What is Pi-Cubes
Pi Cubes is modular DIY/Hobby HVAC Automation system based on the Raspberry Pi Linux Board.
System is designed on the principles that commercial Building/HVAC automation systems are designed, only leveraged down to the Hobby/DIY market.
Pi-Cubes provides a complete solution by using Raspberry Pi to control your home HVAC system in any complexity. You may control your Furnace, Boilers, Humidifiers, Air Handler Units, Dampers, Valves and any other HVAC equipment.
Pi-Cubes may be used not just for HVAC automation, with choice of different I/O boards you may control your garage door, garden sprinklers and anything else that could be automated.
Raspberry Pi provides a wide range of programming options, from Python, Node JS, C/C++ and all kind of existing control frameworks. One of supported control framework is and the Rex Control System.
We are working on Node-RED support for Pi-Cubes, Node-Red is going to be official programming tool for Pi-Cubes.
Primary we will deliver our SDK trough Snappy Apps and Ubuntu-Core to make installation very simple.
Pi-Cubes Main Board
Basic component of the system is Pi-Cubes Main Board, the motherboard of the system. The Raspberry PI B+/2 is mounted on this board and safely attached on spacers with screws.The main board has integrated 24VDC power supply, integrated RTC, Super Capacitor Backup, RS485 based communication jack for the thermostats and an extension port for I/O modules.
I/O Pi-Cubes Modules
The main board supports up to six additional I/O modules connected to the extension port, the total of up to 24 I/O points are supported. Modular design provides easy way to mix I/O modules to create your custom automation solution. Available I/O Modules are:
• DO4 Output module - provides four relay outputs, with maximum current 2A and voltage 24V AC/DC.
• UI4 Input module - provides four universal inputs, selectable as analog, resistive or digital input.
• UO4 Output module - provides four universal outputs , selectable as analog or digital output.
Pi-Cubes Communication Thermostat
Pi Cubes Communication Thermostat provides professional solution for your room, configurable to provide specific solution for chosen HVAC system. It may act as only a room temperature sensor or room thermostat with set point, it may show actual time, weather icon, HVAC mode icon , occupancy icon and fan icon. Up to four thermostats may be connected to one Pi Cubes Main board using RJ45 Cables, providing power and communication through one cable.
Thermostat may be used with any board that supports RS485/Modbus RTU with RJ45 Adapter board, one example is Arduino.
Pi-Cubes Furnace Example
One of the possible applications is furnace control, in this case we have single stage cooling/heating furnace.

We will be offering limited number of Beta Pi Cubes.
There are a lot of possible combinations that Pi Cubes may be ordered and in order to simplify we will only offer Main Board and up to two I/O modules. Once Kickstarter campaign is completed additional modules will be available for purchase on our web page. Before shipping we will ask backers to choose I/O modules.

We are running this campaign to help us manufacture first beta run of the controllers. All funds collected will be used only for covering a part of the manufacturing cost.
