Glimpse Wearables is new to the consumer electronics industry but our team has spent over a year researching, networking, and reducing risk.
We understand the problems that could cause delays and have outlined them below. Our delivery estimates have considered a buffer for any risk but we cannot predict the future. Especially with hardware projects, backers need to understand that even the smallest of hiccups can delay delivery. Here are some of the most common risks associated with delivery of our product and how we are working to reduce the risks.
1. Tooling: Tooling is the procedure of making molds that will be used by manufacturers to build the product. Tooling will be used to create the device shell and the silicon skin. The device shell was designed with room for error and ample space to make it durable and house components. The real risk comes with the silicon skins as it needs to be exact. Luckily it is a low cost material so any errors can be fixed without to much damage to our budget.
2. Supply chain: Risks associated with supply chain would be if our PCB (Bluetooth chip) manufacturer was missing components and could not assemble the final product to keep up with our delivery estimates. We have designed our chip to be very close to standard Bluetooth so there will be as little unique changes as possible. This makes it easier for our manufacturer to fix any errors and mass produce our electronic components.
3. Certifications and Regulations: Electronics require various tests done by the FCC ensure safety and test for design flaws. We have taken into account this process into our timeline. Again, because we are using standard Bluetooth modules, much of the preliminary certifications have already been covered.
Start-ups face many challenges and risks. The Glimpse team has worked incredibly hard to reduce risk not just for consumers but for our business. By reducing risk we can use more money to innovate and create new, exciting products. This has been a learning experience and we hope to learn even more through our kickstarter journey.
