Just imagine you are enjoying Eiffel Tower or Big Ben and suddenly you realize that something is missing... your wallet, it’s gone! One event of this kind can destroy your vacation and turn it into a traveler’s nightmare. Thousands of tourists end up having their dream vacation ruined because of the pickpocketing. This is why we designed Buzzarm: to guard your valuables and your memories.
What is Buzzarm?
Buzzarm is the device that looks like credit card and can protect your wallet from pickpockets. Just put Buzzarm into your wallet and feel safe. Pickpockets will bring no troubles to you. It works pretty easy: if somebody try to take your wallet insensibly, Buzzarm will make an alarm on your smartphone as well as Buzzarm. In case you want to use your wallet, you have 3 options:
- use “safe-zone mode” that creates non-alarm area around the owner (approximately 70 cm)
- disable anti-theft mode using smartphone (or smart watch) in the likeness of your car's alarm system
- use NFC in the smartphone or smart watch to auto-disabling anti-theft mode (in progress)
In the near future, we can collect data on theft attempts and share it with police to enhance patrolling of particular neighbourhoods and make thieves feel threatened. Using Buzzarm you can stop worrying about safety of your wallet. Buzzarm is a technology that can make this world a safer place.
It all started in a bar. My good friend was complaining about how someone had stolen her wallet earlier that day and how great it would be to have something to prevent it. I grabbed on to this idea and made the first prototype of what is now called Buzzarm. It looked nothing like the one we have now but again – my goal was to prove that it can be done and it works! We have been working on Buzzarm for more than two years now. In my head it looked like credit card so that you could put in in your wallet and forget it exists. Sounds pretty simple but when it comes to tech – the simplest ideas require the most thorough effort.
Like most of the technical projects, we commenced with trial and error. We set a goal to make the device at the same time functional, reliable, energy efficient and as thin as possible. It didn't happen immediately. Our first prototypes had used Bluetooth 3.0 and accumulators. It was not effective because of high energy consumption and the need to periodically charge the accumulator. Gradually we turned to BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) technology and the need for accumulators disappeared by itself and we started using batteries (CR1220).
Later on, we faced with the task of determining the most effective forms of sensor. We tried dozens of options, conducted hundreds of tests and as a result we have found the best option!
At this phase, we began to carry out user tests and found that if a person wears a purse in a breast pocket or pants pocket, there is a need to shield Buzzarm on one side, to avoid false alarm to his own body. This led to the search for solutions to this problem, the search for relevant components, and additional sensor. I am very glad that this problem was solved.
At the moment all the main technical problems have been solved. We are now working on improving the algorithms of the device. We have already implemented Buzzarm firmware update feature through application on the smartphone and now we work on the interface for the police. With it's help will be possible to track the theft attempt and build analytics for preventing crimes.
We have created new design for plastic body and marked out the multifunction button. Following design is ready for manufacturing and approved with production.
The core of Buzzarm's sensing technique is called capacitive proximity detection. The card emits a weak electric field around itself and detects its disturbance by any conductive object.
Some smart filtering techniques are used to prevent false alarms. Another technology used in Buzzarm to connect it to smartphone is Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). This is special version of Bluetooth designed to communicate with low-power devices and is a key communication protocol of the upcoming era of Internet of Things.

Buzzarm card is available in 4 main colors that had been rendered and ready for manufacturing. For maximum efficiency we recommend choosing a color that works as a camouflage and merges with wallet's colour. Anyway, we work on implementing more exclusive design and soon it will be available.

We are passionate about what we do. Especially when we understand that our work can help people avoid experience of pickpocketing. Kickstarter for us is a good chance to launch manufacturing. We have already determined with suppliers and manufacturers and we need your support to start it up and make the world a safer place.
Risks and challenges
Antarit team has worked very hard over the last two years to create very useful device that can extremely decrease level of pickpocketing. We have done deep research and have made a lot of experiments to find optimal configuration, the best component parts and most suitable algorithm. Our team has taken serious measures to ensure the risks and challenges had been defined before the campaign launch.
Buzzarm is the device that has to be slim, reliable and sensitive. That’s why it requires complex engineering and right component parts. There is typically a 60 days to create case, electronic board, to solder SMD components, install sensors and finally test the device. Therefore, the production could be delayed due to manufacturing complexity. However we do the best to optimise this process. We work with reliable partners and suppliers. That fills us with optimism about minimisation of manufacturing delay.
Depending on where you are in the world, shipping could take about 30 days. We are working with expert logistic companies to ensure that our product will be shipped without delays.
We are working our hardest to make Buzzarm thiner, battery life longer and optimise algorithms of detection. These adjustments are more like product enhancements and we promise they will make our product better.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
