About this project
Rise of the Terrorized ~ Sitting on Top of the World http://youtu.be/GjNiEA0GEt0
Jezo and Aehlex have been best friends ever since they met in Venice CA in 1999. They are both lead singers. Jezo was the lead singer/mastermind behind Spitfire America. She does still perform when the opportunity arises. The term Spitfire does little justice in describing Jezo who at times can sound like a female Tom Waits :) Jezo is from Brooklyn, she is a real New Yorker. Aehlex comes from music royalty and is a true Hollywood, CA native. They both have deep unique voices and natural talent so they should not have been surprised to find performing together a fun and magical experience. They naturally and almost immediately began to collaborate on an album. The music is a mix of Funk, Soul, Metal and Rock N Roll. Some songs are more Funk and Soul based Rock while other songs are mostly Rock and Metal.
"It's got a little bit of everything... soul, funk, heavy metal, a little bit of everything." Jezo
Here is a great article written about Jezo in the SoHo Journal
Jezo is an amazing song writer. Aehlex is great at writing hooks and poetry, her dad, CP, was also an amazing song writer (not to mention a Motown Legend). He passed away 18 years ago, leaving Aehlex with a legacy of hundreds of incredible songs.
The first original song that Jezo and Aehlex worked on together was by chance recorded at a professional studio because Jezo's friend "K" (and Aehlex's roommate at the time), owned a recording studio in Santa Monica, CA. One day "K" gave the pair an unexpected free recording session. The only problem.. no guitar player on such short notice. So Jezo ran down to the 3rd St. Promenade and grabbed some scruffy lookin guy playing guitar on the street. The end result was the very first Rise of the Terrorized song titled 'Comin up short'. It has a really cool and different sound. Very soulful heavy rock. The song has yet to be completed. (Unfortunately it’s currently stuck on a cassette tape otherwise it would have been made available for all to hear (may become a bonus track on the album).
Since then Jezo and Aehlex remain busy surviving on separate sides of the country, sharing songs, vocals and ideas via snail mail and the internet when possible. Jezo continues to play shows on the East Coast. Aehlex has recently played at a charity event and live webcast shows in Los Angeles with a seven piece band and some famous musicians.
Getting Aehlex & Jezo back in a studio together to physically work on and record this album once and for all is the main goal. The band intends to continue recording in Los Angeles and hopefully in New York as well, where they also plan to perform shows and film the first music video from Rise of the Terrorized.
We want to make a great album with lots of songs. We spoke to a big wig at an exclusive studio. He was more than happy to welcome us in to record there and we would be over the moon if we get that opportunity.
Eventually we would love to make a very fun and creative music video for our first single. Even with a small budget, getting a great crew together here in Los Angeles is easy. We already know who to call. Music videos are important promotional tools and we can't wait to get started. However we may have to start a separate kickstarter for the video after the album has been funded.
We need to pay an artist to design a new Rise of the Terrorized logo and we need to license art work for the album jacket. We will use this logo and artwork to create merchandise to be sold online and at our shows.
We need to manufacture physical cd's and we also want to hire a great PR company here in Los Angeles that we know well and trust.
Yes! We are planning a tour and we are stoked! We're definitely going to be doing shows in Los Angeles and New York. Eventually, we would like to tour all over the United States, Europe and many other places as well.
Risks and challenges
One of our biggest challenges is living life without making lots of music. The biggest challenge however is being 3,000 miles apart. Once the album/project is funded our biggest challenges will be easily overcome. Jezo is ready to record/film in New York and willing to jump on a plane or train back to L.A. to stay with Aehlex for a while during recording/filming. Aehlex is also ready to record/film in both Los Angeles & New York.
"Once Jezo and I are back in the same town together, I can't imagine there being any risk of us not working very hard on and completing this album. This is something we have been dying to do and working on for years. Having the ability to focus on making great music is all we really want to do. Always." ~Aehlex
