WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
We have completed principal photography and locked the cut, but need your help to bring HOLLER over the finish line. In order to do that, we need to raise enough funds to cover color correction, sound mix and to create our deliverables (the final product).
Why so much money? Post production is expensive, and we want to be able to deliver the highest quality short possible for festivals and to you, our Kickstarter backers!
Coon and Blaze are two young brothers growing up in small town southern Ohio. Not only are they brothers, but they're inseparable best friends. Their story is set against a rust belt town where jobs are disappearing, factories are closing and many young people are struggling. These are the children left behind, and while the world moves on, they must find a way to get by.
While making HOLLER, the people of Jackson, Wellston and Coalton, came together to help the filmmakers tell their story. It is through their generosity and graciousness that this project has come to fruition.
Part of the short was filmed at the local 4-H Camp, Canter's Cave, where the camp director, Anita, offered up her home and the surrounding grounds to film the climax of the story. The camp brings in a couple thousand campers every year and almost every kid in southeastern Ohio has memories of spending warm summer nights around a bonfire or fishing in the manmade lake.
Woody, the owner of Woody's Towing & Auto Repair in Coalton, opened his doors to the team, allowing us to transform both his business and his home into one of the key sets of the film.
Ronnie, who runs one of the two scrapyards in Jackson, made the opening shot of the film possible by single handedly cutting off pieces of an old fire engine so that the camera could be placed where needed. His team also cleared out a whole section of ten-foot tall scrap metal so that our crew could move around the yard. In addition, Ronnie helped secure other locations and even has a brief cameo in the film itself.
Like Anita, Ronnie and Woody, many others lent a helping hand. For example, Tiny and John, who run the Rocky Creek Campground, let us film in one of their cabins, Debbie and Bob, local farmers and active community leaders, allowed us in their barn and Nea, a prominent realtor in the area, housed a large number of the crew in her own home.
The locations in HOLLER show the history of these towns by juxtaposing isolated, decaying buildings and infrastructure with the beauty of the surrounding nature. Additionally, the people that inhabit this part of the country are some of the kindest, most generous and trusting that you will find.
The film is as much an ode to the people and the spirit of small town Ohio as it is the story of Blaze and Coon.
HOLLER is dedicated to those people and that spirit.

Risks and challenges
With the short in the can, we're very excited to move forward and finish HOLLER. Our challenge now comes in meeting the costs we have budgeted for the rest of post production as well as our deadline of completing the short before the end of the year.
To that end, we have a high quality, professional post facility lined up and ready to do the work once we have the funds in place.
This is a story about the forgotten parts of America, and we would love for you to become a part of the HOLLER community by helping us share this story with the world!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
