My name is Tom Broadbent and I am a photographer based in London, England, United Kingdom and I'm asking for your help to make my project, "At Home With The Furries" into a book.
In 2008 during a photo shoot for a magazine, I met my first furry, a six foot husky wolf called Smirnoff at a furry convention in London. Since then Smirnoff and members of the furry community in Britain have allowed me to photograph them in their homes, their gardens and their favourite local haunts.
"At Home With The Furries" is an unique insight into the furry fandom and approaches the subculture with a playful tone whilst treating it with respect and humility.
Being a furry is about more than a costume, it’s a way of life, an identity that you choose. You can be a furry without ever wanting or needing to put on a fursuit. This project represents a nice, soft, fluffy, sometime scaly or feathery route into this fascinating world.
The book will consist of portraits of furries from all over Great Britain. It will be beautifully designed with a simple text and introduction to all the characters featured.
Over the course of its development, "At Home With The Furries" has been featured in The Sunday Times Magazine, Wired Italy and Feature Shoot. Smirnoff, the husky wolf also appeared in the book, "1001 Photographs You Must See Before You Die" by Paul Lowe, published September 2017. Eight images from the project were exhibited in January this year as part of the Absolut Manifesto Festival in Madrid, Spain.
There will be an accompanying essay by Laura Noble, the respected photography gallerist and curator and a text by Uncle Kage, the chairman of Anthrocon; one of the biggest furry conventions in the world, that happens in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania every year.
The nature of furry seeps through every part of this book, from the flock cover material and design, illustrations, writing and of course the photography.
Take a look at some of the amazing rewards on offer, we have custom-made furry tote bags, limited-edition prints, postcards, and the book itself, which for a special price will come in a custom-designed furry slipcase by the costume and furry designers, Curious Creatures.
It will be published through the imprint, Stay Free Publishing and limited to 750 copies.

Risks and challenges
The risks and challenges when publishing a photobook include the possibility of delay, but I have an experienced team behind this project dealing with the production and printing challenges involved in making great photobooks. If this campaign is successful, we will do everything possible to make sure the book is printed in May 2018 with delivery in August to backers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
