do the North Amaerican and EU regions. We are still working on adding additional regions.

Anthony and Devilyoda we are still looking at the possibility of adding on additional console platforms but for right now PS4 is currently the only next-gen console we have.

Chris and Ricardo we will not add the card game as an add-on since the game will be available to all iOS and Android users. As for information on the card game, I will look into gathering this information for you.

C C Magnus Gustavsson Android is already a given and we will develop the game for this platform.

Thank you again everyone for all of your comments and suggestions! We love reading them and appreciate all of your ideas that you are sharing!

Those first three stretch goals look great I really hope we make them.

I'll second that it would be awesome if we managed to reach voice acting and especially the orchestral version of the game's music to enhance the music for the game once Sakimoto is onboard.

As others have suggested, extra digital copies of the game would be a good addition for another add-on since I'd probably consider between my PS4, PC and Vita.

Guys, just to clarify things a bit:
      1. You can choose any platform this game is on by pledging $20 or more. There will be an update on this soon.
      2. The main platform of this game is : PC / Mac / Linux / iOS / Android / Windows Tablet. The stretch goal platform are : PSVita / PS4 / 3DS.
      3. Why PS4 and not Xbox One? I don't know and I don't care, I don't have either of them :p.

@playdek Please listen to a lot of advise from people about these other consol ports that have been promised, personally I'd rather things like arena , new game + and other game adding features be closer to the lower end of stretch goals rather then all the Console ports because not only does it take more time and waiting for the actual release crazy aspects that coul

I want to know about this card game as well, those 5 cards will be available in the game as well or it will only be possible to get them with this kickstarter? And will it be Steam?

    12. Merman.small

      Creator YSoSidious on January 22

Playdek, is it possible that you can give details as to what the card game is all about and on what platforms it will be released? I know it is a separate game with a separate budget and all, but since it has Kickstarter exclusive cards from this campaign, I'd like to know more about it. And can it be made an add-on as well?

Also, the ability to add-on additional digital copies would be great but in doing so what does that mean for the exclusives?

"we have decided to open up the PS Vita, PS4, and Nintendo options to all tiers that receive a digital copy of the game" Yahoo!!! Okay, now will PS4 and Vita versions support cross-saves? I doubt cross-buy will be an option, but if cross-save will be supported I think I'll just have to pledge for two copies for the extra support of the project (to get to those tiers in the first place) and to be able to play on both my systems!

I remember FFT on PS1 had no new game + and I still spent 500+ hours on it. As long as the game is rich and challenging enough I'm fine if it doesn't have a new game + really. I'm happy with the new stretch goals, also bringing Sakimoto san closer to the project and having a video of him awesome. U guys did a great job. I have good faith the project can reach at least 1M now and I'm really considering to up my pledge from 50 to 80 dollars.

While I like the stretch goals you have placed, you get into this area that other KS games have gotten into where they make all these promises and then fail to deliver on all promises and then ask for more funding. I hope you know what your getting into. To date I do not think I have ever seen too many KS games of this size ever hit their date. Don't drown. You only hurt the majority.

I'm hoping for an "additional copy" add on. This will solve the problem about selecting which platform you want. An add on for the figures would be nice as well since selecting "The Collector" would mean leaving the dev group.

Love the new add-ons. I'd also suggest making an additional copy of the game an add-on. I'm going to enjoy playing the game on my computer but I expect it would also be nice to have a copy on a handheld. I'm not sure what the price point on that would be, another $30? Right now the only way for me to get that additional copy is to hit the $140 tier if I'm looking at this correctly and that's far too steep a jump, much better for me to just wait and buy at retail for my second copy of the game.

Easy Tiger. The rewards the masses are most excited about are the console releases. Unlocking systems causes a bunch of people to join the kickstarted pledges. Wait, wait, wait.. I understand it's important for you as developers, and businessmen, to get the game onto as many platforms as possible, but I find it questionable to put a game staple mechanic such as new game + behind the paywall of 850 thousand dollars. The detents before the new game feature of new game + are adding new collaborators (which is more understandable) yet the rest are just to buy into more people across more platforms experiencing the game. And yes, while this is awesome, why is that prioritized before adding features to the game that will make it itself more appealing, specifically, new game +? I'm obviously confused as to this approach's value proposition. If you make a good game, it will get recognition and sales will follow. If you build a game that is available to a broader audience, yet it doesn't have all the features it otherwise could have, does that make a better game or just a more accessible one?

    30. Dealwithitghost.small

      Creator BladedFalcon on January 22

@Darklord: I don't remember at what exact place the full orchestra recording was before, but I'm pretty sure it was around the same sport or range, if not slightly higher before, so it's not like the goal for it has been raised because of the changes of the other stretch goals.

Furthermore, your argument is a bit flawed in the sense that said extra formats allows even MORE people to play, and those people wouldn't care if the game gets full orchestra music if they can't play the game on their console of choice to begin with.

I get that to you, that doesn't affect you, but try to understand that for a lot of us, getting this game on those formats IS very important, and in fact, most comments and request gotten up to this point has been asking for mainly that, so there's definitely an interest/demand for it.

    31. Fb_profile_picture.small

      Creator Kevin on January 22

@Darklord Well for people that's hoping this campaign to reach the handhelds or consoles, hitting those goals is much more important to us than others such as voice acting. In fact we're already getting Hitoshi Sakimoto for the composing of the soundtracks once we hit 1mil.

There's quite a few gameplay additions in between that would definitely benefit more than a Full Orchestra recording (map creator? multiplayer coop?). I would love to have epic music to go along with the game but I still think that platforms are more important. They would gain even more backers due to the reduction of these goals as well. For one, I believe it's a step to the right direction.

    32. Major%20hq.small

      Creator Darklord on January 22

For me a Full Orchestra is way more interesting than loads of extra formats, since I’ll be playing on PC I get nothing out of those goals. A Full Orchestra benefits every single person who plays, extra formats benefit just a few.

We have been looking at all of your comments and we have decided to open up the PS Vita, PS4, and Nintendo options to all tiers that receive a digital copy of the game. Some of you made very compelling statements that really got us thinking; the entire point of this Kickstarter campaign was to bring this game out to all the platforms you requested. Because of this we realized that we shouldn't limit your choices and that we should do what we set out to do.

I will make sure to post an official update tomorrow, but for now please know that we will allow fans at all tiers that have a digital copy of the game ($20 tier and up) the ability to choose between all platforms we develop for; PS Vita, PS$, and Nintendo 3DS included.

    34. Fb_profile_picture.small

      Creator Kevin on January 22

While I think most of the changes, especially the 3DS stretch goal's reduction (massive, might I add) was truly awesome and much-needed. But not to sound like an entitled person, but giving the ability to choose the stretch goals consoles as a platform for the game copy to $80 and above tiers is a bit baffling I have to say.

I admit I didn't pledge high, only $20 because I'm low in the financial level but still hoping to get the 3DS version when this game releases. I assume that you guys are limiting the console choice to only $80 tiers and above to cover back the cost of enormously reducing the 3DS and PS Vita goals, I understand. But I believe doing this hurts many 20$ and $50 backers.

    35. Missing_small

      Creator Wooster on January 22

Replace "and" with "&" and your update should fit that missing "o".

Also, you should update the front page with the new goals and update the rewards chart.

Re: PS4/3DS/Vita. Personally, I'm on the fence on the $80 price.

Kickstarter, despite all appearances, isn't a preorder service. It's a fundraiser platform. So qualms about paying above the manufacturer's suggested retail price isn't really valid. The objective is to raise money to make a project possible.

Also, I figured from the get-go that the goals would need adjustments. Capcom's abused the Mega Man franchise and their key employees which made Mighty No 9 project just scream for fund raising. Tactical RPGs have never garnered that much social attention so I thought it was rather presumptuous to reach for such lofty goals similar in scope to Mighty No 9. It would've been better to set the initial goal and wait until the fund raising reached a tempo to announce the stretch goals.

Honestly, I thought the end result would be somewhere between $500K and $800K (after amateurly watching Kicktraq the first few days and ignoring the posted trending to total). So the $80 donations are needed to keep the project going and to make up for the lost pledges to the early bird special, which went past attracting the compulsive buyers and into an active hindering the project.

That said, considering the average price of a PS4 game is and the kickbacks $80's isn't a bad deal at all. (OST, Guide, Art Book, Beta Access)

Actually, about the beta access. I think it's dangerous to combine that with the entry level console prices. You'll get a TON of bad press from idiots who can't tell the difference between an in progress game and a finished product when the beta comes out. Since you can't edit that, (or so I hear) I'd 'STRONGLY' recommend putting a new reward tier between the $50 and $80 point. without the beta but with the Vita/PS4/3DS reward. At least then the people who pay $80 will be the folks who paid specifically for the beta and the stupid outrage will be from a minority.

Also, I think it'd help the project if we had a protagonist or other major character's face to associate the project with. The concept art is amazing but there's not much game to look at on this page.

But yeah, I'm still impressed with the project. Actively adapting to and addressing issues is a good sign.

      @ReptilianSamurai:

Can't speak for Playtek at all, but I'm sure they will clarify soon about their decision for the 80 pledge. Aside from that, I CAN point you to this article that has been posted a couple days ago, in which Matsuno is interviewed and gives a more clear light on his involvement:

      http://www.usgamer.net/articles/tgs-yasumi-matsunos-new-world

Hope you found that useful, and maybe helps with some of your doubts? Also, if you have the patience, going into the general comments section of the kickstarter page is a good way to stay in constant communication with representatives of Playdek. They have been pretty good about staying in touch with commenters, and replying directly to most relevant comments several times per day, so any complaints you have, I'm pretty sure will be addressed directly by them either here, or in that page (:

Count another backer as disappointed that I won't be able to choose my platform of choice unless I back at the $80 tier. I'm still awaiting confirmation of how involved Yasumi Matsuno will actually be. I'd want to play this on Vita most likely, but if I need to pay $80 for the privilege of choosing that platform, then this becomes an overpriced pre-order. I may just drop my pledge and wait till the game comes out and buy it then (which also gives me the chance to check reviews and see how the final product actually turns out.) Which is too bad, because I love showing my support to JRPGs, and especially help get games I love from creators like Matsuno made. I'm happy to see the stretch goals revised, but I'm still not thrilled with how this kickstarter campaign has been managed.

@closedsocket: I believe you will only receive a digital copy of the game in $80 tier, you can opt for a physical copy starting from $140 tier.

In my opinion $80 to choose the stretch goals platform is quite reasonable. I can explain my argument, but it's gonna make this post like an essay, and it also might start world war III. So, I'm just gonna shut up and trust that Playdek will give a wiser solution.

So if I pledged less than $80, I won't have a choice of which console I get the game on? It'll be PC only?

Ooof only 80 and up on choosing a platform if the stretch goals are reached. Did I read that correctly? :-/

@Eggyhead, you still get all that other stuff, plus a physical version of the game (I believe) so it's actually a pretty good deal. The game itself is 40 dollars in value minimum for a platform, then all the collectors stuff... 80 bucks seems fair to me. My real question is why is the Vita a 1 million stretch goal when the 3ds is half a million more than that. The 3ds is in so many more peoples hands it just makes more sense to me to port it to the 3ds first. This information doesnt even change my stretch goal because the 3ds port is so far away.

Kind of dissappointed that any multiplayer options including map maker are such a far stretch , that would have really help to make this game have endless potential

$80 just for platform preference is kind of steep, don't you think? Every other kick-starter I've participated in has just given me the option by default, as long as the stretch goal was met. If I'm expected to pay that much more just to play on vita, then as long as the game doesn't cost $80 at launch, it's already a better idea to cancel and wait for retail release, is it not?

      Wow...

If I don't pledge in that $80 tier then I cannot choose the platform of choice?! Welp, you may have lost me for now.

That's completely ridiculous as Shane said...

This is the first game Kickstarter I've backed that has put the right to choose your platform at such a high price or tier...

I guess it's a step in the right direction, but I was expecting more details about the game itself, such as gameplay, or concept art. When would we see those?

And also, what does the behind-the-scenes tiers really entail? And will they have a max limit? Do those tiers just get to see early drafts and have no real input?
