Update - Hannah Fierman joins the cast!
We are thrilled to announce that we've added the superbly talented Hannah Fierman to the cast of our movie! Hannah will portray Rowan, the female lead, a femme fatale who becomes the target of our hero's obsession, and leads him into a very... Bad place. Martin believes it could be love at first sight and that Rowan needs to be saved from an unseen metaphysical terror that has it's gaze on both of them...
Horror fans will recognize Hannah from her turn in V/H/S (streaming on Netflix) in the "Amateur Night" segment as the "I like you" girl, or from the Southern Gothic vampire tale The Unwanted.
Icons of Fright tells you all about it! http://iconsoffright.com/2015/03/23/vhs-star-hannah-fierman-joins-cast-of-crowdfunded-film-events-surrounding-a-peeping-tom-the-horror-that-followed/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=vhs-star-hannah-fierman-joins-cast-of-crowdfunded-film-events-surrounding-a-peeping-tom-the-horror-that-followed
The Events Surrounding a Peeping Tom & the Horror That Followed is the disturbing story of Martin Malone, a lonely Peeping Tom who finds himself caught and arrested following a misstep. As he nears the end of his court-mandated rehabilitation, Martin is still unable to fight his urges and begins to peep again. It is then that he discovers Rowan, the girl of his dreams. As his obsession with her grows, he begins to suspect that she may be involved with the occult. Using his peeping skills, Martin begins an investigation that leads him down a twisted path to something more horrible than anything he could ever imagine and realizes that all the while, he's being watched himself...
This is a character driven tale examining the psychology of voyeurism in our postmodern world of hyper-surveillance. A dark romance that finds two strangers falling in love, then falling further into something else... An exploration of being trapped by our desires and the ghosts of our pasts. Who watches us when we are alone, exposing our true selves?
Brian James Fitzpatrick is a writer/director who worked as associate producer on Spring Breakers, Holidays (horror anthology), and co-producer on the upcoming London Fields. Damian Maffei is a professional actor known best in NY for many stage performances and movies such as Joe R. Lansdale's Christmas with the Dead and Closed for the Season. The two met in high school during a freshman year production of Little Shop of Horrors; since then they have been friends/colleagues. They went on to attend the same professional acting program in NYC, William Esper Studio, appearing together in a dozen plays and several short films.
The idea for The Events Surrounding a Peeping Tom & the Horror That Followed (hereafter referred to as "The Events Surrounding", or TESAPTATHTF) had been evolving in Damian's head for about 2 decades before Brian took the idea and grew it into the fresh, exciting, unfolding bit of fever-dream-inspired terror that it is now. An atmospheric comparison would be Roman Polanski's The Tenant meets Ben Wheatley's Kill List with a visit from their friend The Wicker Man (Robin Hardy's original).
This project is to be produced in association with Muse Productions, the fiercely independent film company behind such artsploitation madness as American Psycho, The Killer Inside Me, Spring Breakers, and London Fields.
We will be working with practical, real deal special FX! For that we are teaming up with the Emmy nominated (Boardwalk Empire) Jeremy Selenfriend and his fantastic FX house Monster in My Closet. No stranger to handling the bumps, bruises, monsters, and oozes of cinema (The Blacklist, Netflix series Daredevil, The Adderall Diaries AND Chernobyl Diaries to name a few...) we could not be in more talented hands.
We have been prepping TESAPTATHTF for months and are currently in pre-production with principal photography to begin this May.
Coming from a punk rock, DIY background, we're used to shoestring budgets, and we know how to spend each dollar to its fullest. With this approach, we maintain the creative control needed to bring this story to the screen, with our eyes focused on quality - without compromising our ambitious vision.
We're using all of our resources to get this done, with wonderful locations provided to us throughout Long Island and Queens, utilizing our own money combined with this campaign.
We're not looking for bonus money we'll use to go for extra stuff, extravagant goodies, or more granola bars. Every cent has a predetermined home waiting for it. Isn't that nice? The funds we raise here will go into physical production, taking us through completion of principal photography. We hope this allows you to support us with the spirit, knowledge, and conviction that we will deliver a movie that will be fun and challenging to horror fans and movie lovers. Our number one goal is to give you something you'll want to look at again and again!
We're doing our best to put together a solid campaign - while also doing our best to offer as many cool, tangible perks as we possibly can. We want everyone to be a part of this so it can genuinely be a movie we all had a hand in making.
There are shirts, magnets, DVDs, Blu-rays, limited edition posters (An eventual series of 3 designed by Marc Schoenbach of SADIST ART DESIGNS), and never forget the Official 'Peeper Keeper-Away' Flashlight Key-chain. Special incentives like an hour long pitch meeting or movie project consultation with producer Travis Stevens (Cheap Thrills, Starry Eyes, We Are Still Here). In the higher reward brackets, you have the opportunity to be a Producer on the movie! Producer rewards land you credits on the IMDB and on screen. Executive and Co-Producer also puts your name on the poster and DVD/Blu-ray, with mentions in press releases... but also Executive gets you invited to the festivals our film plays at.
There are visits to the set, limited edition photos, props, speaking roles, and a very memorable, wild death scene... So:
Our sincerest thanks to you for taking the time to hang here, check things out, and, if you choose to do so, support this project in any way you can. This movie means everything to us, we want it to mean something to you, and when the finished project is ready for looking at, we're quite sure you'll feel the same way.
We will be adding updates (location scout videos, casting news, other goodies, etc.) throughout the campaign. Any questions or concerns, PLEASE do not hesitate to ask Damian or Brian either here, or on Twitter, Facebook, or any other social networking outlets where we can be tracked down and happily cornered.
Risks and challenges
Making movies is tough stuff. It's common for movie people to compare it to war (being in the trenches) or the Mafia (careful who you vouch for) and even an act of natural chaos or a miracle from the Almighty (force majeure!). While I certainly know what they mean (even if they are a tad dramatic), there's good news. Each movie project I have worked on ('No Budget,' 'Low Budget,' 'Mid Range,' 'Big Budget') has presented unique challenges, but hold one thing in common: the collaborative spirit of the team.
Teamwork makes the movie. The good ones happen through the talent of all positions, everyone doing their jobs... A true team shares ideas and keeps communication open allowing all departments to move as one intensely powerful force of creativity.
We need you to become a part of this team. A team behind a worthy entry into the new voice; the post-postmodern movement of horror. There are risks with any movie, but we've got the know-how and the talent on board to make this happen with a budget we've worked out to get it done the right way.
Get into the trenches with us and before too long that strange, energizing sensation of sitting down, kicking your feet up, and watching a movie that you made possible will happen. And the whole journey will be exciting.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
