By now we’ve already developed USMA’s full working prototypes, and at this moment we need your help to raise 9.600 £, so we can start a premium craft production of this peaceful time setting machine. Will you join us and help us spread peacefulness around the globe? Thank you!
How did it all start?
We’re natural born city boys with almost no roots left connecting us to the countryside. Besides that we work on the creative field mainly for the private market, thus almost everything we’re doing today feels like it should have been delivered yesterday. Yeah, we live on a permanent rush. It seems that everything is either fast or gone.
A couple of years back we went to spend a weekend in Vila Soeiro do Chão that seemed more like time travelling for us. The small village by the deep Portuguese Northern countryside has about 180 inhabitants – less than most of people’s facebook friends. Besides the 180 welcoming inhabitants there was a church, and the church clock, which actually set the village rhythm. A very peaceful and distressful one. Back to the big cities where we have our offices such as Lisbon (Portugal), São Paulo (Brasil), Istanbul (Turkey) and Brussels (Belgium), we all felt we were missing this peaceful rhythm in our daily routines, and that’s how and why we decided to create USMA. So, we could actually ignore all visual time setting devices and let the countryside feeling rule our lives.
Today, at this precise moment we’re kickstarting USMA - the clock without a visual interface - in order to find out if there’s more people sharing this need to distress their relation with time. We do hope so! The prototypes look great, and above all they sound and feel great to have around.
USMA's brief history:
From the first spark to the first sketches... it took us no time!
Bringing it to life, was a slightly different story :)
We developed a first version of USMA, and made sure that - regarding the sound quality - it set the example for any further development.
We then started simplifying...
Until we reached our final solution. Ready to go!
And it kind of looks good :) ...don't you think?
How does it work?
Usma works with two AA bateries that will only need to be replaced in around 2-years time.
(This time span can vary according to the quality of the batteries...)
To set time you just need to push it's only button at 12:00 or 00:00. That simple!
How does it sound?
There's a 12-hour cycle of bell rings, playing twice per day: From 00:00 to 11:00 and from 12:00 to 23:00. Within these cycles there are 2 types of sounds playing hourly (type A) and every half an hour (type B). It's is pretty much as a church bell.
This video showcases it's real sound capture, with no post-production.
You can own time, wear a cool t-shirt or even experience the Countryside, in everyway: Countryside Rocks!
Production and delivery plan
If... hum, hum... ONCE ☺ we achieve our minimum goal we'll be able to produce around 150 USMA per month. Meaning that from the moment we start producing them, until they reach you, one should consider about 2 months for every 150 units.
1 month for production + 1 month for handling- packaging and transportation.
But don’t worry, when reaching that stage we’ll inform and update you on every step of the way.
Risks and challenges
As you may understand your help is as much needed, as it’s unpredictable. Meaning that if we end up getting a lot of support we’ll most probably have a very good problem in hands related to delivery time. ☺ The problem is related to what we believe to be a virtue: this is a Premium Crafted object, thus produced by hand.
So, in case your support is overwhelming we believe that it is only fair to deliver the items according to the order of request. But don't worry because one thing is for sure, we know we can produce and deliver as much USMAs as you may request. There’s no limit for that! We’ll keep you always updated, and let’s just hope we have to deal with that great problem ☺ So, don't waste any time and start helping us today!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
