NEW PERK : Signed Spectrum
The Sepctrum will be signed by Philip and Andrew
I have known Philip and Andrew Oliver a long time - nearly 10 years to be precise. I have always been impressed with their energy for the games industry and they love to talk about the golden age of gaming, retro gaming to me and you, and in particular their contribution in the early years.
After the success Roger Kean and I have had with 'The History of Ocean Software' and 'The Story of U.S. Gold' we have now decided to tell the story of 'The Oliver Twins'
I have been given boxes and boxes of documents, drawings, reviews, listings, games and more that will no doubt make their way in the book making it the definitive guide to how these guys got themselves into the industry.
I’ve given been given an offer to hunt through Philip’s loft to see what else can be found in the HEAPS of boxes – as he keeps everything!
The cover of the book was designed by C64 graphics legend, Steven Day or STE'86 as many fans know him. The cover itself will be in matt with the Dizzy character embossed, and spot varnished.
Those who have seen my Ocean, US Gold and Spectrum books have always commented on their quality and content. This book will be printed by the same printer to the very same quality and be full of content an never seen before imagery.
The spine will be 'stitch-bound' allowing the book to be opened further so you can see that part of the image that is normally in the spine if glued. This will be ideal for this 236 page book where each and every pixel can be seen.
I am teaming up Roger Kean once again on this project - as you may know Roger owned Newsfield Publications that launched Crash, Zzap! 64, Amtix etc.
Roger has been responsible for documenting the history in both my Ocean and U.S. Gold book and his skills will be used once again to put to paper the story of The Oliver Twins, from the very start in their early teens up to the point they started Blitz.
The book will be a classic British Story of Brothers turning a love of games, into a business that inspired so many.
Each of the Oliver Twins games up to the Blitz era will also be represented in the book across all the formats.
What will make this book unique is that I will be in touch with many of those who worked with Philip and Andrew and also those who did conversions of their games. The book will therefore have a good compliment of memoirs from colleagues, programmers, artists and musicians who helped the Twin's.
The guys over Yolkfolk.com will also be contributing to the book. They are supplying many community maps that will adjourn double page spreads as well as contributing to a feature on their unique community.
Signed Framed Fantastic Dizzy - only 40, and numbered
Sealed Wonderland Dizzy Boxed NES Game
Only 50 GREY and 50 WHITE versions of these will ever be made and they are exclusive to this Kickstarter (if the demand on the campaign is high, then the number available could be increased).
Get yourself a copy of Wonderland Dizzy how it's meant to be played i.e. on a NES. The game will come in a sealed NES box with artwork on the front and back - inside will be a poster, the cart (labelled) and instructions. Why not get yourself 2 copies - keep one sealed and play the other. These will be a huge collectible for the retro gamer as the game was never released - with kind permission from Codemasters and The Oliver Twins we can give it as a perk on the campaign.

Risks and challenges
The aim is to release the book in the Summer of 2016 - with the experience of producing 'The History of Ocean Software' and 'The story of US Gold' and the series of ZX Spectrum books produced, the task of producing this book to time, quality and budget should not be an issue.
The task of creating 'The story of the Oliver Twins' will be costly and time consuming - the cost primarily represents the printing of such a high quality book. We aim to produce 1,000 books in total - I need therefore to ensure we raise sufficient funds to produce these books and that they can be be sent out to those who bid in the UK for free.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
