Technological innovation and electronics are making their way into the field of sports. The first fitness trackers appeared just a few years ago, and now they’re everywhere. But they don’t really differ from one another, and they all suffer from similar problems.
The main challenges still haven’t been resolved: the accuracy of the data collected and the convenience to access it. The trackers that are already available either don’t count all the necessary parameters or measure inaccurately, because their technology isn’t quite there yet. These problems are even more challenging when a swimmer is constantly surrounded by water. It’s difficult to incorporate technology into a comfortable, lightweight tracker that’s also waterproof. It’s complicated to establish a reliable and accurate underwater connection. We took all the best features from smartwatches and fitness trackers, combined several types of communication, corrected mistakes, developed an interface and created Swimmerix.
Swimmerix is a smart tracker that transforms a simple swimming routine into an effective and consistent training session. It is designed, engineered and produced to supply swimmers with selected information on the go and give detailed information to swimmers of all levels. It makes the amateur and professional swimmer’s life easier by delivering necessary data in real time, customizing their training and securely storing all statistics for future use.

Unlike other swimming aids and general fitness trackers, the Swimmerix system uses two devices: a lightweight, unobtrusive wristband and a dedicated waterproof base.
The product suite consists of a base station, a wristband, a mobile app, and is completed by a charger and wall mount.
The device has three types of parameters that enable it to provide performance analytics:
- Biometric – heartbeat.
- Quantitative – laps, strokes, time, distance, and calories burnt.
- Personal Training – derived from the desired parameters of training.
Based on this data, the Swimmerix app and The Cloud provide comprehensive reporting on improving training methods and performance.
The portable base station can be mounted on any pool wall and connects to the wristband using wireless low-frequency communication. Since the base station is stationary, Swimmerix is far more accurate at speed measuring than any other swimming aid.
Combining the swimmer’s heart rate and strokes with speed data and lap times, the base station sends out useful feedback to the wristband.
Base can show up to 6 different parameters: Calories Burned, Number of Strokes, Speed, Lap Time, Laps and Heart Rate.
The Wristband collects the swimmer telemetry in real time and transmits data to the Base. A heart rate sensor is located on the back of the Wristband while a low frequency antenna and chip are concealed inside for easy communication and inertial navigation between the Wristband and the Base.
The Swimmerix mobile app allows you to configure the Base and perform data synchronization with The Cloud.
The mobile app will be available for iOS and Android. Using the app you can review detailed workout statistics, targeted routines, and personalized training programs for upcoming training sessions.
The Base and Wristband are equipped with low-frequency transceivers with operating frequency at 433 MHz. This allows the user convenience to focus on their workout while data is transmitted in real time.
Each unit can select free sub-channels in the selected frequency band for more reliable communication, which is important for similar devices used in the pool. In addition to the sub-channels, each Wristband and Base has a unique identifier that ensures reliable communication between authorized devices only. The shell of the device is waterproof and conforms to international standard in water resistance (IP68).
Through clear color codes, the display on the wristband then encourages the swimmer to speed up, slow down, or keep going.
Each instruction and training program is guided by a complex algorithm based on the recording, processing and sharing of personal data, taking into account the swimmer’s individual characteristics and goals.
A personal profile page safely stores each user’s training, biometric, and other quantitative data. Here you can find suitable training programs with a detailed description for each one.
In just one click, the program is downloaded to the mobile phone application, which then synchronizes with the base station.

Risks and challenges
The process of taking a technical device from prototype to mass production is slow and involved. Unexpected complications may arise, for example, due to a supplier missing a deadline or technical problems of the supply chain for the mass production.
However, we have experienced players on our team that have already brought a number of different hardware products to mass production.
We have the manufacturing flow, testing procedures and sourcing of parts well defined. We believe that we will start shipping Swimmerix to our supporters in October 2016.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
