What do Roger Moore, Sean Connery and The iQ have in common? They’re sharp and get the job done when necessary, yet clean up handsomely with their understated and timeless aesthetic.
With its modern design and rugged construction, The iQ is a flipper to take on the everyday. This sleek EDC knife handles tasks like a beast yet is aesthetically refined like a gentleman. This is your go everywhere, for everyone, everyday knife designed to take around town....
The iQ flipper knife is inspired by the traditional Japanese Higo knife, which has stood the test of time with its no-bull construction and elegant lines. Fortunately, the story doesn’t end there. I’ve spent the past year cranking out prototypes, identifying areas to improve, and returning to the drawing board to finally arrive the design you see here.
The iQ is distinct for its simplicity. The clean lines of the iQ’s scales (handle) create a sleek look. When closed, the blade is completely recessed into the body, which gives it a slim silhouette. When open, the straight lines of the scales smoothly transition into the spine and edge of the blade. Along the body you will see 2 fasteners and Quiet Carry’s signature marks —making for a clean look with minimal parts. Modern, visually pleasing, and utilitarian; the iQ is what you’ve come to expect from the Quiet Carry brand.
We set out to build an EDC knife that is sleek that still possesses the functional features that would survive and thrive everyday. To keep the scales lightweight yet strong, we’ve used grade 5 titanium with a carbon fiber inlay. The result is an ultralight knife that weighs in at 2.2 ounces. The body is ultra-slim with a contoured handle that feels ergonomic in your hand to generate the leverage you’ll need for cutting, slicing, and scoring tasks.
To solidify its role as your preferred EDC knife, we’ve designed a beautifully milled deep-carry pocket clip that rides low for discreet carry while still preventing pocket wear. It’s the perfect knife for those that prefer to travel swiftly without much weighing down and jangling around their pocket.
Black Handle, Blade and clip
The black handle, clip, and blade are PVD coated. It is a vapor process coating which nearly becomes part of the titanium. It is hard and has excellent abrasive wear resistance. It will never flake off.

- Body Length: 3.7 inches
- Open Length: 6.6 inches

- Steel: Japanese VG10 Stainless Steel (V Gold)
- Body Type: Grade 5/6AL 4V Titanium
- Hardware: 416 Stainless Steel
- Pivot: Caged Ceramic Bearings
- Weight: 2.2 oz
We’ve used vacuum heat-treated VG10 stainless steel—a premium steel designed specifically for knife blades. This Japanese steel is some tough stuff and is known for its superior edge retention, ability to withstand rust, and sheer durability.
The iQ’s blade comes with a flat grind, a sharp beveled edge, and a blade thickness that is suited for thin slicing. The first half of the blade (that is closer to the pivot) is straight for clean downward cuts and push cuts. The half of the blade towards the tip rounds out for a little bit of belly, which excels in rocking and slicing tasks. It is designed with a strong tip area and a lower point, which is excellent for scoring. Overall, the iQ shapes up to be a very controllable and extremely effective cutting blade.
The tang of the VG10 blade protrudes from the spine of the handle and is used as a lever to flip out (flipper) the blade for easy one-handed operation. To ensure a crisp and satisfying flick, we’ve put a lot of time into perfecting the pivot area which utilizes caged bearings for some smooth action.
To ensure that you can use the iQ for real cutting, slicing, and scoring tasks, we’ve equipped this knife with an effective locking system. The iQ utilizes a lock bar insert to prevent wear and ensure a crisp and reliable lockup.
The Function & Practicality
Our goal with the iQ was to marry understated and elegant aesthetics with the practical features expected of an EDC knife. After countless refinements, we’re confident that we’ve accomplished our goal: a compact, rugged, functional knife with a refined touch. Use the iQ to tear through twine, slice up an apple, and make short work of delivered packages.
With its compactness and discreet deep pocket clip, this is a knife so discreet that it seems to only be there when you reach for it. The iQ is as satisfying to use as it is handy, and you’ll quickly realize how essential the knife is in your everyday. What’s more, the iQ is quite the looker.
Every corner and surface has been meticulously machined with top quality finishes. The 416 stainless steel pivot, VG10 blade steel, caged bearings, milled pocket clip, and hardened steel lock bar insert allows for a lifetime of use.
These knives are exceptionally made with tight tolerances, which demands more time, skill, and precision to make them. This is not our first knife, and we are not jumping on any new knife trends. This is what we love, and this is what we do. We take our time and do not rush our products. We combine simple clean design while excelling in function.
Here at Quiet Carry, we’re proud of our work, and we never settle for anything less than the best. We’re so confident that our knives will serve you and serve you well that every Quiet Carry knife comes with a lifetime warranty.
We are humble yet proud of our products, and we’re glad that those of you that have your own Quiet Carry knives love them too. Here is what our supporters have to say about our products:
an Jelinek on December 21, "Received both of my knives and I’m highly impressed with the craftsmanship, superb fit and finish. This is the kind of quality tool that becomes part of you. I don’t leave the house now without one of them, have been using them in the field on my job daily. Great job!"
Mike Ryan on December 16, "Bryce, The Strand arrived today. It is everything I was expecting. The design is classic and the quality is such that it rivals much more expensive knives. To you and your family Bryce merry Christmas and thank you. To those folks who have not received their knives yet, be patient the wait is worth it."
David Dilworth on December 13, "Satin West just arrived. Wow, this is a great little knife. Fit and finish is awesome, and the design is such a nice hybrid of traditional and modern. This is going in my coin pocket daily."
TONY NIVICKI on August 27, "I'm an extremely satisfied customer of Quiet Carry for the 4th time. Beyond happy with my new Q2s and Shorty. Great products and exceptional customer service. Keep up the great work Bryce and I look forward to any new projects. Thanks Again. TONY"
Mark "HoverDonkey" "Craig on April 23, "Received mine today and was immediately impressed by the quality. Obsessively opened and closed it for a couple of hours whilst watching TV, the action was so satisfying! By no means cheap, but I'm confident that it will last for decades - really well constructed item, made with well specced materials. Not only that, but it was manufactured, shipped and delivered well in advance of my expectations! Thanks!"
Yair Gal on April 16, "My two arrived today. Nicely made and well finished. Opened and closed the thing for 10 minutes to enjoy the positive action which feels just right - what you expect in a full sized folder just smaller... Spyderco Bug removed from my keychain and replaced with this knife. The Bug is much smaller and rounder, with a similar sized blade in a smaller package, but nowhere near as cool. Good job guys!"
Finishes - Stone Washed, Semi-Satin Grey, Black PVD
This project has been challenging in a good way. It takes more skill and time to machine this type of knife. We have spent over a year making prototypes, trying different bearing systems, and ultimately tweaking the pivot area to keep the iQ thin and lightweight. We have experimented with different machining processes not only to get the tolerances we needed but also to maintain cost and time effectiveness. We have learned that with time and patience our vision will come together, and it goes without saying that a lot of work went into getting the iQ just right. Function, beauty, and value...

Risks and challenges
The funds raised from Kickstarter will allow me to create The iQ on a larger scale and offer it to the public at an affordable price. But I need your help to do it!
Everything needed to kick off the manufacturing process is complete. The design and prototyping is done and all materials are in place. It’s just a matter of giving the factory the green light once the project is complete and funded.
I have worked closely with my machinist and manufacturers for some time now and have built a strong working relationship. My manufacturer is ready to go and delivery dates are set.
I am excited to get The iQ in your hand so you can feel and experience the quality for yourself and add one to your everyday carry.
The only delay I foresee happening is if there are an extensive amount of backers that would add additional time to the delivery date.
Thank you for your support,
