The story of a botanist who had a little accident and changed the world as we knew it.
BICYCLE DAY Lives!
They say "Third time's a charm," and we're really hoping they're right! Now that this is awkward, let's get to it!
Once upon a time in automobile-restricted Switzerland, a botanist named Albert Hofmann had a minor lab accident, and became the first to discover the psychoactive effects of LSD during a bicycle ride on April 19, 1943 that spawned an unofficial international holiday.
We at SOLANO PICTURES have the opportunity (again) to tell that story...
This time around, we've built a stellar crew, headed by a few of the most talented film technicians in New Mexico. When they aren't thinking about BICYCLE DAY, they're working on some little, run-of-the-mill, Emmy Award-winning, TV show called BREAKING BAD.
In addition, we've brought on JEREMY BARNES and HEATHER TROST of A HAWK AND A HACKSAW, and JOHN DIETERICH of DEERHOOF along with friends DRAKE HARDIN and ROSIE HUTCHINSON of Albuquerque's TEETOTUM-- collectively known as TAPERED -- to compose an original score and provide the music. They've generously agreed to spare some time for ol' Abbie while they're not busy touring the world. They're excited about it and we couldn't be more thrilled to have them on board.
:::WHO WE ARE:::
Stephen Turselli - Executive Producer/Writer/Director - This will be Stephen's 6th film, and most ambitious project yet. He can't wait to release his self-deemed "long-awaited" short film/music video Attack of the Babyzilla! and makes a mean lasagna. See some of his films and music videos here.
Andy Voegeli - Director of Photography - Bicycle Day will be Andy's second endeavor as a Cinematographer. However, his work as a camera operator can be seen everywhere, on your very TV set. Just pop on Netflix and choose an episode of Breaking Bad, 30 Rock, Running Wilde, or Rubicon among many others. His work on AMC's Breaking Bad won him Camera Operator of the Year at the Society of Camera Operators Lifetime Achievement Awards earlier this month.
Bryan P. Jones - Producer/Camera - Bryan has been shooting short films since 2009 and is excited to shoot this very unique story. He's especially thrilled to be working with a team of such talented professionals in so many different fields. See where Bryan's been here.
Joey Liew - Producer - Joey's been actively producing, directing, shooting and editing short films and music videos for 10 years. Many of his projects have premiered and won awards at film festivals across the nation.
Robert Jackson - Production Designer/Producer - A Set Dresser and independent Production Designer in New Mexico who's applied his brilliance to a slew of productions including AMC's Breaking Bad, USA's In Plain Sight, and the recent Arnold Schwarzenegger comeback, The Last Stand.
We are pleased to be working with the best grips in town, NMGrip, headed by Tyler Gendron, who is also an Associate Producer on the film. We'll also be enlisting the help of premier New Mexican sound artists Denielle and Andrejs Prokopenko of AreaTone Location Sound Services from Taos, NM.
Last, but certainly not least, we're super excited to be working with the powerhouse lighting rental company Serious Grippage and Light. Having won the first ever Serious Film Challenge, Solano Pictures was awarded a $1000 credit to get our production going.
:::WHAT IT IS:::
BICYCLE DAY is a fictionalized retelling of Dr. Albert Hofmann's story and famous LSD-induced bicycle ride, combining live action sequences with digital and hand drawn animations from animators all over the country. It's a home-grown, nation-spanning, locally-produced, mind-bending, eye-opening, trippy-good time of a film and the world must see it!!
In addition to bringing Dr. Hofmann's story to life, we've made it a goal to truly capture all the beauty that lies within the New Mexican borders. Our crew will be traveling to all 4 corners of the state in search for all that is beautiful, weird, and deserted.
All crew members are New Mexico locals, and every stage of production, from prep, all the way through principal photography, and post-production, will take place in New Mexico. Every dollar spent on this film will be spent in New Mexico. 100% Home grown and locally produced. New Mexico.
:::WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP:::
To make the best product, we've got the best involved. 50% of this film has been donated. Time, money, and resources. Everyone who's done so believes in the product we seek to create. We hope to raise the other 50% via this very Kickstarter. No one wants to work for free, and a lot of the people we have on board, WILL be working for free, willingly. We'd like to pay them back with a stipend for their resources and hard work. In addition, while we will be receiving donations from many local food sources, we'll still need a good bit of money to feed our hardworking crew. Two good meals for each crew member for 8 days, lots and lots and lots of water, and a few snacks -- healthy ones! -- and we got ourselves a crew that's happy to work for little pay. The last piece will go to gasoline, digital storage, and marketing fees -- festival submissions, DVD packaging, etc.
We feel that $5,000 is an achievable goal, and we believe that we can reach 5,000 people with a buck to spare. We'll give you a shout out on our Facebook Page if you do! Check out what you can get for a larger donation below!!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We know there will be bumps along the road, but this project started as something very tiny and bloomed into something big, and we haven't even shot any real footage yet. This is our third attempt at making this dream and reality, and we have more positive motivation than ever. With that motivation, we'll tackle any challenge that comes before us. We've made films with nothing, and we think, with a little something, we can make a film worth the risks involved. So take a risk on us. A liiiittle tiny $5 risk -- chump change! -- and you'll help make this dream a reality.
