I'm not very good in front of the camera as you'd have seen in the video above(I'm much better behind the camera, promise!) so I'd go into the details here through writing.
It's a horror film made by people who love horror.
I discussed the premise of the film in the video as well as the characters and their motivations. As it's a short film, clocking at 5-6 mins, I'd like to keep the narrative surprises till it's in your hands (So you get the best immersive experience). Instead I'd like to discuss the general themes it caters, how it came to be and what it hopes to achieve.
This is a very ambitious project with a strong emphasis on horror, both psychological and physical. Still, it's not jammed with jump scares but rather the focus is on evoking the unsettling and under-your-skin eerie feeling. It's a horror film made by people who love horror and are passionate about making an exciting and memorable horror film. It's not meant to create jump scares by devising a generic narrative formula or to provide shock value or have monetary gain for me and my team. Rather it's borne out of pure love of horror and with a passion to create something truly original and exciting. Something which would stand on its own by being different to anything on the market and be remembered as a memorable horror experience by the audience.
Inception of an Idea for "Hunger" and how it all came together.
As a writer, I always wanted to write something which I as a reader would love to read. I read many famous horror writers and specially spent my time in the horrifying worlds created by the pen of Stephen King and H.P. Lovecraft. The inspiration started flooding in and I started writing horror. I wrote dozens of horror scripts with very ranged premises from apocalypse to zombies and psychological horror to metaphysical horror with ghosts. At the time, I was also fascinated by the famous serial killer Ed Gein's story and read a lot about his upbringing and his relationship with his mother. Although I had the premise of "Hunger" already on paper but Ed Gein's story really piqued my interest in polishing and developing the twisted relationship of "Audrey" and "Dave" in Hunger.
I didn't just wanted to write another cannibal story, I wanted to go deeper into the psyche of the characters and their deranged behaviour. While writing "Hunger", I realized that I have something special and if I want to make my directorial debut, I'd make this film. So, after many sleepless nights I finished the script which I'd be proud of. That's how Hunger came to be and after that it was just the determination and passion to make this film as I truly believed that I have something exciting and memorable in my hands. Once I was satisfied with the script, I started developing the process further to bring this story from the page to the screen. I started gathering a small team of very talented people who were equally passionate about the project and wanted to make something which we're all proud of. It became a passion project of everyone involved and we started pushing hard to make it a reality.
How we created a very small budget without compromising on the quality.
We set a very small budget for our short film as we wanted to only spend money where it was absolutely essential, namely, gear for camera, lighting, location and props etc. Most of the team even wanted to work just for the experience and being a part of the project as their only reward. Plus, the script relied on atmosphere and psyche of the characters rather than VFX and explosions which really helped in keeping the budget to very minimal. (Not to say that our film won't have exciting visually-driven scenes with some very interesting twists but let's keep some surprises for you to see yourself :)).
So with lots of planning and lots of online-hunting we(me and my Producer) managed to gather a team of few people covering the big positions and secured the main location for the film. The pictures of the location will be coming very soon in the further updates :). Of course there were areas where we couldn't compromise e.g. insurance, but still we managed to keep the budget tight without exceeding the 1000 pound mark.
We do have a very high profile actor quite interested in the project but nothing is set in stone so we can't reveal any further info but keeping fingers and toes crossed!!
Concluding message and future updates.
Now the project would be in yours hands and if you believe in its potential and want to contribute in making a true bone-chilling genre film, please do so. This is the film for all the film lovers; this film is yours!

Risks and challenges
Filmmaking is a very unpredictable business. We try to have everything organized but the nature of the work dictates that you can never be fully prepared. If a situation arises on set or in post or after that, we'd keep you guys up-to-date and would ask for your full moral support. The support of the people who believe in the project helps tremendously. Because the location and number of talent & crew involved is limited, the chances of problems arising is very minimal but rest assured we'd be ready to tackle every challenge and give everything we have to make it work in the end. We wouldn't have started this project if we weren't prepared fully to take every challenge head on.
We'd make sure the rewards are sent on time and keep you in the loop throughout the process with pictures, blog posts and videos. Now it's not jut my project or my team's but it's OURS. You're all part of this and we'd make sure to keep you involved and feel a part of the process in every step of the way.
