WHAT IS PUGLY?
It's full color comic book about a dog, for people who love dogs.
More to the point...
PUGLY is a comic book misadventure about a spoiled little pug who finds himself on the streets, where life and a family he never knew he wanted, or needed, conspire to teach him what it means to be a "real dog."
The story will be told over 4-issues (20-pages each, Full Color) with this KICKSTARTER focusing on bringing the first issue across the finish line and into readers' hands as quickly as possible.
WHO ARE THE CREATIVE MINDS BEHIND PUGLY?
PUGLY is the brainchild of myself (Jonathan Goff - just call me Jon) and artist, Jim Hanna.
Jim's work has graced various covers for the Hero Initiatives "100s Project" as well as sketch cards and indie titles, including our supernatural pulp-noir indie comic, Jack Rabbit.
Frank*, the pug who serves as the model/star/inspiration for this series, is Jim Hanna's loyal, weird, excitable, calm, scrunch-faced sidekick (or maybe it's the other way around?
My credits include Destiny (launch and Year 1 content, various Grimoire entries), Halo Evolutions (Headhunters and others), Spawn (200-243), Blood Red Dragon, brand manager and creative director for McFarlane Toys, as well as various creator-owned comic titles.
* - Short for Franklin Delano Puggsevelt.
THE FIRST ISSUE IS ALMOST DONE?
You read that right.
- ALL pages have been penciled and inked.
- ALL pages are being colored as I type this (we will show them off in Updates as the days go by).
- FINAL scripting and lettering is in the works.
- Once the Kickstarter ends, the only production left will beany info gathering need to fulfill Rewards and any art needed specific to Rewards.
- We will ship the standard issues and digital copies immediately upon receiving Kickstarter survey details, with any books tied to original art reward tiers by shipped every few days as art is completed.
This Kickstarter isn't to gauge interest and have the Backers foot the bill as we try to figure out what we're doing. WE KNOW WHAT WE'RE DOING... and we're doing it!
We just need you, the readers, to come along for the ride.
HERE'S THE COOL STUFF...
Risks and challenges
Other than tragedy, there are no obstacles to completing the standard book and art prints, as they are ALL nearly complete, save for production (coloring, lettering, formatting) which can be done in-house or outsourced to qualified parties set up as contingencies on the off chance something unexpected and tragic happens.
There are also no internal obstacles toward completing any of the higher tier asks including original artwork. We will work diligently with Backers to ensure all technical and scheduling needs are met on everybody's end.
Other than minor delays we expect and have planned for delivery of items within the month estimated, in many cases sooner.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
