Trio Flux is set to record our next record with your help! Two years has passed since we released our debut album and we are ready to do another. With two years of writing, playing, and rehearsing under our belts, it is time that we look to you, our fans, friends, and supporters, for the help we need to make this recording project a reality. This project has it all: great writing, powerful grooves, a wide variety of sonic textures, and above all else intense improvisational interaction! All that is missing is your support.
The new recording features Trio Flux at its best, performing intricate arrangements that have evolved over many rehearsals and live performances, and featuring a supporting cast of strong local talent. In addition to the core trio of Neil Mattson (compositions, guitars), Julio Appling (bass), and Adam Ochshorn (drums, percussion), we brought in a few of our favorite local musicians to round out the sound on a few cuts: premier Portland-based pianist Andrew Oliver, journeyman tenor saxophonist Marc Hutchinson (Darrell Grant, The Chris Baum Project), and the exceptional James M. Gregg aka "West Riding" (Bureau of Standards Big Band, the James Gregg Quintet) on trumpet. Last but not least, award-winning blues guitarist Mary Flower graces this record with a musical cameo on one very special track...
Once this project is successfully funded we can get back to work mixing and mastering the CD and getting it mailed to you. We have already spent time in the studio recording the songs, but this was just the first step. The music sounds amazing but must be mixed with the help of our producer Riley Geare (The Tomorrow People) and sound engineer Rob Stroup (Baseboard Heaters, The Imprints) at 8 Ball Studio in Portland, Oregon.
Everyone is excited about how great the tracks are sounding, and we can't wait to get the tracks sounding even better. After mixing and mastering comes the design and duplication of the CD itself. We are honored to feature the work of Elizabeth Mattson on the CD cover. Elizabeth has already drawn and inked the cover design, and it's beautiful!
Your contribution will help cover the costs of studio time, our production team, side musicians, mixing, mastering, duplication, art, cd design, video, and photography. In addition to our heartfelt gratitude, we offer a variety of “perks” appropriate to your giving level including: signed CD, high-quality digital download, signed CD release posters, a signed manuscript of a song from the record, VIP passes to the CD release party, limited edition prints of the album art signed by the artist, music lessons, bike tune-ups, guided hikes, a chili cook-off in your honor, a house concert in your home, and more!
If this is your first time supporting a kickstarter project, it's important to note that we must meet or exceed our goal by the deadline in order for us to receive funding. It’s an all or nothing affair! So please help us to spread the word! Tell your friends, family, colleagues, and anyone else you think might like to be involved with this project, because if we don’t meet our goal, we get nothing!
Risks and challenges
Without funding the record will remain unfinished and the efforts of so
many talented people who have come together to make this CD happen
will not see all their work come to fruition, a sad state for a record with such potential. We have all hands ready to get back to work to finish this project and get the CD and other rewards to you. If you're unable to back the project with a pledge, please consider sharing this with others via word-of-mouth and social media.
