Most of the videos and pictures show a combination of prototypes. I spent 5 yrs of play testing and revising before having the professional prototype made by Metropolis Design and Prototyping.
They produced the Professional Prototype and tweaked it to perfection. After which they produced the CAD Drawings for Manufacturing. The graphics have been produced by a series of professionals that I’ve known for years and you can see and judge them based on the quality of the work produced herein.
The Game Includes the Following:
- 1 Rule Book
- 3 Boundary Lines
- 6 Metal Pegs
- 1 Measuring Device
- 10 ships: 5 per side(2 Aircraft Carriers, 1 Battleships, and 2 Cruisers.)
- 4 Balls (Water Filled Bocce Balls)
- 4 Obstacles: 2 per side (Wooden Posts)
Lawn Battleship has been a long-term dream. Years ago on a whim, I attended a board game inventing group. I really enjoyed play testing the games and being part of the inventing and refining process...so I started brainstorming my own ideas. I recalled a college friend who hosted a party where we played a game she invented called 3-D twister. We ended up playing it for hours. This led me to explore existing board games that I could possibly bring to life in the great outdoors. My ideas resulted in Lawn Battleship. I then sat down with my wife, a piece of cardboard, a pair of scissors and made my first prototype. My in-laws were kind enough to play the first version, and it was successful enough that I made a second prototype out of triple corrugated cardboard, piano wire and duct tape. More and more family and friends played the game, but when my nephew asked if he could keep the game for Christmas...Lawn Battleship moved from hobby to passion. I made the third garage-prototype of sturdier materials which allowed us to play test, change rules and tweak for over two years. After a while my wife agreed to have a professional prototype made as long as it counted as my mid-life crisis. I happily agreed and invested in a professional prototype, which you can now see on Kickstarter.
First: I’ll use the funds to make the actual games, purchase needed equipment and produce plastic molds to enable a 1st production run, which I'll distribute back out to all patron’s for their enjoyment.
$5000 -Plastic Injection Molds
$250 -Table Saw
$250 - Rope Cutter

Kick Starter is ALL or NOTHING. Your credit cards will be charged at the end of the duration and only if I reach the goal. If we are able to raise $24,999 and not the full $25,000 I won't get one single cent. Now, Kickstarter is more than just raising funds. It's about reaching for a dream and pursuing a passion. This is my passion and I would hope that if you have a similar passion that you would share in the process of bringing Lawn Battleship to life.

Risks and challenges
Timing: The timing is a major risk due to the fact that plastic injection molds/tooling will need to be created at 1st which can take 12 to 16 Weeks. In order to address this issue I've partnered with a local outdoor plastic production facility to help expedite and synchronize the process. Using their resources for mold production and for the final production run allow me to coordinate production so that once the molds are finished we can go straight into the production of the ships.
Experience: I've been in Marketing and Finance but have never manufactured/produced a product. However, I've assembled team members with various specialties in wire, plastics and production to help facilitate the project. I've produced and tested professional prototypes of the ships to ensure quality, functionality and an esthetics so that Lawn Battleship is a shelf ready game.
Personal Portion of the Manufacturing Process: I anticipate that I’ll be producing the following: wooden stakes, boundary lines, rule book as well as the measuring device. The stakes are produced out of dowels that are cut at an angle to produce a wedge so the stakes penetrate the ground. The boundary lines are made of plastic rope that are cut at the appropriate length. The measuring device is a different colored rope measured and cut to the official length of the play area. The rule book will come complete with written rules and graphics in order to quickly and simply explain the ins and outs of Lawn Battleship.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
