If you ride your bike in big cities such as Barcelona, San Francisco or Glasgow, you have probably experienced the fear of parking your bicycle in the street, because of bike theft. Even if you feel discouraged, you still want to ride that bike you spent so much energy and effort on. Feeling the vibes. Discovering the city. A sustainable way of moving around.
PedalNest gives you the opportunity to park your bike safely everywhere you go, so that you can move around freely.
If you have unused space at your place and you have free time, or you work from home, or study, or just stay in some days per week, you could help other cyclists around you. And maybe make some money, effortless.
With PedalNest you can make some profit of your available space. It takes no time or resources. It’s just storing a bike. Thus, you are promoting the use of bicycles in your town by taking part of a social sharing movement.
We are creating a platform that connects cyclists with hosts that own suitable parking spaces.
Pedal Nest is a platform that connects cyclists to convenient, safe and
secure bike parking solutions, provided by hosts, with the aim to make cycling a
safer, easier and more appealing method of transport.
The concept is to allow someone that requires a parking space for their bike, a
‘Guest’, to connect with someone who wants to earn some extra money and owns a
suitable storage space. This is a ‘Host’.
The storage space could be a common room, a garage, general storage room, private parking space, a terrace, or any safe space they have available. As private underground parking spaces are widespread in cities like Barcelona, it is believed that these can be easily implemented. The host will have to upload photos of the space to show its size and quality.
How does it work for guests?
It takes 4 steps:
The guest is then going to evaluate and rate the quality of the service.
How does it work for hosts?
For Hosts, it is first required to list your parking option and get approved on our platform.
When the guest and host form an agreement they decide on a parking time frame.
This is a suitable time for the host to drop off the bike, when the host can guarantee
they will be available to receive it.
Once the bike is stored, the Host will have to verify so with a picture.
One of the features will be recruiting unexploited existing safe parking solutions in our platform service, making it a win-win-win situation.
Bike rentals, bike shops, private underground parking and existing bike storage companies will be able to become hosts in return of an advertising fee. This will advertise their business and attract cyclists to their services, while enabling wider access for the guests.
The aim is to make the app appealing for the host while keeping it affordable for the guest.
With the option for one time use or a monthly subscription, the guests can try out the service before subscribing. It will also be better value for infrequent users. The exact pricing will be adjusted based on the supply and demand and estimated based on what cyclists pay for the existing parking services.

We both share a passion for cycling, using our bikes daily, and have suffered the problematic this app pretends to solve. We’d personally be hosts and guests in the app!
Risks and challenges
The risks and feasibility of Pedal Nest have been researched, analysed and taken into consideration when designing the platform. Initially a survey was sent out to friends and family around the world (the majority living in Glasgow or Barcelona) to gain a better insight of the demand and whether.
The primary risks of the venture are:
1. Lack of funding
2. Lack of interest from users
3. Competitors within transport services
These results back up the need for an effective form of bike theft prevention. In

addition, with only 7.5% of the responses stating that they would not use the PedalNest service, it can be assumed that the platform will be well accepted. However, as previously stated in the implementation plan, sponsors and marketing will be used extensively to increase awareness of the service and widen access.
This shall reduce the risk of lack of interest and demand. These sponsors will also aid the income and help generate a profit for Pedal Nest.
Finally, the risk of responsibility, which has been previously described in the terms and conditions, will be fully described to the host and guests so that they understand their responsibility and the circumstances if they neglect their role.
