Sunrise parts the night-heavy clouds like a fresh razor, and I say to you, "Good morning."
Let me introduce you to twelve tales crafted to frighten you in bright spaces. Don’t bother leaving the lights on, for oftentimes the worst of what the world has to offer comes cloaked within the brightest shaft of sunlight.
Though the terrors of formless darkness are infinite, there’s a special horror out there held within each day. From the peculiar stranger behind you on a morning run, to your family beach vacation that refuses to end, these twelve tales will have you fleeing the light for the numbing embrace of night.
In between painting and creating graphic novels I often find myself drawn to writing short works of horror fiction. The twelve terrifying stories in Darker In The Sun are not your typical "bump in the night" type tales, oh no, their horror goes far beyond simple fears in the dark. They've been hidden away for far too long, they're hungry now, and it's time to let them out to play.
A selection of stories included in Darker In The Sun: Stories Of Daytime Horror:
“Beyond The Verge” - A Marshal in 19th century Texas is charged with the territory’s first census. Too bad the job isn’t as easy as it seems.
“Repast” - Two estranged men reunite after decades apart to remember a friend that died. So what if their memories of that fateful night don’t quite match up?
“The Account Of Gavin McNabb” – The crew of the Polyphylax is restless and eager to leave the secluded atoll where they’re moored. Tensions threaten to boil over while a Naturalist makes a terrifying discovery.
“Come Away, O Human Child!” – A pacifistic father hunts an inhuman creature through the forest, convinced it kidnapped his beloved daughter. To what ends he does not know.
“Matchmaker” – Tara just wanted a meditative bike ride on those beautiful old country roads. A simple question from a stranger sets her on a path toward pure evil.
I have illustrated this book in a style I think you'll find befitting the sometimes rough, often brutal, and always dark nature of the stories. The twelve main illustrations in the book will also be printed in a small postcard set available in the "Whispers In The Evening Heat" tier and above. Send one a month to your mom and creep her out for a whole year.
I'm asking for $2500 to cover the printing costs of a luscious limited edition, softcover run of Darker In The Sun, BUT I have all sorts of frills planned if we can hit funding early and push through my fantastic stretch goals. Namely converting all editions to hardcover, larger print run, a book of additional artworks, and even...drumroll... the possibility of a SECOND collection of short horror stories reaching publication SIMULTANEOUSLY!

Risks and challenges
The book is written, illustrated, and is on final edit as I type this.
I have already shepherded two high quality graphic novels through the Kickstarter process and delivered. The only hiccup with both of those projects was the fact that they were printed in China, which can cause a significant delay in shipping.
For Darker In The Sun I have contracted a domestic printer (right down the road!) of unsurpassable quality to help bring this project to completion in a timely manner.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
