I have written a classical music piece, entitled "Pocket Mass" which is a 17-minute work for chorus and light instrumentation, but most of which is a cappella. I drafted the mass myself by singing it into Garageband and now have it in score format as well. I have singers here in L.A. interested in working on this with me -- I would need to take everyone into a studio to do a multitrack recording of the piece, so that we can make 8 singers sound like a full chorus of 24 singers. We would be recording 17 minutes of music consisting of 6 movements: Kyrie; Gloria; Credo; Sanctus; Agnus Dei; and a last movement entitled "The Mass Is Ended." I am hoping to hire one cellist and one double bassist if funding permits -- otherwise, those tracks will be recorded in MIDI.
My rough estimate is that recording the work would take about 24 hours including approximately 6-8 hours for mixing and mastering. The mass will be part of a complete 35-minute CD entitled "Pocket Mass" the remainder of which will be other spiritual works recorded solo and funded by me. I hope to release the complete CD through my record company, Wobba Wobba Music, sometime in Spring, 2012.
If the Kickstarter funding is successful, I plan to use the money to record the mass and pay the singers, engineer and studio. If there is any left over after recording, that cash will go towards defraying costs to vendors for the reward t-shirts and CDs.
