My name is Josh Burleson, and I am the author and illustrator of a children's book titled "My Brother's Lion." The story is about a young boy whose best friend is a magical stuffed lion that comes to life at night. Together they take on an epic adventure to repair a broken constellation. Along the way they learn about responsibility, friendship, and loss.
My wife and I married very young and were eager to start our family, so we decided to get pregnant right away. In anticipation of our first child's arrival, my wife purchased him a tiny stuffed lion from the little boutique shop where we worked.
On April 27th, 2003 our firstborn son came into this world. Unfortunately, he was born with a bacterial infection and the following afternoon he quietly left this life while being cradled in his Mothers arms.
A little over a decade later, we had our second son Noah. My wife had just been accepted into graduate school at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and just like that, I became a stay-at-home Dad.
Eventually, our youngest son inherited his big brother's stuffed lion, and the small toy became his constant bedtime companion. Like many toddlers, he sometimes had trouble falling asleep, and as the nights grew longer, I began to create stories for him. I would tell him about his big brother's magical stuffed lion that would come to life at night and together they would travel across magical worlds and have fantastic adventures.
As my youngest son grew and started having nightmares, the stuffed lion became a symbol of courage and strength. I began to realize that my long deceased son was being given life through my stories and that I had a chance to share that life with others.
On April 27th, 2016 I posted concept art for a children's book named "My Brother's Lion" on Facebook. I was overcome with support and received many requests to get the story published so other's could enjoy it.
Over the last two years, I have dedicated every spare hour to creating that book. All but a few of the illustrations and most of the text are complete. I'm now asking for your financial support in getting the book edited and published.
I have a single stretch goal. If the Kickstarter exceeds its goal amount, I would like to give my volunteer marketing director, Christina Morrison a surprise gift. Her dedication and hard work have been instrumental in bringing this project to life.
If the Kickstarter far exceeds its goal amount I will seriously consider developing an application for mobile devices around the "My Brother's Lion" universe.
Your support is such a blessing. I find myself struggling to express how grateful I am. We live in a fast-paced world where everyone's schedule is tight, so I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate your taking the time to look over the project. If you like the Kickstarter, please consider sharing this page with your friends on social media.
I'm so excited for your children to hold this book in their hands and discover the heartfelt and magical adventure that's waiting for them. It's time to let out the lion.
