Demons of QC
Interesting news today! The first batch of porcelain dials was recently finished so Wilfried headed to Shenzhen on Friday to inspect them before they were sent to for finishing to our dial surface factory.
We had decided to make a thousand of them (500 blue and 500 white) so as to have spares for after-sales purposes. And his task for the day was... to check them all! You will have guessed, it is quite boring job... but wanting to leave nothing to chance, Wilfried buckled down for the day and looked all of them over for the most minute defects!
The result? We rejected 50% of the white dials and all of the blue dials. Indeed, by painstakingly looking over each individual dial, Wilfried uncovered small defects in half the white dials and tiny specks of impurities in all blue dials. While potentially acceptable to other manufacturers these were clear and absolute no-gos for us (worry not, we won't let anything slip through)!
Our manufacturer is now making a new batch of dials, and he has understood and taken into account all our points of concern. Also, don't worry about delays - we had incorporated a one-month buffer for the dials, so we are still on track (it should also quickly be noted that the dials are the most difficult part of our watch to manufacture).
Next on the list are the straps... all 700 of them should make quite the collection - more on that soon! :)
'Til next time!
