About

November 11th, 2013 - Though today marks the last day of our Kickstarter, and though it does not appear we will reach our ambitious funding goal, we are incredibly excited for the beginning of Slow Road! Over the past two months we have generated press and radio interviews, met with community stakeholders, and attracted the attention of our local PBS station WXXI!

We feel that this Kickstarter campaign was funded enough. Enough to get us noticed, enough for us to know that this idea and project is worth continuing, enough for us to know that community demand exists for this show.

Stay tuned with our efforts by following us at www.slowroadtravel.com (Facebook/Twitter) and read below to learn about us and our mission! We feel privileged and proud to have had the support of so many and for the overwhelming enthusiasm people have shared with us, this really is just the beginning!

Our sincere gratitude on behalf of the entire Slow Road team,

~ Benjamin Woelk

Slow Road:

In every neighborhood, village, town, and city there are forgotten people and places all around us; people who are worth knowing, places that remain hidden and yet have so much to be explored, and communities that need our support.

Slow Road is a project (and movement) that redefines the accessibility of "escape" and encourages freedom of exploration.

Slow Road
focuses on discovering the new places and people that can be found when we take the roads less traveled, and seeks to sustain these places through building relationships and supporting local economies.

We need an intimate lens on the subterranean and grassroots levels of these communities to learn more about them, and to encourage others to come engage, explore, and experience all that they have to offer.

Slow Road focuses on "Main Street USA" and advocates for local people and businesses who are devoted to improving their communities and neighborhoods. We desire to capture the everyday impact their lives bring and the creativity in which they do so!

Traditional media is failing this vital group of people and can't find the pulse of what community means. We need a way to slow down and look more closely to engage...

Slow Road Travel

Slow Road in action

Our documentary travel series will:

- honor the integrity and authenticity of who and what is around us.

- serve as a guide to your region so that we (and more importantly YOU) can find the places worth discovering through documenting the actual routes and Slow Roads that connect you to the destinations.

- find and capture every community that has the chance to bring you amazing new experiences and connect you to dynamic new places and people.

- leave a lasting impact on the communities we feature by benefiting specific projects, people, and businesses.

Help us realize this potential! Help us find and rediscover the places that we have forgotten.

Your funding will enable Season One ( 9 Episodes) of Slow Road to be filmed between now and September of 2014.

We will travel where the community deems that we should, as we begin this journey of capturing the slow roads across America. We will begin in New York State in Season 1 and expand across the Northeast!

Some initial ideas for Season 1 include Slow Roads across Western and Upstate NY as week seek to redefine NY as more than just NYC! Possible destinations include:

Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse, Ithaca, Auburn, Oswego, Corning, Seneca Falls, Pultneyville, Albion, Ellicottville, Oneonta, Cooperstown, Hamburg, East Aurora,  Lyons, Lyndonville, Olcott, Sodus Point, and more...

Help us to discover these places and also explore how we are connected to them!

We also envision capturing the aesthetics of these Slow Roads through timelapse video that demonstrates the best routes to take!

Join us on this adventure; the roads less traveled lead to discovery!

Thank you!

Benjamin Woelk  (co-producer, host Slow Road)

Risks and challenges

We have assembled a remarkable team here at Slow Road whose most important attribute is that we are addicted to community!

We believe in this project to the point that we have volunteered every hour and every mile traveled to date! We have a talented host, dynamic producer and creative design team who have donated all of their time to make this dream a reality.

By funding this project, you are further enabling us to do what we have already begun and you are tremendously growing our ability to reach more people and communities.

In reaching our funding goal, we will be able to fund an entire season (9 episodes) that will take us near and far in our goal of discovering places that will benefit both the people involved and the people who will go experience them for the first time.

We are a crew that believes in integrity and what we can promise is we will be honest every step of the way in our continued development especially if any challenges arise. Our entire success depends on our ability to remain authentic, and we inherently believe in the ability of the community to help solve our collective challenges if they should arise.

We hope you believe in this project as much as we do! There are so many people and places that deserve our attention, don't you agree? Let's discover the hidden stories of people and place!

Thank you for making Slow Road become a reality!
