About this project
Thank a bunch for checking us out! I’m really grateful for your time and support. I can’t wait to share Lily and Sebastian’s next adventures with you, so I hope your as excited about reading them as I am about publishing them! Being an independent author is a dream come true and I couldn’t have done it without you.
What is Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus?
Love, Lies, and Hocus Pocus - the Lily Singer Adventures is a witty, fun-filled urban fantasy series about a bookish and awkward wizard, Lily Singer, her troublemaking witch friend, Sebastian Blackwell, and her talking cat, Sir Edgar Allen Kipling. They must work together to save the world from magical mayhem and bring peace between magical and mundane races. Will they succeed? Or will the world be plunged into an era of darkness and war?
Last February, you awesome people helped me publish the first two books of this adventure. Now the story continues with Book 3 - Allies and Book 4 - Legends. They are up against devious forces of evil desperate to obtain an ancient power and willing to do anything to get it. Lily and Sebastian must navigate shaky alliances while dealing with their feelings for each other (and believe me, neither of them are very good at feelings). Their adventures take them from Atlanta to Savannah, and even across the ocean to tea-lover's paradise, aka England.
Full of life lessons about trust, friendship, duty, and the responsible use of power, these books’ snarky humor will keep you laughing while the original magic system and world building will keep fantasy lovers enthralled. Inspired by ancient Sumerian lore, language, and cuneiform script, I’ve created my own unique reality that you can dive into: bizarre enough to keep you on your toes while real enough to make you wonder if it just might be true.
Sound interesting? Check out the first chapter!
Already read Books 1 and 2? Well thanks for being awesome and getting my first two books! Click here to read the first Chapter of Book 3 . This Kickstarter is specifically funding Books 3 & 4 both being published in April.
Written in the same vein as magic-filled adventures like Harry Potter and Sabrina the Teenage Witch, this is one series you won’t want to miss. Here are what some of the readers of Books 1 & 2 are saying.

The Plan with a Capital "P"
Meet my wonderful and amazing team! I wouldn't be here without them. After all, you know what they say: it takes a village to raise a child...er, publish a book.
I'm an entrepreneur and a sponge, so I’ve loved the process of self-publishing where I find all the answers I need and learn things for myself. That said, I know I can only self-teach so much, so I’ve hired the most professional cover artist and editor. My goal is to create a product as good as or better than traditionally published books. With both books already written and currently in the editing/formatting process, here’s a timeline of how the rest of the project will go down.
I have all this and much more behind the scenes going on to make these books land with a splash and a bang. The only thing I’m missing is…you got it…money. That’s where you come in. I’ve run the race up to this point, but to cross the finish line, I need your help. I can’t do it without you.
Budget and STRETCH GOALS
$4300 = Minimum goal: here’s a breakdown of the BARE MINIMUM needed to meet publishing costs and put books in hand.
4300 doesn’t cover all my publishing costs. However, it is a start, and with it I can squeak by. However, to squeak by I'll be using funds I SHOULD be investing in growing my readership and funding the next books. So please, let's hit those stretch goals! I depend on you all to spread the word and encourage people you know to check out the project and join our team. Thanks!
$6750 = Stretch Goal #1: these things are GREATLY NEEDED to make the books do well, but are not bare minimum to put books in hand.
When we reach $6750, you'll unlock character portraits! I'll work with my artist Tony to do portraits of Madam Barrington and John Faust LeFay, two people I know you've been DYING to see.
When we meet this goal ALL OF YOU will get the **FREE ADDITION** of dossier PDFs for the 5 main characters that includes their portrait, juicy personal info, and never-before-seen background details.
$8500 = Stretch Goal #2: these are add-ons that I would LOVE to do for you, but can't afford to invest in unless we unlock this stretch goal.
Reward 1: Replica of Sebastian’s enchanted truth coin. The art is already designed and the supplier picked out. These would be 100 unique, numbered coins made of solid, heavy, metal. This awesome reward could be added onto the $25 tier and up for an additional $20.
Reward 2: Numbered and signed paperback copies of my novella, A Study In Mischief. You'll be able to add this perk onto your $25 and up tier for a measly $10 extra dollars!
These stretch goals might seem like a lot, but I KNOW that as you help me promote the heck out of this thing we can meet them and make this book launch really go wild. Together, we CAN do this, so please take a moment to share the news on your favorite social media platform. Tell your friends, your family, your dentist, your banker, whatever. If you pledge, tell everybody that you did. Share the project on social media and let your friends know what they're missing out on. Thank you so much!
Why Should You Back This Project?
You love to read: This series is a riot of fun laughs, exciting adventure, and life lessons that make you think. With multiple novels and short stories already published, and no effort spared to make these books as amazing as they can be, I can assure you of their quality.
You love fantasy, magic, snarky humor, tea, libraries, books, ancient history/myth and cats: This series has tons of all that, with some fae, Arthurian lore, and time travel thrown in just for good measure.
You support the arts: I’m not only an indie author, but also an artist and musician. The success of my writing career allows me to pursue my musical and artistic creativity as well, bringing even more beauty into the world (check out my youtube channel and art website).
You're a rebel and enjoy fighting for the underdog: Help me show the world that anyone in today’s society with enough drive and gumption can create books as good as, even BETTER than the mega publishers who like to tell us what is, and is not, good enough for print.
You wish there were more strong females in fantasy: You’ve got a strong woman writing about a strong woman. While Lily is an introvert and socially awkward, her inner strength enables her to grow and develop in character and wisdom, solving problems and doing her duty while remaining compassionate and guided by a moral compass. She serves as a positive role model while going through her own realistic struggles. I was actually brought to tears when a reader posted this review
"Sherrer spins a fantasy world where witches and wizards intertwine with the mundane. I highly recommend this book to Young Adults and middle school and high school students, especially young women. Lily Singer is the perfect role model, with the poise and brains of a 20th Century woman and the magic and skills of a heroine." - Elinor Balensuela
You want more clean fantasy: While I don’t ignore the realities of life (people really do cuss, kill, and go through horrors), I present these things in a way that gives the story impact and meaning without cluttering the book with unprofitable sensationalism, gore, or intimate details. While these books are about adults dealing with adult situations, they are kept appropriate for young adults (13+) and you can safely gift them to your teenager, your mom, or even your grandma.
You want the real thing: While I keep my writing appropriate, it is by no means easy or fluff-filled! To learn and grow, we have to face the hard things in life and overcome them, and that is what Lily and her friends do.
Still not feeling it? That’s okay. I really appreciate you giving this project a look. If you're not sure you'd like the story, you can download the prequel to this series FREE right here. Give it a read, see what you think, then come back!
But even if you decide backing isn't right for you, it is still a huge help if you would share it with friends and encourage others to support it. If you're interested in keeping up with my publishing, you can follow me on social media and sign up for my newsletter to get updates and giveaways. I love involving my readers in my writing, and do frequent world-building surveys and other interactive content.
Who Am I?
Lydia Sherrer: writer, reader, wife, cat-mom, musician, artist, archer, cosplayer, nature lover, and not-cook. I'm known for captivating world building, relatable but quirky characters, and snarky wit.
I'm a native of the rolling, horse-country hills of Kentucky. I often got into trouble as a kid for reading instead doing “more important” tasks like eating, sleeping, and schoolwork. Now an adult (at least on the outside) I am happily writing stories for people of all ages to get in trouble over because they just can't put them down. (Pssst, kids, don't hide your book under the pillow, that's the most obvious hiding place and Mom will surely catch you if you hide it there).
Though I traveled the world from China to Syria during college studying languages, I have since settled down in Louisville, KY to write, live, and love. I believe that every man, woman, and child should have access to good fiction, to learn and grow from it. That's why I work to bring impactful stories into this world to help create positive change.
Why Should You Care About Stories?
Stories are important. They help us learn, grow, and live. I write stories to help people better understand themselves and the world around them, so we can become better people, and can act to make the world a better place.
Supporting authors who write quality fiction is essential to maintaining a culture vibrant with imagination, innovation, wisdom, diversity, kindness, and respect. Stories influence people, people influence culture, and culture influences history. If you want to make the world a better place, not just for you but for your children, find an author you love, and commit to supporting their work. I am honored that you are here, considering supporting me.
Risks and challenges
There is very little risk, but plenty of challenge to get everything done. When the project is funded, everything is already in line to print and distribute the books (books written, art drawn, etc). The only risk is potential setbacks in the timetable if unexpected errors are found, printing approval is delayed, stuff like that. Barring my sudden and untimely death, however, nothing should push the project back more than several weeks. Come hell or high water, these books WILL get published and in your hands when you help me fund this project!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
