What is Comic Chameleon?
More than 100 of the best online comics are published on Comic Chameleon, the only webcomics app where every single strip/page is prepared for you to read panel by panel, for an amazing viewing experience on mobile devices, and all with the artists' full support!
Comic Chameleon is already available for iOS (download it here for free!) and is enjoyed by thousands of comics fans every day, who are treated to such mega-hits as:
- Questionable Content, by Jeph Jacques!
- Girls with Slingshots, by Danielle Corsetto!
- Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal, by Zach Weiner!
- XKCD, by Randall Munroe!
- Dinosaur Comics, by Ryan North!
- ... and a whole lot more! Check out our full (growing) roster!
It's time for Android
After searching far and wide for the right developer to bring Comic Chameleon to Android, we've finally found our man! His name is Steven, and he's got the chops, and the same passion, and the love for webcomics that we have!
But we need your help to make it happen! If we hit our goal, Steven gets paid, and YOU get the app! At this point, we're targeting the middle of 2015 for an official launch to the Google Play store!
iOS USERS, YEAH I'M TALKIN TO YOU: this campaign is for you too! Because our Rewards and Stretch Goals are heavily geared towards BOTH Android and iOS platforms, and...
10% of the campaign will go to the artists of your choice
If you care about supporting independent webcomic artists as much as we do, you'll be happy to know that when you contribute to our campaign, 10% of your pledge will go to up to 3 artists of your choice who publish with our app. We've always been as much about supporting artists as we've been about entertaining you, and our Kickstarter is no different.
1. GREAT DEALS ON PREMIUM ACCESS SUBSCRIPTIONS!
With a pledge of $6 or more, you get a great deal on a premium access subscription to BOTH the Android and iOS versions of our app! These subscriptions are discounted heavily just for this Kickstarter from what their rates ultimately will be, so this is definitely the time to get in!
With premium access, you get a completely ad-free experience, which you're going to want, because ads are just dumb. Unfortunately they're necessary in an otherwise free app, but you can avoid that noise and support our artists at the same time by going premium!
You also get whatever premium features we build in the future, including our planned Timeline View, which is one of our first Stretch Goals (see below).
Note that ad-free premium access will not be available for iOS until a to-be-determined point after this campaign ends. It will not be available for the Android app until that app is officially launched, mid-2015.
2. GET A PRE-RELEASE VERSION OF THE APP!
Can't wait until the app is officially launched? With a pledge of $20 or more, you get a working alpha version of the Android app in January, just over a month after this campaign ends! It'll have bugs, and there'll be months' worth of polish left to go before it's available to the public, but it'll do the job, i.e. you'll be able to land that sweet Comic Chameleon reading experience on your Android phone before you know it. And you'll get all subsequent pre-release updates too!
Lastly, we've got all kinds of booty, including signed books from Jennie Breeden (The Devil's Panties) and Brad Guigar (Evil Inc.), personal sketches from KC Green (Gunshow), Katie Tiedrich (Awkward Zombie) and Sam Logan (Sam & Fuzzy), and original strip art from Danielle Corsetto (Girls with Slingshots) that they've generously made available for us to offer as special perks to you, so be sure to check out the full list!
Who are we?
Bernie Hou is the creator of the webcomic Alien Loves Predator and does everything that Jason doesn't do. He's the lead singer and bass guitarist for the King's X cover band Chefs of the Future.
Jason Gresh is Comic Chameleon's iOS app programmer and does everything that Bernie doesn't do. He's the lead guitarist for the King's X cover band Chefs of the Future.
Risks and challenges
Our Android developer, Steven, is a seasoned developer with vast experience creating mobile apps, and building Comic Chameleon for Android is right in his wheelhouse. Should something wacky happen where he's unable to finish the project, he's agreed to share his code with us so that we could have another developer see it through from where it was left off.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
