About this project
Saori Weaving "Beauty Without Intentions"
Loop of the Loom studio owned by Yukako Satone is located in NYC. It is hosting a collaboration between autistic weavers in Japan with Fashion Designers in NYC. These Japanese weavers are part of a non profit organization Saori Hiroba. We are hoping to make this collaboration possible with your help!
Creative Mind, Gentle Soul
Loop of the Loom is the only SAORI hand-weaving studio which introduces the award winning SAORI method for children and adults as a mindful zen weaving™. SAORI is a ZEN art of weaving from Japan that is dedicated to free expression and self-development. Loop of the Loom has the pleasure of introducing this easy-to-learn form of, what we like to call, "happy weaving" and unique craft classes using fibers from mother nature.
WHAT WE NEED
In order to make this event happen, we need funding for the following:
- Paying for the gallery space
- Purchasing the weavings from Japan- These weavings are very special and must pay for import tax and fees!
- Getting the word out there about the event
- Supplies for the gallery show (Mannequins, video projection, etc)
- Materials for 15 designers to create garments for the show
- Pay for 3 Musicians performances during the show! (African drum players!!)
Inspired through the experience of living, the art of SAORI encourages self expression, personal growth and healing. SAORI lets us celebrate the beauty of our imperfections by weaving differing colors, threads and textures into a fabric that reflects the masterpiece of our own humanity. Our goal is not to teach, but to lead people to explore themselves through SAORI Weaving Arts.
Local fashion designers in the U.S. will be paired up with one Saori weaver with autism in Japan and create a garment for our gallery event in April. The proceeds from this event will be put towards creating a Saori weaving non profit organization where textiles making will be a form of art therapy for all.

Risks and challenges
Each reward is handcrafted in our studio in NYC. Some pieces are made per pledge. If we reach our goal earlier than the required completion date (Jan. 7th, 2015!) then you may be able to receive your rewards earlier!! Perhaps even before Christmas time!
Every Saori woven piece is handwoven and is one of a kind. No two weavings are alike, as well as the gifts and creations made from them. Please keep in mind the rewards you will receive will vary and differ somewhat from the images displayed.
Overall color choices for some gifts can be made (specified in Rewards section of our Story). For garments, general measurements can be made accordingly.
Washing will change items fairly drastically. Handle with care. All woven materials will vary and include the following materials: Cotton, Silk, Wool, Acrylic Wool, Acetate.
Items will be shipped via USPS. International shipments are responsible for import tax as well as any additional fees or information that is required.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
