I'm Jason Lyle Black. I'm a full-time songwriter, pianist, and comedic entertainer. I've been blessed to make my living as a full-time performing musician.
My dream as an artist is to share my music with people all over the world on tour - to leave a mark on people individually and on their communities.
This project, this Disney record, is my effort to do that - to expand my fanbase dramatically by creating a record of songs that can touch people all throughout the world, and to tell those songs in a new way. I'm so grateful for you being part of it!
I started playing piano 23 years ago, at age 8. When I was 15, my passion for music really exploded. I started writing music regularly and learning to record my own music. I put out my first CD in 2004, called Flood of Keys. It was 12 songs of original music.
Over the next ten years, I put out three more albums, and began performing as a comedic pianist. By 2016, I was able to quit my day job and pursue music full-time, and have since performed as far as Tokyo, Japan, and even off the coast of Africa!
While I am blessed to make a living as a performing artist, I want to reach more people with my music. My mission is really to be a global touring artist and use that brand to put a smile on people's faces all over the world.
This new record is my effort to move my career to that next level, to help expand my fanbase globally so that I can introduce my music to tens of thousands of new fans across the world.
This is a full-length album of Disney classics, of my own arrangement. The songs are inspired by Disney arrangements I previously did for Hal Leonard, the world's largest sheet music publisher. Here's a picture of that book:
This album is a fully orchestrated recording of some of my favorite arrangements from that book. It is a cross-genre album; it includes jazz, dixieland, pop, latin, and classical styles. There's no Disney album like it, with this blend of genres and styles.
YOUR SUPPORT / FUNDING / TIMELINE
Here's the kicker. I don't have a record label for this release. It is being done completely independently. I worked with Hal Leonard on the Disney arrangements book, but Hal Leonard doesn't put out albums. This is just me.
So your support makes the record possible, both the production and the release. The following is the breakdown of how we will use the funds.
Now you may notice that we have set the Kickstarter minimum at just $7,500. That's because I already pledged all $7,500 of my savings to the producer four months ago to start working on the record, because I was determined that this music would be produced.
I am asking for your help now so that we can finish the record, covering not only our production costs above, but also bringing on a publicist to help this album reach tens of thousands of new fans worldwide.
THANKS / ALBUM PREVIEW
I want to personally thank you for supporting this project. It means the world to me - I live for the connection that my music makes with fans. That's what brings joy to me personally, and is why I do what I do.
You can hear a preview of many of the songs in my Kickstarter video! Included are Friend Like Me, Bare Necessities, Chim Chim Cher-ee, Beauty and the Beast, and Part of Your World. Enjoy!
Risks and challenges
Risks and challenges for this project are low, considering that the album has already been recorded and mixed in the studio. The main issue at this point is getting the funding for the mastering, manufacturing, and release of the record, as outlined above.
We will of course keep you informed if there are any unexpected delays in manufacturing or shipment. We have accounted for extra time already in the project's timeline.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
