About this project

 

In Head Chef, players collect ingredients to cook tasty food ... SO TASTY that cooking this food will make you famous!

Once you gain enough fame you can upgrade your humble little food truck to a trendy cafe. Keep that kitchen burning and the Mayor will surely recognise you for your popularity, allowing you to be chosen as the Head Chef of the towns gourmet restaurant.

In addition to cooking food, your character has their own unique ability for you to master. Each player will also have the same set of power cards that can be used to either disrupt other players, or give yourself a much needed boost. Make sure you choose carefully when to use them, as they can only be used once.

The first player to be famous enough to reach the restaurant will be crowned the Head Chef!

 

 

Head Chef uses a broad range of game mechanics to keep things interesting:

  • While picking up Ingredients off the deck you will be forming sets to use when making food (Set Collection).
  • Carrying too many of these ingredients will overstock your fridge and you will have to discard some that can be snapped up by other players, choosing which ones can sometimes be a tricky situation (Hand Management)
  • As you progress through the game you will have to decide when the set collecting stops, and when the cooking begins, but don't spend too long trying to fish out that last ingredient, you may not be so lucky (Push your luck).
  • If things are just not going your way all hope is not lost, dig deep into your power cards to help even the score with the other players (Take That) ... because in Head Chef you're not out until its over !

Philosophy 
Head Chef was built on the philosophy that each turn should be meaningful and progress you in the game. Not only does this help to keep the game from overextending it's play time, but it also ensures each player will not be spending idle turns watching everyone else make cool moves.

Classification
I would classify Head Chef as a filler game as it's not a brain buster or an overly long game, but a fun, card driven, food fuelled race to the end.

Replayability
Each play through is kept fresh through the number of different characters you can be. These characters abilities will change the way you think about playing the game from start to finish. 

Play strategically or for fun!
The game can be as silly, or serious as you make it. On the surface it's a simple pick up and play card game, but if you get thinking about pacing, power card opportunities, odds and how your opponents act socially you may be able to ensure you have the edge. There are also a few really good ways to combo certain cards and character abilities in the game. All of this means it is a fun game for adults while still being easy enough for the kids (tested on kids as young as 10).

 Single Player Mode

Head Chef also has a fast single player mode that will have you racing the ingredients deck to progress through the scoring track. Of course its not as easy as it sounds as you will also be at the mercy of a pre-built power deck with modified rules that can help a little, but also aims to stop you in your tracks. Don't get too greedy when playing food, but don't waste the ingredients deck on the low scoring food!

Head Chef has been play tested by many avid gamers of the public, but also heavily scrutinized and beat down by other crafty game designers. As they looked for holes, boring scenarios and the creative possibilities, they provided more than just a play test but a quality assurance session. Many different iterations and game play styles were pondered tested and re-tested to make Head Chef the fun lovable game it has become ! 

Head Chef is being directly shipped by airmail from China. Due to this we are able to ship our game more efficiently on a global scale. For EU and CA backers we have included the Set Menu pledge, this option is directed at backers in Europe and Canada so there will be no additional costs.

 

 

 

 

 

Risks and challenges

- The artwork is complete with only little touches and minor improvements that we would like to make to the production design for release.

- Any issues due to holidays, workloads or production problems will be made public as soon as possible.

- This is our first Kickstarter project in the tabletop arena, we have read many popular articles about how to run a campaign, but like anything some unexpected scenarios may appear. Once again these will be worked though as best and hastily as they can and will be clearly communicated should any arise.
