Sheherizade has been telling tales for thousands of years, weaving them with blood and sand. Her triumphs against misogyny and abuse echo well beyond her time period, and the lessons still resonate with us today. We begin this process in her footsteps, walking through darkness towards hope.

Inspired by The Arabian Nights, this wistful performance of Sheherizade incorporates three folktales from around the world through puppetry, dance, poetry, and original music.

The piece began, in its first evolution, at this year’s Carnegie Mellon University's school of Drama’s Playground 2012 (http://www.drama.cmu.edu/156). It is now being produced by Bathwater Productions of San Francisco (http://www.bathwater.org/Bathwater_Productions/Home.html), along with writer/creator: Aidaa Peerzada, and  director/creator: Rodney Earl Jackson Jr.  They are excited to see the piece resurrected at the International FringeNYC Festival in August!  Show dates being:

WED 8/15 @ 4:00-4:40
THU 8/16 @ 6:30-7:10
SAT 8/18 @ 8:00-8:40
SUN 8/19 @ 5:15-5:55

*At the New School Theater

SUBWAY:

The piece we have created is focused on engaging families and exposing a diverse community of people to experience theatre.  The original English translation of "Scheherazade" was altered to Sheherizade to make it easier for native English speakers to pronounce. This change is also representative of our intentions to bring abstract theatrical conventions to universal stories.

Through the creator's  unique vision and the telling performances of the CMU   students and new cast members, Sheherizade exudes a youthful energy sure to captivate audiences.

Working on their own, these young artists have taken the show as far as they can go and now need your help to make a powerful impact at the International FringeNYC Festival. The creative team is attempting to raise $3,500 to make Sheherizade possible.

Here's what your support means:

We will be able to rent rehearsal space at the lovely Mark Morris Dance Center in New York City, thus enabling us to make the show the best it can be.

We will connect with our audience through grass-roots marketing via postcards and posters, and band together with two other shows based out of Carnegie Mellon to place an ad in the New York Times.

Your sponsorship will provide us with the means for our actors, designers, and technicians to survive in the bustling metropolis of New York.

It will help pay for the insurance of the New School Theatre.

We will connect with our audience through grass-roots marketing via postcards and posters, and we will band together with two other shows based out of Carnegie Mellon University to place an ad the New York Times.

We will be able to build the show's costumes and props.

With your help you can make this family-friendly show a reality. The heart of Sheherizade is about gaining new and unique perspectives on old ideas and experiences. By supporting Sheherizade, you will also be supporting a group of like-minded and artful individuals towards a goal long yearned for.

If we do not reach our kickstarter goal, our mission of creating change may one day, like Sheherizade, vanish into the annals of history.
