With issue 99 of Crash Magazine being delivered to the Spectrum loving community in December 2017 in the form of an annual, it would be rude not to take this fantastic publication to Issue 100 in collaboration with Future Publishing, and wish Crash a massive happy 100th birthday!
The feedback from the 2018 annual was, and continues to be, overwhelming. Many backers received their publication in the early weeks of December last year; loved ones took the package from the postman, wrapped it up and then put it under the tree to be opened on Christmas morning, warning that peeking was not allowed. A number of annuals were reported missing only to magically re-appear before Christmas lunch on the 25th Dec!
The cover was kept a big surprise. We will try and do that again for issue 100.
The annual will be hardback and come in at 120 pages and will be in full colour throughout. We have decided to keep the cover a surprise once again so that when the book arrives on your doorstep in early December this year, it will be the first time a reader of the annual will have seen it.
Roger has agreed to take the helm once more as the editor and Oli will be in charge of the graphical style of the issue as well as creating a brand new cover in the style of the early issues of Crash.
Lloyd Mangram had nothing better to do, so he has agreed to come on board once again to answer reader's letters and will be encouraging you, the backers, to send them in for him to read and select the best ones that will appear in print.
Nick Roberts will once again be taking up his old slot of 'Nick Roberts' Playing Tips', this time writing and layout the section out himself. Here is the tips section from the Crash 2018 Annual:
Stuart Williams's will be taking up the Adventure Trail section as seen here in the Crash 2018 Annual:
And Simon Goodwin will now head up the Tech Niche section of the site, just like he did back in the day!
There will be a brand new JETMAN comic strip - illustrated by Oli with the story written by Roger:
There will also be over 30 game reviews of all the latest, greatest, and not so greatest games that have appeared on the Spectrum over the last number of years.
Here are some example layouts that can be found in the new 2019 annual:
A never-released-anywhere-else Spectrum game written as a passion project by one of the developers behind the PS4 title "Oure". This game is a standalone prequel that features it's own gameplay and narrative unique to Sinclair's 48k machine, and you'll be able to read about the trails and triumphs of how it was made in the development diary appearing inside the pages of Crash 100.
This is the WIP cover - which may change.

Risks and challenges
The aim is to release the annual in December 2018 - with the experience of producing 'The History of Ocean Software' and 'The story of US Gold' and the series of ZX Spectrum books produced, the task of producing this annual to time, quality and budget should not be an issue.
The task of creating Crash Annual will be costly and time consuming - the cost primarily represents the printing of such a high quality book. We need to produce 2,500 annuals in total - I need therefore to ensure we raise sufficient funds to produce the product.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
