MUSIC IS elemental, universal, instinctive--a mysterious pulse at the very heart of the human experience.
I am raising money to help fund the recording and producing of my first record of street musician recordings from around the world. First stop: Istanbul, Turkey. On September 15, 2013 I will be bringing some portable audio recording equipment to the historic city to record the music and sounds in the streets and produce a complied record of the result, available in downloadable and CD format.
Hi, I’m Michael Endrusick and I’m asking for your help with what I hope to be a first step on a journey of musical discovery from the streets of the world today. This specific venture is the hopeful beginnings of a joining of two things I cherish deeply...the experiencing of cultures and the appreciation of the incalculable amount of music they provide. More importantly, I want to share the sounds I hear with you.
Inspired by the likes of pioneering field recorder Alan Lomax and labels such as Folkways, Nonesuch Explorer and Sublime Frequencies, I have longed be able to do some "song catching" of my own for some time now.
On several trips in the past I've come across brilliant impromptu music played in public areas and cursed myself for not being able to properly record it and share it with others back home and beyond.
Why Istanbul first? Why not? An ancient city that has once been the capital of 4 empires...the Roman, Byzantine, Latin, and Ottoman. A city once at the western terminus of the legendary Silk Road. Europe... Asia... A stew of cultures resulting in exciting musical discoveries.
I have a contact or two in Istanbul already but will spend most of my time out on my own following my ears with the hopes of befriending musicians as I find them. I will do my best in all attempts at asking for recording permission and will be straightforward with my project goal.
With this Kickstarter you can help me by pledging support at any level to help me with the costs of making this record happen. I already have my plane tickets, passport and visa...so this is not an attempt to cover vacation costs. :)
Any money raised here will go directly towards the equipment needed to record the album and the materials and expenses required to produce the physical record in the end. Kickstarter is all or nothing, which means if I can't hit my goal of $500 I won't get anything for this project. Any money raised beyond the $500 goal will be put to use for future street musician recording projects...so please look for more to come!
Aside from knowing that with your pledge of support--at any level--you have helped me pull this whole thing off, there are certain rewards offered for pledges at certain levels, starting at $5. Please check the info on the right here on the Kickstarter site.
Kickstarter payments are processed through Amazon.com.
Teşekkür ederim! Thank you!

Risks and challenges
This will be my first venture not only to the city of Istanbul but also my first attempt at audio field recordings. I just received the portable audio recorder I am bringing with me; I plan on spending the next couple weeks testing it out on the wide variety of street performers here in San Francisco.
I cannot guarantee a high fidelity audio recording as an end result. I plan to learn from trial and error and hope for this to be the first installment in many more to come.
You will receive a finished recording regardless of audio quality with a pledge (see "Rewards"), and the satisfaction of knowing you have helped KICKSTART me on a venture I've long dreamed of.
