They say write what you know, so I tried it for the first time with this project. Inspired by the surreal experience of going to an art school for college, I invented a story about a girl who decides to go a little too far in her exploration of artistic expression. She decides to seduce and kill a random stranger on camera and shows it in class as her latest project. The class isn't sure what to make of it, but they never really realize that she is actually killing. Meanwhile, two policemen investigate the murder and are shocked by its violence. I think this story will be both an entertaining thriller while also talking about art, film, and its different effects and receptions. I am planning on making highly visual as well, with several abstract landscapes created through compositing and macro-photography.
If I meet my goal, I am planning to use the money in a few specific ways: first, I am planning on building a few rigs for lighting and compositing. One will be a simple windmill structure to allow me to rotate lights during a shot. The second will be seesaw with a camera mount to simulate gravity shifts for some of the surreal sequences. Second, the money will go to renting locations for a shoot and hiring police officers to control traffic flow in a few scenes. Third, to props, costuming, on-set sustenance and other random costs.
