About this project
Ignacy Trzewiczek returns with a new volume of stories picked from his blog! Welcome back, please stay for the adventure and help us share this wonderful resource!
Two years ago, Ignacy Trzewiczek had a dream. He had been writing stories and essays on his blog for years and wanted more than anything to have a collection of those stories sitting in his library. With the help of Kickstarter, and backers like you, that dream came true. Now we're back to do it all again!
Ignacy has picked some of the best essays which he published on his Boardgames That Tell Stories blog from 2013 to 2014. Volume 2 will also include new essays which were written exclusively for the book. As with volume 1, this book will feature unique photos and pictures of prototypes of Ignacy's games!
Ignacy Trzewiczek writes a new post every Wednesday about his adventures in the board game industry. His aim is to entertain everyone who follows with candid tales of designing, publishing, exhibiting... and sometimes even playing games. His blog is featured on Boardgamegeek.com and has become one of the most followed blogs on the site. Ignacy also publishes additional content on a site dedicated to the blog, boardgamesthattellstories.com
We've hand-picked 23 of the best stories to include in this volume. Each article has been re-edited by a professional editor. Learn about the development of Stronghold 2nd Edition. Read about the many months of hard development involved in designing Rattle Battle. Learn how his children helped design the Award Winning Imperial Settlers. Step behind the scenes to learn how Ignacy develops some of the most popular board games on the market today. All in this one book.

With volume 1, and your help, Ignacy was able to invite his friends and fellow designers on board and make this book more than twice as big as it was planned in the beginning.
We hope that this time your support will help us once again invite some of the great names in the industry to join the project and write an essay about game design!

BGTTS made it clear to me I don't want to be a game designer. Who needs all that grief? I can just be grateful that Ignacy does! - Wayne Walker
I want an expansion to the book please. - Ben Nicholson
I've not finished reading it because I'm SAVORING each and every page. -Willie Hung
10 times better than beer pong. - Johnny Mustard
Boardgames That Tell Stories volume I turned out to be a tremendous success. Planned as a small, 128 page project, turned out to be a big 268 page book with hardcover, dust cloth, color insert, and bunch of additional promos and goodies.
The project was joined by so many great designers including Mike Selinker, Bruno Cathala, Rob Daviou, Antoine Bauza, Vlaada Chvatil and many more!
Click here (or right-click and Save as...) to check out a sample chapter. If you don't like it, well, then you can save time and stop reading here.
If the campaign is successful then all of the content will be sent to the editor, and then to the desktop publishing team who will create the amazing layout of the pages, add a number of photos and drawings and then it is ready to go to print.
If we manage to have success here and invite more writers (designers) on-board, we will need to wait a couple of additional weeks for them to finish their essays.
Risks and challenges
The book will be printed in Poland. We are doing the printing ourselves, and the Portal Games team is putting as much effort and attention into this campaign as in any board game project.
While we do not predict any delays, doing anything in print is never a guarantee. We will keep you informed throughout the duration of the campaign of anything that may cause your rewards to ship later than expected. We have a long history of successful board game manufacturing with our Polish printers which ensures us that they will give this project their utmost attention.
I work for Portal Games as our US Representative. Our previous campaign for Boardgames That Tell Stories was wildly successful and this time, we are able to manage things ourselves. I have personal experience with Kickstarter with my personal campaign funding last year and successfully fulfilling that project myself.
