@Clint Walker and @Matt Stevens: I clarified the stretch goals on the page. All "Kickstarter-editions" will come with all stretch goals earned during the campaign. They will be revealed as the campaign unfolds.

    2. Matt Stevens 1 day ago

@Clint While it isn't perfectly clear, it appears the only difference between the KS edition and Retail are the Stretch Goals. The bundle only comes with one copy of the Stretch Goals.

Hey Mark on looking through this page again...it isn't clear to me, what is the difference between the KS edition and Retail edition?...the tiers say : 'Rudders & Ramparts' gets you KS edition plus stretch goals, 'Rudders & Ramparts x3 Bundle' gets you 1xKS edition, 2x Retail, and stretch goals...what is missing in the 2nd and 3rd copies?...this should be easier to understand on the page... :)

@Mark Swanson You mentioned that you thought the expantion boxes were too large. Does that mean this box will be smaller? How does that fit into the display with all the boxes? I have mine proudly in display and I'd hate for this one to be the odd one out.

      Thanks!

PS Love the game and the sculpts!

I sent you a private message on kickstarter.
By the way, Feudum is one of the finalist for an award in Belgium...

Nice, @mark. I'm with the majority, a guild tracker would be very nice for all the backers who knows how this situation sometimes creates some confusion during the game. I don't know if a board is the best solution or tokens, but helping with this would be great. :) I'm going for the campaign, thinking about the addons. :) Good luck.

õ¿õ: I did not want to offer two many pledge levels. There will be backers in multiple reward levels who want the playmat, so it made more sense to treat it as a post campaign add on.

    14. Mark Swanson 2-time creator 5 days ago

@Maeva Barbosa: After supplying partners with original stretch goals, I should have enough domestically. I will monitor demand carefully.

    15. Mark Swanson 2-time creator 5 days ago

@Don Sombrero. The corrected Alter Ego cards might come from Florida separately, but I might look into supplying various fulfillment centers with some inventory.

    16. Mark Swanson 2-time creator 5 days ago

@Eira Følling: I bumped it down a little, but unfortunately Norway and Switzerland are simply more expensive to ship to, so the rates we've adjusted are the best we can do.

The bottom legends playmat add on says:

''Add this epic playmat board to your order after the campaign!''
Why is it not better to collect more money during the campaign!

      Hi Mark,

I wanted a clarification about the strech goals of the first campaign. I see we can have them add-on for 14 $ but the amount is limited. What are the terms for safe holdings?

      Thank you :) !

    19. Don Sombrero 5 days ago

@Mark - a loosely connected question. Since the content of the kickstarter is available during in parallel as part of the Polish crowdfunding campaign, would it be possible to supply Czacha Games with corrected cards as well?

As I have bought English version previously I can obtain the expansion and the playmat during the Polish campaign but the only thing I would be missing would be corrected cards. Would it be possible to ship the cards to Czacha Games along with the R&R content?

    20. Eira Følling 5 days ago

      Any updates on Norwegian shipping?

    21. Mark Swanson 2-time creator 7 days ago

@Alessandro Bordin: Yes. They will be available as FREE add-ons after the campaign and then later on the odd bird games store for free, plus shipping.

    22. Mark Swanson 2-time creator 7 days ago

@õ¿õ: You may email mark@oddbirdgames.com for replacement parts.

Is there any chance to get the correct alter ego cards through this new kickstarter?

    24. Missing avatar

      õ¿õ on

      Hi Mark
I'm talking about the eleven player cards , also the pawn they are used , the pawn's edge are white. A replacement as add on cards and pawns, will be good!

    25. Mark Swanson 2-time creator on

@õ¿õ: I’m not sure what you mean by players spare cards. Can you elaborate?

    26. Mark Swanson 2-time creator on

@Olivier Peter: The only SGs available for the Queen’s Army is the purchasable Queen’s Army Playmat. I am sold out of KS edition. Items I might consider would be the Behemoth’s Grave and the Score Track Counters. This is low on my priority list, but never say never. : )

    27. Mark Swanson 2-time creator on

@Tschäibi: Meeple Realty is working on an Insert that would accommodate up to 9 vessels and 9 castles. It would be modular so that it would work WITH the original insert. I have not heard news from Meeple Realty about this yet, but I do have word into them. The 20% larger playmat board is not intended to fit into the box, although It might be folded so that it could. I will test this.

    28. Mark Swanson 2-time creator on

@Amilcar Piedade: I’ve been toying with the idea of setting up the pledge manager to default to painted, but allowing the few who want them unpainted to intentionally select that. Not sure about this yet.

    29. Mark Swanson 2-time creator on

@Kana 2: The original SGs include:
      - 1 Royal Starting Player Marker
      - 11 Foil Royal Writ Cards
      - 1 Embroidered Haversack
      - 9 Foil-Stamped Wooden Vessels
      - 1 Gilded Progress Die

The Meeple Realty Insert (update) will likely only fit 1x Rudders & Ramparts, not all minis of 3x R&R, right?
And will it have a way to store the playmat, or will the mat due to width never fit in the box?

    36. Missing avatar

      Amilcar Piedade on

Any chance of having unpainted versions, for those who'd prefer to paint their own?

    37. Missing avatar

      Kana2 on

@Mark: You talked about "reprint" the original SGs, does it mean that it does'nt include the following stuffs: Royal Starting Player Marker (made of resin), Embroidered Haversack, Foil-Stamped Wooden Vessels (9 of them), Gilded Progress Die (1 wooden die) ?

    38. Missing avatar

      Kana2 on

      @Mark: Thanks

    39. Mark Swanson 2-time creator on

@Eira Følling: My shipping company tries to negotiate the most completive rates. I do see that Norway/Switzerland is quite a bit higher than other countries. I will inquire with Quartermaster Logistics about this!

    40. Mark Swanson 2-time creator on

@Russell P. Smith: The vessels will be hand-painted so some natural variation will occur to make each vessel distinct! That said, painters will follow a prototype paint scheme. This helps to keep costs low! I have priced these as low as possible! I could price them lower by simplifying the paint scheme, but I have tried to strike a balance between price and excellence, always leaning a bit in favor of excellence.

    41. Mark Swanson 2-time creator on

@Maciej: I thought a lot about the best way to track guild status. Instead of creating punchboard trackers (fan made versions available on board game geek), I am partial to creating custom Feudum Guild tracking Dice. I will reveal these soon. : )

    42. Mark Swanson 2-time creator on

@Kana2: My supply of original Feudum Campaign stretch goals has dwindled because of International interest through localization partners. I will likely reprint the quantity that has been offset by that demand to satisfy domestic demand.

    43. Mark Swanson 2-time creator on

@Matt Stevens: I think the interest in a 3-set bundle will represent a minority of backers. I could be wrong about this, but the original intent was to simply offer one nice set of vessels to add just the right amount of aesthetic and functional game play value to the game (verses upgrading all vessels). A parallel to this thinking occurred with the resin windmill included with Windmills & Catapults. There are multiple windmill tiles in that expansion, but only one windmill.

    44. Eira Følling on

Shipping to Norway is more than twice as much as the rest of Europe.

That makes me not want to back a game I'm otherwise interested in.

@Mark Swanson, what's the current plan as far coloration of the 3 sets of vessels - will they be identical colors or all differentiated in some way? (Thanks)

      Maciej on

      Hello Mark,

I was looking on game-play of Feudum made by JonGetsGames and notice one thing which could speed up game a bit. Jon use dices to set current level of influence points in each guild which is great idea. But maybe instead of using dices some guild/player track could be good idea. Maybe you will add it as KS goal?

The game is awesome and I can't wait to get it. Extension is really nice but price for 3x Rudders and Ramparts is a bit high comparing to Feudum itself.

      Thanks!

    47. Missing avatar

      Kana2 on

@Mark Yes, to me it helps thanks.

Also, I am really interested on having Original Feudum Campaign Stretch Goals. Will there be enough copies for everyone?

    48. Matt Stevens on

I love Feudum. It has become one of my top games of all time. I love buying beautiful components to make enhance my gaming experience (e.g. I spent $200 on metal mechs for Scythe). I think these beautiful vessels will breathe even more life into an already whimsical game. I know that "you only need one set to use the expansion" but I'm sure Mark knew that a great majority of backers would want a complete set. Here is why I wonder "why was there no plan in place for a single box that could fit three full sets?" Less waste, less shipping cost and less production cost would (hopefully) mean bigger savings for Feudum's most fervent fans. I really hope a reasonable solution can be found before it's too late. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the stretch goals Mark has planned will bring enough value to the "x3 Bundle" to make it worth it. I eagerly await to see where it all leads.

    49. Mark Swanson 2-time creator on

@One_who_feeds. I agree with you on the expansion boxes being too large. The Rudders & Ramparts box will be better proportioned relative to the contents.

    50. one_who_feeds on

So in the end, 18 pieces will cost more than Feudum Big Box components from first campaign, eh. Seals and Sirens, Windmill and Catapults and Queen’s Army boxes were mostly air (felt empty, really) which also had few dissapointed posts on BGG about it. So I thought Rudders and Ramparts will have same story and enough space to actually put there something.

About

By Jove!  A splendid array of vessels has just arrived at port!  You and a host of wealthy nobles have assembled to ogle these kingly keels in hopes of procuring one. Will you return gloriously aboard your sturdy sloop, stealthy submersible or ethereal airshipor save your shillings to reinforce your ramparts?

Feudum: Rudders & Ramparts is a clever expansion to the award-winning game Feudum featuring artisan-edition vessels and castles!  Exquisitely crafted by Justin Schultz, Bruce Monson and Scott Ryan, these deluxe components may be used to play a military variant of the game—or enjoyed solely for their beauty.

How to Play this Expansion

Feudum: Rudders & Ramparts features deluxe vessels and castles that give players a combat advantage during the game. Upon acquiring a regular vessel or feudum, players may pay an additional shilling to upgrade to a deluxe vessel or castle feudum.  Players earn  +1 attack for a deluxe vessel and +1 defense for a castle feudum. At the dawn of each epoch, players must pay 1 shilling to maintain each castle or deluxe vessel in their possession—or lose their advantage!

These minor rule additions add a boatload of interesting choices! Players with castles forego the need to reinforce their feudums with subjects because a gold-clad "royal guard" accompanies each castle! Conversely, deluxe vessels make targets of any opponent in a nearby port.  But beware! The expensive upkeep may slowly impoverish a player.

How to Play the Base Game

Justin Schultz, Artist

As he likes to put it, Justin Schultz is an "earthling living in Jackson, Mississippi." Justin studied graphic design at Mississippi State University and worked for a number of advertising agencies before focusing on concert posters, album covers, package design and, just recently, board game art! His distinctive style of populating his art with monsters, reptiles and robots conjures up memories of children's picture books, albeit slightly skewed. Justin explains that he likes to lure viewers in with "superficially charming images," but then reveal something more "heartbreaking" or "daunting" upon closer inspection.  In 2010, Justin started his independent studio, The Flying Chair.

Mark Swanson, Game Designer

Professor by day and game designer by night, Mark Swanson lives in Columbia, Missouri with his three splendid daughters. Mark was was Inspired by Eurostyle games in the late 90s and became a fan of legends like Reiner Knizia, Klaus Teuber, Martin Wallace and Andreas Seyfarth. He unveiled his prototype of Feudum at GenCon 2014 and was thrilled to meet and gain insight from folks like Eric Lang, Mike Eliott, Bruno Faidutti and Jamey Stegmaier. Mark is grateful for Feudum's wonderful reception back in November of 2016 and thrilled by its ever growing community. Check out facebook.com/feudum  or BoardGameGeek to learn more.

Bruce Monson, Miniatures Painter/Artist

With a PhD in Refusingtogrowupology, he is a firefighter-paramedic for the City of Colorado Springs, Colorado where he lives with his Hawaiian-native wife and two daughters.  A passionate gamer, beer snob and chef, his dream retirement job is owning a gamers haven taproom and gourmet taco pavilion on the North Shore in Hawaii (dream big, you never know!). His favorite game designers are Lady Caissa and Mac Gerdts... oh, and Mark Swanson! A freelance writer, chess historian and USCF national master, he has written two books on chess and writes historical articles for the Dutch magazine, New in Chess.  Designing games and painting miniatures has been his passion since childhood, looooong before there was an App for That (he played “pong” on Atari when it was new!).  But in recent years miniature painting has become something more than pigment and layers; it's a Zen-like exercise in mental relaxation . . . with a beer of course!

Scott Ryan, 3D Sculptor

A former physics major and backwoods hick from South Arkansas, Scott moved to the big city of San Diego to pursue a career in computer graphics (specifically 3d modeling) because it sounded like a lot more fun than Quantum Mechanics. Now he teaches 3d courses at a small digital arts school and sells 3d printable assets online including Jewelry, dice, chess pieces, sculptures, or model railroad sets—he’s made and sold a little bit of everything. He grew up playing board games and occasionally even dreamed of making his own, but never could come up with any good ideas for them. The chance to help with Rudders & Ramparts was a pretty exciting prospect right from the start.

Odd Bird Games is partnered with Quartermaster Logistics to get you your rewards! They are powered by CoolStuffInc.com, a business that has been shipping games for more than 15 years to customers around the world. Quartermaster Logistics will ensure your packages arrive safe and on time as every game is professionally packed and protected.

How it Works

A short time after the campaign is over, you will receive an email from Backerkit that directs you to a pledge manager where you can confirm or upgrade your pledge, and add base games, expansions or other “add-ons.” (PayPal accepted).

Your Shipping will be automatically calculated at that time based on the total weight of your order. (Backerkit has automated this, so it is a lot easier now!) Backerkit turns overpledges into a credit that may be used as you see fit in the pledge manager.

Shipping Estimates

The rates below are 2019 estimates of carrier rates (FedEx, UPS) plus freight. QM Logistics will be shipping from their international fulfillment centers local to backers so that backers avoid VAT.

Add-Ons

Lighter-weight add-ons (everything except additional games or expansions) will not likely incur additional shipping costs. Space permitting, orders will be included in one box to reduce overall shipping costs. These rates are based on current carrier rates (FedEx, UPS) and may fluctuate.

Rest of the World Fulfillment

QM logistics is dedicated to finding the most cost-effective delivery solution for backers around the world, therefore, the “Rest of World” rate is merely an averaged estimate. When possible, QM Logistics will use the fulfillment centers that are closest to backers in order to save them money. (For example, fulfilling from China, for East Asia, or fulfilling others from the EU shipping.) Be forewarned, it may be difficult to economically ship to some places in the world, but we will do our best.

Risks and challenges

With two successful Kickstarter campaign under our belts, the rough waters of fulfillment houses, freight shippers, manufacturers and backer relations....have turned to calmer seas!

Of course, we don't take full credit for navigating this ship! We continue to receive generous support from seasoned game designers and key partners in the game industry. We consider them "shipmates."

Our reliable shipmates from the Spieleschmiede endeavor to offer Rudders & Ramparts in Germany provided they reach their crowdfunding goal. The localization team at Spieleschmiede specializes in German-edition translations and are committed to the highest standards.

Meanwhile, Backerkit will continue to facilitate backer orders with a new and improved system; OTX will ensure that freight shipping goes off without a hitch; and QM Logisitcs will permit our games to ship from within backers' countries of origin. These partnerships will always be marked by transparency and free-flowing communication!

Not too long ago, Odd Bird Games was a methane gas-sniffing canary trapped deep within the bowels of a coal mine. But, by good fortune, we escaped up the shaft towards the light. And now, we are fiercely fluttering toward the heavens.
