In Gods' Gambit, players represent fallen Gods who must solve problems in the world, performing good acts to be allowed to return to the High Heavens.
By playing a card from your hand of either the same color (same location) or the same value (same trouble) as on the playing table, you clear one of the quests bestowed upon you.
When one player has managed to rid themselves of all of the cards in their hand (quests), or when a certain period of time has passed (when you've drawn four certain special cards from the draw deck), that round is finished. The player who rids themselves of all the cards in their hand gets closer to the High Heavens, but those with remaining cards are pushed away even further.
The Gods can use their faithful servants for their own purposes as well. They can help their masters to do away with surplus quests, or cause trouble for the other Gods by imposing more quests on them. However, when you do so, take care, because all these acts will remain in memory, as bad Karma.
If you manage to complete all your quests, your accumulated bad Karma will be ignored, but if you fail and have quests remaining, they will become a heavy burden.
You will need to determine when to silently do your chores and when to use your servants to increase your chances of success.
Gods' Gambit is the next innovation by popular game designer Seiji Kanai. Partnered with the artistic skills of Kouji Ogata, these two have brought to life a tabletop game that is literally out of this world. We haven't seen something on Kickstarter quite like Gods' Gambit and we believe it can succeed with proper funding.
Above the mortal realm lie the High Heavens, a world overseen by the Almighty and populated by his many offspring, the Gods. Life in the High Heavens was idyllic; the Gods would dally about, surrounded by luxuries beyond measure, without a care for those around them. Soon, they grew selfish and greedy from this hedonistic existence. Their bickering brought about much conflict resulting from trifling jealousies and minor transgressions, leading to open warfare and wanton violence.
The Almighty was dismayed by what He saw and sought to punish the Gods accordingly. He decreed unto them all that their actions have erased any good Karma they might have had. So, with a wave of His hand, He cast the impudent Gods from the High Heavens, condemning them to walk the lands of mortals, far from the joys of Heavens' bounty. The only path to salvation would be to redeem themselves for their misdeeds. These fallen Gods, eager to return to the Almighty’s good graces, would have to perform good acts to quickly regain His favor.
Good acts, the Gods soon learned, would require them to preserve the balance of the world and deliver mortals from pain and suffering. It means stopping the war in the North, curing the illness in the West, stemming the depravation by demonic forces in the East, and bringing nourishment to the famine-wracked populace in the South. To do so, the Gods must use their loyal believers, and sometimes supernatural beings, to achieve this.
But in the course of this competition, many Gods will stray from the path of righteousness. Healing the lands will not suffice to outperform the others. Those who succumb to their darker nature will call upon apocalypses and favors from Fallen beings to sabotage the other Gods. To them, the only goal even worth considering is to return to the High Heavens, doing so by any means necessary.
Who will be the victor of this horrible story? Which God will finally be able to return to the heavens?
