Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast is about to start recording its 7th series.
As always we will be releasing these as free audio podcasts, but we are not sure that we can afford to film them too this time round. It costs around about £1500 an episode to pay the camera operators, producer and editor and as there are likely to be 18 episodes in this series (and more planned for the autumn) that is a big chunk of change.
We gave the last series of videos podcasts away for free (and are also releasing the previously pay-to-view filmed episodes too) but the question is do people want the filmed versions or are they happy to listen for free. As you probably know we have a monthly badge system in place where people can contribute towards costs of making our internet content, but £27,000 would use up about a year’s worth of that money and we’d rather save that up to make something more ambitious (like a monthly filmed AIOTM, which if all goes well might be with us in early 2016).
We’re not really looking for monthly subscribers to give us more (unless they really want to), but I know that some of you prefer the idea of a Kickstarter-style campaign or might not have donated yet. I have, so far, avoided adding adverts to the podcasts, though there have been some offers, as I think they would get in the way of the fun and I feel that these podcasts belong to the fans and not big corporations. So I wondered if the fans would like to contribute in return for rewards. Or if the videos are just a nice extra that they don’t want to pay for, in which case we’ll stop doing them and put your money to better use elsewhere. If we make more than the money required then any excess will go towards paying for series 8 to be videoed.
Risks and challenges
We are constantly trying to get these podcasts looking as good as they can be.
This will be the fourth series we have filmed - the last two were in HD - and we got the lights looking pretty snazzy now too.
So we can't see too many risks or challenges on the horizon, unless someone thinks of a way to improve what we have got.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
