What is Cullector?
Cullector is the most efficient and user friendly shower this world has ever seen. It gives you total control over all of the major waste issues found in typical showers and saves you water, energy and money. Cullector is also great for the environment and provides a range of additional features to enhance your showering experience.
Cullector is super easy to install.
Five easy steps to get you saving sooner. Cullector is an easy DIY installation. It's powered by water pressure and no plumber or electrician is required.
Cullector collects the fresh water normally wasted during warm up time and helps you avoid getting splashed!
During warm up time the cold water that is normally lost to the drain is diverted to the reservoir. A small amount of the incoming water is allowed to escape from the rose. This lets you monitor the temperature of the incoming water from within the shower and without getting splashed or scalded. As soon as the water is the correct temperature switch on and commence showering.
Cullector uses the collected water to create a stronger fuller flow.
Cullector uses a venturi effect to mix the collected water into the shower stream. By the time your shower is finished all of the collected water has been used.
Cullector lets you pause the shower to soap up and shampoo without needing to readjust taps.
Pausing the shower to soap up and shampoo. Sometimes referred to as a military or navy shower, this technique saves an enormous amount of water and energy. Using Cullector to pause your shower eliminates the need to readjust your taps when you switch back on to rinse.
Cullector reminds you when it is time to finish up.
It's great watching the water being collected and used. When the reservoir becomes fully drained a small amount of air is drawn into the shower stream to create a gentle pulse. This reminds you when it's time to finish up.
Cullector aromatherapy shower.
Simply add a few drops of your favourite essential oil, perfume or moisturiser to the reservoir for a beautiful aromatherapy shower. Warm water is constantly returned to the reservoir to keep the oils evenly mixed. This also raises the temperature of the water in the bottle to eliminate any spike in temperature when the bottle becomes fully drained.
Cullector set and forget option.
Cullector takes control of your taps. When you have finished your shower simply turn the Cullector off. Your main taps can be left set to your preferred temperature ready for the next shower. Warning! This option is not recommended if your hot and cold taps are not the same pressure, such as where a gravity fed hot water service is in use. If in doubt please contact your local plumber.
Cullector is built to last a life time.
Mechanism. The Cullector mechanism is milled from DR (dezincification resistant) Brass, Chrome plated and finished to the highest possible standards.
Shower Head. The Cullector shower rose and heavy duty swivel ball are milled from DR (dezincification resistant) brass, chrome plated and finished to the highest possible standards. The spray diffuser is made from easy to clean, corrosion proof and calcium resistant ABS.
Reservoir. The Cullector reservoir is made from a transparent, light weight household detergent and abrasive resistant plastic. The chosen plastic has been proving it's worth over many years as a safe packaging material for foodstuffs and exceeds all requirements for showers and bathroom fittings and fixtures.
WaterMark is a product quality certification mark provided by independent certifying authorities. It confirms that the product complies with the requirements of the Plumbing Code of Australia and the specifications listed in relevant Australian Standards. These relate to the quality of the product, including aspects of health and safety, and warrant that it is fit for purpose. Cullector™ will need to be tested for WaterMark certification.
WELS The Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards Scheme provides for mandatory water efficiency labelling and minimum water efficiency standards for specified water using products. Cullector™ is a WELS registered product. Tested in accordance with AS/NZS 6400. License number 1210

My story and why I need your help
My name is Peter Cullin and I am the inventor of the Cullector.
In 2006 when Australia was in the grip of its worst drought in living memory I became acutely aware of how fragile and utterly dependent our society and the natural environment are on water. I also felt compelled to try and do something to help conserve this precious commodity. I began by researching domestic water consumption and identified the bathroom and more specifically the shower as the most wasteful area in a dwelling.
It also soon became obvious that the problem was a global one. Every minute of every day, in hundreds of millions of homes around the world quality fresh drinking water was being wasted due to inefficient showers.
I discovered that global water consumption rates are so high that surface water is shrinking at an alarming rate and groundwater reserves are depleting much faster than they can be replenished. By 2020 the World Water Council believes we will need 17% more water than is available to supply the world.
It was clear to me that even though millions of people were painfully aware of the impact they were having upon our planets fragile environment they lacked the tools or resources to do anything about it.
So began the quest to create, from scratch, a new type of shower that would overcome the major waste problems inherent in typical showers.
I founded Cullin Innovation Pty Ltd in 2006 with the aim of developing and commercialising a new type of shower that would overcome all of waste issues found in typical showers.

It has taken eight years to bring the project from an idea to this point on the road to commercialisation but on that journey I have been fortunate enough to have received a Federal Government grant from AusIndustry, win the Queensland Government What’s Your Big Idea Award, win the ABC New Inventors Episode Award, be voted number 20 in the Anthill Smart 100 Awards and be granted full Australian and US patents.

The end result is a multi award winning ultra efficient shower that combines several water saving features into one simple solution. It’s self-powered and provides a quality showering experience that saves water, saves money and reduces green house gas emissions. Its trade marked the Cullector™ and it’s an easy Do It Yourself installation that simply replaces your existing shower.
Installing the Cullector™ in as few as 1,000 family homes could save as much as 200 million litres of water per year - equivalent to 80 Olympic sized pools.

Bringing a new plumbing product to the market is no easy task and to get started we need to manufacture a minimum of 500 units. We also need to tool up for the mechanism body, create a new part for the hand held version and have Cullector tested at an accredited laboratory to achieve the mandatory WaterMark and WELS standards. Not to mention shipping, transport, warehousing and dispatch. We have put $280,000 into the project so far but to get it over the line we need your help.

Risks and challenges
Challenge 1. Manufacture. The Cullector mechanism needs to be manufactured to a high level of precision so the integrated venturi can operate at full capacity. The key component is the mechanism body. Firstly we need to make a mold for casting the brass blanks and then a 5 axis CNC milling machine needs to be set up to mill them precisely. This will ensure all of the other components align correctly. We expect there to be a few challenges in setting up the manufacturing process and there is potential for cost blowouts and delays.
Challenge 2. Standards. To legally sell the Cullector in Australia WELS now require mandatory WaterMark certification before registration. This is a good thing as it ensures all showers sold in Australia are water efficient and safe. However it still presents us with another challenge. To comply with WaterMark, Cullector needs to be lab tested for water flow rate, temperature drop, temperature stability, spray pattern and an optional test for comfort and effectiveness. I am sure we will pass with flying colours but nothing is set in stone and there is potential for extra cost and delays.
Challenge 3. Logistics. Our manufacturing partners are based in China and even though sea freight to Australia is safe, efficient and generally straight forward international shipping does give rise to potential risks and delays.
Bringing a new invention into the world requires determination, resilience and resourcefulness and you can rest assured that no matter what obstacles remain hidden on the road to successfully bringing the Cullector to the market they will be overcome.
