Favorite piece “sold out”? Don’t see the color you want? Don’t worry - the “sold out” listings are a glitch. EVERYTHING IS AVAILABLE. I’ll also be personally following up with contributors to ensure everyone receives the exact piece they purchased.
I’m Bruce Lindsay, creator of Electric Candy Couture (ECC) - my otherworldly line of laser cut acrylic and LED jewelry & costume accessories.
The idea for ECC hit me like a bolt of neon lightning about 18 months ago, when I realized I could use computer-controlled lasers on UV and light up materials to craft astonishing glowing creations. The ancient world was my inspiration. The modern world, my canvas.
As a full-time designer and creative professional... I knew the possibilities were unlimited with technology at hand.
As an artist and proud member of the Burner community... my imagination took flight. What fantasies could I design? What dreamlike collaborations could I bring to life with other visionaries and fashion lovers?
Shortly afterward, Superstorm Sandy severely damaged the office building I worked in. My job vanished in a pile of rubble overnight. So I went with my gut and my passion, and turned 100% of my energy on to ECC. That’s when everything really took off.
Since that day, I’ve worked tirelessly; designing, creating, promoting, and developing Electric Candy, literally day and night.
My work’s been rocked by celebrities on the red carpet, and festival-goers around the world. This is what I do – and this is what I love.
Word is spreading. Orders are coming in. My path is clear: I want to take Electric Candy Couture to the top, and continue to create high tech, wearable art rooted in ancient mythology - the likes of which the world has never seen. (Yet.)
Now, with your help, we can turn my heart’s work into a shimmering global phenomenon.
SUPERSTORMS AND SERENDIPITY: THE UNUSUAL EARLY DAYS OF ECC
After the storm that left most of NYC without power (and me without a day job), there was only one place to go: all in. I poured everything I had into Electric Candy, and crossed my fingers.
Luckily, chance wasn’t through with me yet. Around the same time, I’d been contacted by a musician interested in renting one of my outfits for a video. I’d soon discover she was world-renowned electronic rock star Kerli.
By the end of that week, she was wearing one of my pieces to the American Music Awards. A celebrity rockin’ Electric Candy on the red carpet after less than a year? I knew I had to be onto something.
From there, the universe (or maybe the appeal of gorgeous glowing art) has continued to open doors. I was invited to join Paradox Design’s show on wearable art during the Art Basel festival in Miami. I vend underground parties and nightclubs in NYC. I organize out-of-this-world fashion shows at fundraising parties, and set up shop at summer festivals across the US.
My designs are loved by burners, burlesque performers, goths, steampunks, and EDM and rave lovers alike.
Between Burning Man and Halloween this year, I sold almost my entire collection - but I’m about as far as I can get on my own.
While I’ve been so blessed with growth so far, but I’d love to funnel the money I make into never-before-seen designs and innovative techniques… instead of just paying the bills.
It’s time for the next phase. But I can’t do it alone.
That’s where this kickstarter campaign comes in.
My goal for this campaign is to raise enough proceeds to set up Electric Candy Couture as an LLC, get trademarked, and rebuild my collection.
I’m also looking to invest in professional product photography and a kickass wholesale catalog, so my work can hit the shelves of boutiques nationwide. But doin’ it big don’t come cheap!
Here’s the basic cost breakdown:
- LLC and Trademarks: $1000
- Reproduce Product Line for Photography, Display, and Rentals: $3000
- Product Photography: $1500
- Wholesale Catalog Production: $2000
- Shipping Supplies: $500
- Kickstarter and Amazon Fees: $2000
- Advertising: $500
- Production and shipping costs of Incentives: $11,250
- 2 months of labor for myself and assistant: $3250
The wonderful thing about my manufacturing process? Production scales very easily.
If I exceed the goal for this kickstarter, I’ll still be able to produce pieces in a timely fashion, and handle the growing business. Processing larger orders AND keeping manufacturing within the US will be a breeze.
I’ve got hundreds of ideas for new ECC designs, and more being sketched out every day. With this cash behind me, I could integrate more advanced lighting systems, new materials, and countless style variations. The potential is mind-boggling. And shiny.
Should I exceed the $25,000 goal, it might also be possible to obtain my own laser cutting machine. The sky’s the gorgeous limit then!
So I welcome you to purchase and and all of my incentives here that suit your taste and budget. Everything you see here is marked down 20% from my Esty shop. It’s a pretty sweet deal.

All designs are constructed from various kinds laser cut and engraved acrylic (also called plexiglass or perspex.) These materials are both durable and lightweight, and I often get compliments about how comfortable they are to wear. But of course, you probably shouldn’t play tackle football in your glow gear.
UV reactive acrylics glow under black lights, and some designs feature battery powered, replaceable black light LED’s.
Iridescent acrylics have a radiant, rainbow shimmer in sunlight, and some designs are also accentuated by battery powered white light LED’s.
Mirrored acrylics come in a rainbow of brilliant colors, and although their opacity doesn’t allow them to light up themselves, the mirrored finish reflects every light in the room.
All pieces are assembled by hand using stainless steel jump rings, split rings, chains, and/or strong-and-easy to use lobster clasps.
All photos of UV acrylic jewelry are shot under black light.

Risks and challenges
I've done all I can to make sure that the challenges I'll face after the kickstarter is completed will be minimal. After over a year of producing these designs, I've cultivated reliable suppliers of my materials, competent laser cutting service, and skilled assistants. I've also had a chance to perfect my production process and have a very good sense of how long things will take to assemble.
The largest obstacle I see will be having the physical space to process all the orders. I am by nature a very organized person, so even when I hit the limits of what I can do in my studio, it will only cause slight delays in my production. If I exceed my goal by a substantial amount, I may also rent a space to help facilitate the assembly and shipping.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
